24 December 2018 Another massive result for the Phoenix this weekend, beating the Roar 4 - 1. Sarpreet Singh turned on a terrific second half and became a star. Alex Rufer another stand out. Tough test this Friday night away to Melbourne Victory. Can we win four in a row?
9 December Sad news, that Juan Propato is leaving in early January, off to a new football job in Western Australia. Juan has organised the junior football and coaching in the EBOP the last few years and played for Rangers this season.
In better news, the Phoenix have had two excellent weeks in a row, last week only drawing with league leaders Perth because the VAR wrongly decided our defender should be sent off, and last night beating Sydney away from home 3 - 1. Make sure you take any chances to get a a Nix game live, or at least watch them on TV.
Check out our Nix pages.
1 December Great news: Xavier Bain has been selected in the WaiBop 16th grade team to play in the national tournament from 12 to 16 December. Xavier showed some outstanding skills when playing for Rangers in his debut year this season. He ws our Young Player of the Year. Despite only playing about half of our games, he was only one goal off being our golden boot too! All the best for the tournament Xavier!
The Phoenix have had a difficult last few weeks. Hopefully they start to get improved results, starting tomorrow!
Congratulations to the NZ Young Football Ferns, through to the 3rd place play off in the FIFA World Under 17 Cup. NZ's best ever placing in the FIFA World Cup.
28 October The Nix have got off to a good start this season. A win then an away draw. A trip to watch them play is well worth the effort. Keep an eye on our Nix pages.
Good to see many Rangers players playing summer football.
14 October Rangers prize giving night went very well. Big ups to the girls (Macca and Jenny etc) who set the room up in theme. The lounge doors became saloon doors, there was a set of stocks, Wanted poster photo frame, cactuses, a teepee. It was great. Hamilton Wanderers have been kicked out of the Federation premiership because of defaulting three times. Their results and points are being removed from the table. Taupo won the league.
23 September Keep Saturday 13 October free. It is Plains Rangers prize giving and break up night, 7pm at the Events Centre. More details to come.
16 September Rangers came back with a good second half to draw 1 - 1. Chances not put away, but a good effort in a flowing competitive game. Petir excellent again, player of the day. Xavier scored with a power drive. Here's the report. Rangers were confirmed in second place in section B of the split league when Otumoetai lost to TCU yesterday.
Rangers women played in the Pullar Cup tournament.
8 September Pretty unlucky at home to Otumoetai. Strong swirly wind made things difficult in the first half. An unfortunate penalty and a misjudgement saw the visitors out 2 - 0. Quick thinking from Petir Gray set up a goal for Xavier Bain. Kirk's shot was blocked on the line by a defender's elbow, no penalty. 2 - 1 loss in the end. Ronan player of the day. Here's the report
Events Centre AGM Monday at 7pm, the more Rangers people there the better.
1 September. Bowl Final. Rangers struggled to get our game going against a good Tauranga City Relics team. Wetts made several saves to keep them out in the first half. An early error in the second half saw TCU score and they controlled the game after that. Highlight of the day was the Rangers women's team turning up in cheerleading costumes and making the sideline very colourful! Wetts even named them player of the day! Check out the photos on Photo of the Week. The report.
We stayed on to watch the Cup Final. Whakatane took the lead against Otumoetai and looked to be cruising, especially after the Ot's captain was sent off for a second yellow. However, Ots scored and then won a penalty to take the win 2 - 1! Whakatane lost a player late in the game which had deteriorated with some petulant actions happening.
27 August Rangers men grabbed a gritty 1 - 0 win away at Tauranga City. Read Chris's write-up of the game. Hamish player of the day, Wetts the scorer.
19 August Rangers women finished their season with a win! Many thanks to the muddy extra defender! Shayna and Rachel players of the day. Here's the report. Check out the team photo.
18 August Rangers got out to a good 2 - 0 lead then blew it at Rotorua, having to come back to draw 4 - 4. The game was dedicated to Sione and wishing him well for his treatment. Jords two goals and player of the day. The report.
15 August The new men's split draw is out. First up Rotorua Bay Two, away.
12 August Rangers women finally played Ngongotaha, losing 3 - 0. Here is Ranee's report:
Ngongotaha 3-Us 0
Well the sun was shining and we finally get to play Ngongotaha.
It took us a while to settle down in the first half and when we finally did we were playing some good soccer. We just need to connect our passes a bit better. We had a better second half and we had a lot of time in their half with the ball. We managed to get some shots on goal, some a bit wide, others a bit short. When our passes work they looked great. Some good running by all. Rachel you had a good game: don't know if you were trying to run through players or just bulldozer them over!! Cassidy you had a great game up front today, you made some great passes to our team members. Shayna you had a great game on the wing. You did some good crosses and some good chase and follows and, if I remember right, you had a couple of shots on goal. Player of the day goes to Jenny. You had an awesome game on the wing, you got their throw in that they gave away to us, good intercepting of the ball, shame about your superman throw in!
See all you lovely ladies at training Wednesday night. Can we all make an effort to make it to training ladies?! We are playing this weekend coming.
News that Paul Stewart has left WaiBop and competitions are temporarily being managed by CEO Karyn Walters.
The Plains Rangers Fantasy league is off and running, with Chris Butler the early leader. It's fun, if you want to join see News item on August 3.

7 August The men's Bay One will be split into three groups of five, starting on August 18th. Postponements and availability of grounds helped make the decision, along with a majority vote from the clubs.
The Wellington Phoenix are on TV tonight, playing an FFA Cup game against Bentleigh Green (a premier club from Melbourne). It's still pre-season by quite a long way for the Phoenix, but a chance to see some of their new signings in action. Kick off at 9.30pm. It's on Sky TV.

4 August A very wet pitch, a Rangers win 2 - 1, Ryan and Jords score, Bazza player of the day! Here's the report. Rangers did well to drain about 400L of water off the pitch so the game could go ahead, but with steady rain continuing to fall, the women's game tomorrow looks in doubt. The pitch will be inspected in the morning.
3 August Want to join the Fantasy League this year? Try and beat Muggsy, who has won the last two years? Good fun, free, Click here to go to the website (opens in new tab), create a team, then join the league Plains Rangers.

Oi Oi Rangers!!
29 July A wind affected game at Otumoetai yestersday, where Rangers men had to come from behind twice. Jaiden and Oggie scored. Husnul player of the day. Here's the report.
27 July Sadly Rangers women have to default their game against Te Puke this Sunday, due to lack of available numbers. No such trouble for Rangers men, with 17 available to travel to Otumoetai tomorrow, those who survived a solid training session on Thursday night! Rangers decided to vote for option 1 in the league split feedback (see below).
25 July A lot of talk about the split in Bay One at the end of this round. The Federation is now asking coaches for feedback on two proposals. Feedback has to be in by Monday.
Option 1:
After the final game of the round on the 11th August the league gets split into 2 groups ( Top 8 / Bottom 7 ). Team will play 1 full round (7 weeks). The round would start on the 18th August and conclude on the 29th September. Teams that have made the Cup and Bowl Final will need to organise a midweek catchup game before the 29th September.
Option 2:
After the final game of the round on the 11th August the league gets split into 3 groups ( Top 5 / Middle 5 / Bottom 5 ). Team will play 1 full round (5 weeks). The round would start on the 18th August and conclude on the 15th September. Any catch up games (eg teams that have made the Cup and Bowl Final) will be played on the 22nd September.
24 July Kawerau have defaulted the catch up game to us. Moving up the table!
23 July Rangers scraped through to the Bay Bowl final with an extra time thriller against Papamoa. Wetts player of the day, outstanding! Chris scored the goal, with a little help from the defender! The report. Bay Bowl final is 1st September at Links Ave, kick off at 11.30am!!! The Cup final follows at 2.30pm.
15 July A couple of interesting results from yesterday. Tauranga City Bay Two Relics lost to Taupo, maybe Rangers had softened up Relics last week! Whakatane walloped another Bay Two team 17 - 1, calling into question: why on earth did the Federation decide to combine the two leagues??
Rangers women put in a good effort today, but conceded three goals in each half to lose 6 - 0 to Tauranga City. The rain got steadier and steadier as the game went on.
Goalkeeper Joe Ingle player of the day. Others to impress were Macca, who made a difference in the midfield when she came on, Gemma Stuckey who worked hard up front and Cassidy Spillman who played in the unaccustomed position of left back, but went on some great runs up the wing.
13 July Rangers put in a good performance last night under lights at Whakatane. Two fine goals from Xavier Bain had Rangers leading 2 - 0 at half time. Jaiden Ibbetson scored twice after the break to earn a 4 - 0 win. Here's the report. Thanks to George Dalgity for arranging the game. Rangers also collected the Sponsors' Trophy to take home, until the next time the two clubs meet.
The draw is out for the Wellington Phoenix's new season. October 21 start, but soon in the FFA Cup the Nix will be on Sky TV
against a state league team Bentleigh Greens, Tues 7 August at 9.30pm on a pop up channel.
10 July

Good signing!
8 July The match report from yesterday. World Cup, now down to four: France v Belgium, England v Croatia.
7 July Rangers women won tomorrow's game against Ngongy by default, sadly. Rangers men had a well fought game with table topping Tauranga City Relics, a 0 - 0 draw. Kirk and Xavier shared player of the day.Wetts excellent in goal as well. Report to come. Lots of World Cup talk with Brazil eliminated by Belgium this morning and England playing Sweden in another quarterfinal tomorrow morning.
Our Juan is in Russia, he has been to three Argentina games and is there enjoying the atmosphere until the final. Sadly no South American teams are left in it. Check out Juan's You Tube video from Russia!
1 July Rangers women had their game cut short by a nasty injury, a broken ankle suffered by one of their Otumoetai opponents. Otumoetai were leading 3 - 0 at that stage. Ranee's report:
Otumoetai 3 - Us 0
Well I'll try and sum the game up with only 36 minutes of game time we had.
Well Emma you only had 4 minutes to go before your sub like you asked for.
Both Gemma and Rachel landed on their bums today.
Amber ran too fast for the ball to find her.
Joe was 2 inches too short to stop the ball.
Laura found herself in the mids and had a good game there (and yelled too loud for Rachel).
Rhylee lost the line but did some good defending.
Laura (Po) wanted to be sick.
Jenny liked saying "Who's got number 11?"
Shayna was keeping the bench company and warm.
Ranee was coughing up her lungs but did get to do a couple of good runs with the ball.
Caitlin was doing some good chase and runs and follow ups.
Mikaela couldn't find her top on the side line and came with a unicorn on her face.
So that mostly sums the game all up. However we were having a good game holding them off well and had some good runs down the field, we just need to hold the middle of the field a bit better. We were doing really well ladies.
Hope the Otumoetai player is doing better and is on some good pain killers!
There was no player of the day today.
30 June Kawerau pulled off a great result today in the Fed league, beating unbeaten Ngaruawahia away 5 - 4. Rangers' opponents next week, TCU Bay Two had a good day too, beating Otumoetai away, so they will be a stern test for Rangers next week. Good luck to Rangers player Juan, who is over in Russia watching his beloved Argentina play France tonight in the knock out round. Buena suerte Argentina!
26 June. A change in the men's draw sees Rangers having a game next Saturday (7th July) at home against the strong Tauranga City Bay Two team. Should be a good challenge.

Ryan and Hamish the scorers. Jimmy player of the day. Here's the report. A couple of shock results, with Rotorua doing the double over Tauranga City.
10 June A solid loss for Rangers women at Tauranga City today. Player of the day Gemma Stuckey got taken out by the keeper, resulting in a penalty and a yellow card.
Ranee's report:
Tga 13- Us 0
Well it was a hard day at the office for us today but we kept on playing and we kept the shits and giggles happening. Well done to Amber for a wicked game on the wing you did some great work with the ball, Laura another cracker game in the backs, even the run you did up the middle of the field looked good. Macca had a good game running round like a rabbit but you need to kick right next time for the penalty shot. Rachel you played hard up the front. P.O.D went to Gemma who got taken out into the post came back on and played her heart out. Well done chick. Catch ya all on Wednesday for training - sprints, fingers out!
9 June Rangers were slow out of the blocks, but eventually put together a good 4 - 0 win against Rotorua, passing the ball around sweetly at time. Husnul player of the day. Here's the report.

Well done to Papamoa who managed to knock out the classy Bay Olympic team from the Chatham Cup today. Papamoa are now giant killers!
2 June Plains Rangers weren't playing today, but wait, what is this? A Plains Rangers hoodie on the bench for Kawerau! Jamaal wears it while he waits for game time, wears it while he warms up, but takes it off as he goes on the field. Twenty minutes of good game time. Jamaal does the hoodie proud. Kawerau 4 Te Puke 0.
On our BOP results and tables page it now has the combined Bay One and two table. Rather strange, but still...
Will Rangers be able to work their way up to get into the Bay One split whenever that happens?

Welcome back to DB Plumbing as a sponsor again this season! Thanks David and Trina!
26 May Rangers men lost to Whakatane 2 - 0 today. Juan and Matt lost their hamstrings! Carl player of the day. Here's the report. In a curious coincidence, the other two home teams in Bay One (whose scores are in) also failed to score and lost!
20 May Rangers women put in a very good battling display against Otumoetai and were unlucky to go down 2 - 0. Player of the day Jenny. Here's the report.

15 May News out from WaiBOP... BIG changes to the leagues coming up...
Women first: Changes to Women's Competition Structures, 2018
WaiBOP Football will be introducing the Loaded WaiBOP Women's Premiership for the second half of the 2018 season. The 6 team league will combine the top 3 teams from the Bay 1 Women's competition with the top 3 teams from the Waikato Women's A competition at the end of first round of games (27th May). The Loaded WaiBOP Women's Premiership will kick off on the 10th June and run for 10 weeks in a home and away format. Points, goals scored, goals conceded, and goal difference will be reset to zero for the Loaded WaiBOP Women's Premiership.
This means there will be changes to the both the Bay 1 and Waikato A competitions.
Bay 1 Women's Competition
• Top 3 teams after the 27th May will be promoted to the Loaded WaiBOP Women's Premiership
• Bottom 5 teams will continue playing in a home and away format for the Bay 1 title.
• Expression of interest for a sixth team to enter the Bay 1 competition will be considered. The due date for expression of interest is 21st May 2018. With entry into the competition confirmed on 1st June.
• All points, goals scored, goals conceded, and goal difference will be kept.
Men next: Changes to Bay 1 & 2 Men's Competition, 2018
At the preseason meeting it was discussed if the Bay 1 and Bay 2 competition should be combined to create one league. At the time we had two 8 team competitions that would provided teams with 14 league games and a minimum of 2 Cup/Bowl games depending on how far a team went in the Bay Sports Centre Cup competition. Due to this WaiBOP made the decision to leave the competitions as they were.
During the week leading up to the start of the season one team withdrew from the Bay 2 Competition leaving it with 7 teams. This leaves the Bay 2 teams with only 12 games and a minimum of 2 Cup/Bowl games, which is not deemed acceptable.
To increase the number of games played in the season the following changes will be made.
1. The Bay 1 & Bay 2 competitions will be combined
2. Results for games from the first round robin in the respective competitions will stand
3. Bay 2 teams will play Bay 1 teams in the second round robin of the competition
4. After the second round robin teams will be split in to a top / bottom to determine the Bay 1 and Bay 2 winners
5. The player movement rule will be amended to allow two players to move between teams. This is only to be done to avoid a default.
6. Round Robin 2 will start on the 9th June.
13 May A disappointing performance at Otumoetai saw Rangers men go down 3 - 0 in the end. Captain Jimmy Hart player of the day. Ali's header brought out a good save from Wetts! Read the report. Rangers women's game today postponed. Ngongy would have been under water again.
10 May the draw for the Bay Sports Centre Cup is out. Rangers have Otumoetai on 19th May. Check out the draw on our BOP draw page. A good training tonight, thanks Jaiden! Good attitude everyone!
6 May Rangers women put up a good battle against a slick Whakatane team today. However, 12 - 0 showed the strength of several of the Whakatane players. Caitlin Stuckey player of the day. The report.
Reports are that the Katikati player who collapsed on the sideline yesterday is ok. We certainly hope so. We also hope that the hamstring injury suffered by our Argentine defender Juan is fast healing.
5 May Rangers came from behind to win a tight game 2 - 1 against Katikati. Petir Gray scored a brilliant goal to get Rangers level before Wetts stepped out of goal to blast a penalty home. Ben Howe player of the day. Here's the report.
More good news: our two sponsors from last year are back on board... Welcome back DB Plumbing and SLH Contracting! Anyone else wanting to sponsor Plains Rangers contact Barrie.
The A League grand final is on tonight. Newcastle v Melbourne Victory. Should be a good watch.

Check out the three BOP teams remaining in the Cup on our BOP draw results page.
29 April Rangers Chatham Cup dreams are over after a 2 - 0 loss to HNK Auckland in a wind swept game. Keeper Wetts kept his team in it with a couple of smart saves early on. Nil all at half time and Rangers were playing well, but an early second half goal and a late penalty meant the Croatian team advanced to the next round. Here's the report. Here are photos of the game. The day went in fine spirits fom both teams, with HNK offering to host us in Auckland in return.
Rangers women's game today was called off with a lot of surface water on the pitch.

22 April Rangers women had the expected difficult day away to the Tauranga Federation team. Here's Ranee's report:
Tauranga Feds 17 - Us 0
Well ladies we definitely played a different game today compared to last weeks game.
During parts of the game we did manage to put together some great passing. We did some good cleaning in parts of game as well.
The game looked a bit untidy at times and a bit flat as well however we did have one thing going for us and that was the penalty kicks we got.
Welcome back Cassidy.
Jenny McIntyre had another good game on the wing until she lost her contact lenses.
Player of the day goes to our centre Laura Powick. You had a cracker of a game and you gave everything you had out there.
See you all at training Wednesday night.
21 April Rangers men had a gripping physical game against Tauranga City. It had almost everything - great goals, a smashed corner flag, cards to entertain the good sized crowd. The visitors got there 3 - 2 with stand in keeper Jordan Ogilvy player of the day. Here's the report.
20 April A very healthy number 23 men registered to play this year. Almost two teams there! Rangers' strong family ties are again to the fore this year. Great to see two grandchildren of late life member Margaret Elliot playing - welcome Ryan and Rachel. Also great to welcome back Kirk Bain and son Xavier. All four are already making an impact. Oi Oi Rangers!

Ranee's report from yesterday: Tauranga 3 - Rangers women 0.
Well ladies another great game today played by all. We held them off well in the first half with coming away nil all at half time, with great passes happening and some close calls at their goal mouth with lots of fighting. In the second half we lost ourselves for a bit but we kept on fighting for the ball and position. Tauranga come in strong in the second half and came away with 3 goals, but we kept up the chase till the end and never gave in to them.
We had some good play from Emma Bradnock today you never gave up in the back line. Amber McKenzie you a fabulous game up front, you got lots of run on the ball and got some shots in too. Jenny McIntyre you also had a good game on the ball and put a few of their players in their place. Player of the day went to Radhika Arulambalam. You had an almighty game in goal, one of your best games yet. Some spectacular saves in goal too.
15 April Rangers set the example for the Wellington Phoenix. Go behind then win 2 - 1! Left back Kirk Bain was player of the day. Rangers played very good football at Taupo and deserved their win. Taupo scored first with a good header. Sub Ronan Mitchell came on with 30 to go and his shot set up the own goal to get Rangers level. The keeper parried Jaiden Ibbetson's powerful shot, but Andy Willis was on hand to put it away. Keeper Christian Wetting made a vital late save to tip a header over the bar and preserve the 2 - 1 score. Read the report.

At half time the score was 7 - 1. Rangers tightened things up in the second half. The final score was 13 - 1. Rhylee Mahy was named player of the day for her strong showing at right back.
Ranee's report: Papamoa 13-Us 1

Great work in goal today Joe and some awesome saves as well (great double save). Over all ladies what a great game to start the season off, with laughs and all too. Considering we played the new lay out for the first time today it showed how different we played as a team with lots of passing happening along the ground triangles where happening and everything we have been learning at training is paying off.
Big congratulations to Rhylee today what a game you had in the back line you stuck to your players you never gave up or backed down.
See you all at training on Wednesday.
7 April Rangers opened their Bay One campaign with a close 1 - 0 away loss to Rotorua United. Rangers started strongly, dominating the first 20 minutes. Petir went close with a header. Nil all at half time. An even second half until Rotorua, who had had a few chances, got lucky with a bouncing ball through the centre of Rangers defence, latched onto it and rolled the ball home. Xavier Bain was player of the day with a good showing in the midfield.
2 April The draws are out, but with some probable changes of times, since the Federation in their usual wisdom has scheduled 12.30pm kick offs for home games for many Bay One clubs. Lets hope the clubs ask for alterations, otherwise players involved in junior football in the mornings will have issues getting to games. The links on the left will take you to the draws.

26 March The Nix had a good game, drawing 2 - 2 with Brisbane despite missing five players for international duty.
On the down side, Rangers' training pitch badly messed up by cars on it during a wet Top School event.
The draws are out for the Federation Leagues. Click here for our version of them.
24 March Rangers men had a useful hit out against Papamoa today. Despite having 20 at training on Thursday, only 12 players were at Papamoa for kick off. The home team had heaps of subs to give a run to. In the first half keeper Wetts saved a penalty after being judged to have fouled their striker. Jordan finished off a decent moved with a calm finish past their keeper to put Rangers ahead. The team dropped off though in the last bit of the half to concede twice. Another goal to the home team early after the break made it look like a tough day, but Rangers played some improved football, with young Xavier Bain making a difference when he arrived. The final score was Papamoa 3, Rangers 1.
20 March Rangers had a good night at the Quiz Night. The Rangers women's team took out the best dressed award for their St Patrick's Day costumes. The $50 bar tab wouldn't go far among the eight of them though! Check out the photos of them on Photo of the Week! Meanwhile, Chris, Wetts and Bazza's team came 2nd out of the 30, just beaten by two point after leading at half time.
Club meeting after the men's training on Thursday.
Draft of team entries in leagues:
Men's Bay One: Kawerau Sports, Katikati, Otumoetai,Rotorua United, Whakatane Town, Tauranga City, Plains Rangers,Taupo Lakers, Kawerau Sports. (Though it is doubtful that Kawerau have two teams in this league, considering they also have a team in the Fed Championship!!)
Women's Bay One: Te Puke Utd, Papamoa, Otumoetai, Rotorua United, Tauranga City, Whakatane Town, Ngongotaha, Plains Rangers
17 March A good hit out today at Rotorua. The boys played well in their first preseason game. Petir Gray opened the scoring in the first third with a nice goal. The hosts replied with two, then Jaiden Ibbetson scored a beauty from outside the box that pinged off one upright and into the net on the other side of the goal. 2 - 2 at the end of that period. The second third was 0 - 0 and Rotorua scored two in the final third to take the win 4 - 2. The only injury concern was Muggsy's knee. Well done boys. Now for St Patrick's Quiz Night.
8 March Another good training tonight, well done everyone. Even the thunder and lightning didn't put us off. A request from Edgecumbe College... they are looking for coaches for their boys and girls teams. Please contact the sports coordinator Lisa Robertson LRT@edgecumbecollegeschoolnz.onmicrosoft.com if you are interested. Seems like lots of clubs are searching for coaches, even the Wellington Phoenix!
Coming up:
17 March preseason game away to Rotorua United, followed by the big Quiz Night at the Awakeri Events Centre. Please support your club by going to the quiz night (17th March)
24 March preseason game away to Papamoa.

13 November 2017 What a weekend of football. Massive result NZ All Whites 0 - 0 with Peru in front of record crowd. Stop work this Thursday for the return game, starting at 3pm. Then the Phoenix score a 5 - 2 win against Perth Glory, with some lovely goals. Krishna superb with three assists.
6 November This week is building up to the most important day in NZ football for a few years, the home game against Peru on Saturday in the intercontinental play off to see who goes to the World Cup next year. Who's going?
Rangers fantasy league is ticking along. Muggsy has made a late entry and has already shot up into the top few. Too many of Awakeri's 13th grade team are leading the comp though. Cmon Rangers, time to show them how much insight adult players have!
29 October A great prize giving night last night. The AGM happened with only a small number there. Newly elected: Christian Wetting president, Chris Butler Vice president, Margaret Nillesen sec/ Treas. Congrats to Hamiora from Kawerau in winning the BOP div one player of the year vote.
1 October An entertaining clash between Rangers men and Rotorua in the final game for the season. Rangers had 22 available players for the day!!! Five people got to go on the sub bench and 6 others didn't! Jordy scored and sewed up goldemn boot with a second half strike, after Petir didn't take his chances to do the same thing. Chris and Bazza shared player of the day for not playing (and doing other useful things!). Here's the report. Photos to come.
Note the date 28 October on your calendar for Plains Rangers AGM, Break Up and Prize Giving night.
24 September A good first half wasn't enough for Rangers as they let a 1 - 1 half time score slip in the space of 5 minutes to a 4 - 1 loss. Petir was the scorer, with Levi player of the day. Here's the report.
17 September Rangers men put in a good effort against table-leading Kawerau, but lost 6 - 0 in the end. Wetts was excellent in goal or it would have been double that, player of the day. Toby hit the bar with a good header and Jordan and Petir had chances. Read the report.
Now it is all on next Saturday, when Katikati come to visit. Can they beat Kawerau for the league title? They would have to beat Rangers 15 - 0 to win on goal difference!
14 September A great full on training tonight, getting ready for Kawerau on Saturday. Good to see 16 players there, with a couple of apologies. Good to be outside on our lovely pitch. Credits to Jimmy's free kicks, Pat's calm finishes, Jamaal's gutsy defending, Jordy's strikes and Husnul's determination.
Sadly our women's team have had to default their final game against Taupo, so their season is over. Good news that Michel is now back home.
9 September Rangers women had a good day at the Pullar Cup tournament. They won the first game against Ngongotaha, with Gemma Stuckey scoring, then winning a free kick which Mishka Barry scored from. Rangers did well in the second game in holding hosts Whakatane to 0 - 0 at half time, but lost in the end. Another loss to Papamoa, was fairly onesided, but keeper Radhika saved some strong shots well. In the play off for 3rd place Rangers met Ngongy again, but lost 1 - 0. Click here to see some photos of the last game.
Coach Michel Nillesen has been released from hospital and will be looking forward to heading home tomorrow.
Congratulations to Kawerau winning the Cup final 1 - 0 against Taupo.
Kati had a 17 - 0 win in their catch up game in Bay One!
7 September Yet again the Federation has messed around with our games. This Saturday's men's game at Kawerau is now postponed because the Cup final was postponed last week, and our remaining games shuffled around. Therefore no game this Saturday and no doubt Kawerau quiz night is also off because they play the cup final at the Rotorua International Stadium.
Our final three games are now (and will they change again!?):
16 Sept Kawerau away (2pm)
23 Sept Katikati at home
30 Sept Rotorua at home
5 September Good news that Michel is recovering well from his operation.
Jump on the WaiBOP web site and vote for our Plains Rangers entries in the player of the year contest for Mens Bay One and Women's Bay Bowl - Wetts and Macca. Looks like you can vote as many times as you want!!!
Rangers are invited to enter a team or teams into the Kawerau Sports quiz night, which is on after Rangers men's game at Kawerau this Saturday.

Entry is $5 per team, with the winning team taking away the total entry fee money. There will also be spot prizes up for grabs. This is open to everyone, so please bring along as many friends and family to make a good night. You would need to let them know the Team name and name of captain.
2 September Continuing rain means Rangers women's game against Taupo tomorrow has been postponed again! Rangers women are in the Pullar Cup tournament next Saturday, so we are asking the Federation if tomorrow's game can be postponed till Sunday 17th.
All the best to Michel Nillesen as he heads to Waikato Hospital for a triple bypass operation on Monday.
Hopefully Andy has recovered from injuring himself doing an extravagant turn at training in the gym on Thursday night!
If you haven't seen the latest show that Ali Scott is in - Little Shop Of Horrors - do go see it, it is fantastic!!
Well done to the All Whites on a big win against Solomon Islands last night. Chris Woods hattie, nice! Even nicer the prospect of a home game against the 5th placed South American team in November. At the moment it is Argentina!!!
27 August Rangers women went down 2 - 0 late in the game against Ngongy. Player of the day Julie Reihana. She was excellent at right back. Mishka Barry having to go off early in the second half allowed Ngongy back into the game afrter Rangers had had decent shots on goal through Caitlin, Mishka, Ki-Ki, and Samantha. Ranee was strong at centre back and Macca did some great work in the midfield.
Their coach Michel is still waiting to have a heart bypass operation.
25 August Pretty poor turn out at training last night. C'mon guys, we have three big games to play. Mind you, some impressive goals were scored. Yay the council has finally mowed the pitch, ready for the women's game Sunday. Break a leg for Ali tonight as Little Shop of Horrors has opening night.
Whakatane v Otumoetai might be worth a watch tomorrow, 2.30pm., or Kawerau v Taupo, 2pm.
20 August Rangers men went down 6 - 1 in the end at Otumoetai. A good first half performance, but overrun in the second half. Goal to Jimmy, Husnul player of the day. Injuries. The report.
17 August Rangers game against Rotorua has been postponed from next Saturday (26) until late September (16), because of pitch requirements for the AIMS Games in Tauranga! Strange rescheduling you might think. Bazza thinks so too.
14 August Some photos here of trips to Taupo in the last two weeks. The men are there for the football, the women, well....
13 August Rangers women had a classic trip to Taupo. Look out for some photos soon as they made an impact around town!. Here is Macca's report:
Taupo vs Rangers 11-0
Cold windy game today. Think we were a tad jet lagged in the 1st half. Taupo was fighting strong and fast off the mark with getting there first 3 goals, then the girls held them out for a good portion of the first half then tired legs kick in and taupo came away with another couple of goals before half time. After a few encouraging words at half time we were a different team! It took them a long time to score their 1st goal. The ladies played a better second half and had more fight in them and had alot more shot on goal however we were struggling to find the net. You ladies worked hard, Samantha you had a cracker game in the centre mids. Mishka and Gemma playing hard at home up the front.
Radhika for playing a whole half and a bit on the field.
Cracker game from our player of the day Ranee defending well with her head all day long.
Well heres to a good night of team bonding!
Best wishes to a speedy recovery Michel.
Barrie's version for the Beacon is here.
12 August A win at last! Rangers men beat Papamoa 2 - 1. Goals Sione and Hamish. Jimmy player of the day. Here's the report.
Women's coach Michel Nillesen is in Tauranga hospital at the moment with heart troubles. All the best Michel and Margaret.
A positive meeting at the Events Centre with over 50 people there and a good number ready to go on the committee.
8 August This Thursday at 7.30pm is a very important meeting about the future of the Awakeri Events Centre, our home base. A good turn out of Rangers people is important.
Want to join Rangers Fantasy EPL Fantasy League for the season starting this weekend? Can anyone beat Muggsy? Who will Chris line up in his defence? Click here to register, then select a line up, then join the Private League Plain Rangers 2017 with the code 1655987-396402
6 August Rangers men had a great battle with Taupo, losing 3 - 2 in the end. Darby Hawkes and Jamaal James both put in excellent games. Chris Butler player of the day. Here's the report. Rangers women had a tough physical game against Kawerau today. Mishka Barry player of the day.
30 July Rangers women fought hard and scored against Papamoa. Kiahli is starting to find the back of the net. The report.
The first Phoenix preseason game is on Tuesday night, and FFA Cup game away to Western Sydney, where Bonevacia has disappeared to. Will it be screened or streamed?
29 July A very entertaining game for Rangers men, but ultimmately an unfortunate loss. Welcome returns for Mike Johnstone and Ben McPherson counteracted the loss of the Edgecumbe College boys who had a noon game then the school ball to be ready for. Ngongy got off to a flier, then Rangers dominated with some nice football to lead 3 - 2 at the break. Two quick Ngongy goals led to a 3 - 5 loss in the end. Ben McPherson player of the day after a terrific goal with his first touch coming on as a sub! Here's the report.
27 July Rangers womens game at Taupo has been moved from the Sunday to the Saturday 12 August, 12 noon start. Then maybe the girls will have a night out afterwards!
23 July Rangers women put in a great effort, with a bare eleven (not literally!), eventually losing 3 - 1 at Ngongy. Kiahli the scorer and Saskia player of the day. Here's the report.
Ex-Rangers player Jeremy Hawkes had a game to remember today. His Team Taranaki beat Wairarapa United 4 - 2 to ruin Paul Ifill's (ex-Wellington Phoenix legend) team's chances of winning the Central League. Jezza got a yellow card in the defensive midfield role, and helped his side pull off the shock result.
Ifill is still playing very well, scoring once and orchestrating attacking moves.
22 July Game today postponed! Pitch soggy. Good training on Thursday, well done all the 18 who played hard out, some hearty tackles, good crashes, luckily no injuries. Good luck Ranee and girls tomorrow.
20 July Training tonight is indoors, 6pm. Wear blue, red black or white. Bar open.
Well done to all those who were at the meeting last night. Topics covered: Events Centre future being decided at a meeting Thurs 10 August. Some players are well overdue with subs. Please pay. Excellent work being done by Christian amd Katy on club nights and also running the tuckshop Saturday mornings.
Post meeting chat included Andy's surviving his time in India in style, strategies for this season's Premier Fantasy League and the Celtic night memories.
18 July Club meeting Wednesday 7.30pm after womens training. Request everyone that can be there please come, important discussions. If training cancelled, meeting will be at 7pm
Rangers had a poor first 20 minutes at Tauranga yesterday, which cost them in a 6 - 1 loss. It was a day of big scores with all-but-one games lop sided. Whakatane upset leaders Kawerau with the only close result - a 2 - 1 win. Here's the report. Rangers women moved off the bottom of the table too!
13 July To anyone who has not paid subs, they are now well overdue! Subs are $140, or $85 for students. Full or part payments can be given to Barrie at trainings or via internet banking to 01-0310-0056958-00 (make sure you reference your name!)
11 July Our Wellington Phoenix page is ready to go for the season. The FFA Cup starts soon, but we have to wait till October for the A League.
10 July Photos from the Rotorua game and also the Kawerau game the week before. Thanks Chris!
9 July Rangers men had their chances yesterday, but went down 2 - 1 in a Bowl game at Rotorua. Jordan scored. Bazza player of the day. Here's the report.
Rangers women's game today postponed with pitch waterlogged.
3 July Last chance for tickets to the Celtic Night on Saturday 15 July. The Events Centre badly needs people to sign up for this fundraising night. Email Louise for tickets louisemacdonaldnz@yahoo.co.nz $65 covers meal and Irish band.
Watch out for some excellent photos from Saturday's game in the Beacon.
Our FUN POLL has just been updated. Have your vote on all sorts of irrelevant issues for Plains Rangers and other football fans. Vote for surfing, Papamoa, Roy Krishna, goalkeepers, our pitch,... anything you like. Click here!!
1 July Rangers men went two goals down late in the first half to league leaders Kawerau, and lost 3 - 0 in the end after a penalty gifted a third goal. Carl player of the day at right back. Good to see Ben McPherson having a run around. Here's our report.
30 June Sadly Rangers women can't field a team for their game at Kawerau on Sunday and have had to default.
Rangers have been drawn away against Rotorua in the quarterfinals of the Bowl on 8 July, kick off is early at 1.30pm, for team's access to changing rooms.
25 June Rangers women battled away against Papamoa, with some determined defence, and Kiki having a number of shots saved. Joe player of the day. The score blew out in the last ten minutes into double figures. Here's the report. It doesn't mention Saskia getting covered in white paint off the lines, the own goal, Joe coming off injured with a good sprig mark across her knee, one of the young Papamoa players getting so hacked off by Joe saving her shot that she let out a stream of swearing at her, or the fact that the team hasn't had a coach for weeks now.
A couple of upsets in the Bay Sports Centre Cup yesterday, with Whakatane and Tauranga City's Bay One teams both knocked out by Bay Two opponents.
24 June All Whites V Portugal 3am tomorrow. Will they keep Cristiano Ronaldo quiet???
21 June Club night tomorrow night. Come prepared for indoor and outdoor football. The bar will be open.
All Whites v Mexico at 6am tomorrow morning in the Confederations Cup. Cmon AWs, score a goal!
19 June The womens new split league is out. Rangers are playing in the Bowl section. Papamoa is their first opponent (only because Rotorua smoked Ngongy on Sunday and edged ahead of Papamoa into the top section!).
18 June Rangers women had another hard day out, but the split league is coming this week! Ranee's report:
Plains Rangers vs Otumoetai 13-0
Well another hard day at the office for us ladies! We played hard to the end like per usual. Our back line working hard again. Good job to Saskia out on the wing. To Joe in goal today who just kept on going despite the score line and to our two strikers Gemma and Kiki who worked well together up the front. Player of the day went to Kiahli for her many shots at goal today we just couldn't put them in the net. Kiki already received our pod keyring so nominated Jo as our pod recipient. Silly willy award went to Shaz for her slow mo massive kick and a miss within the 1st few mins of being on the pitch. Well done all, catch ya Wednesday for training.
17 June Rangers had to mix their line up around to cover for some missing players. Big welcome back to Sione, who had 90 minutes, after many weeks away with health issues. He hit the crossbar as well. The team played well, losing 4 - 0 didn't reflect the game or their efforts. Sam was player of the day. Here's the report.
12 June The Federation have decided to delay the split in the women's league by a week, and have now scheduled the rained off game against Otumoetai to happen at Awakeri this Sunday (referee, pitch and opposition permitting!). Go girls!
11 June Ranee, Rangers women's team manager always has a fine style with her match reports. Here is today's one:
Plains Rangers VS Tauranga City 0-13
Last game of the round before the split and what a great game it was gals!! U played awesome today ⚽️
We had a great nothing to lose attitude that was portrayed on the pitch!
It took them quite some time to score their 1st goal, we held our ground and didn't make things easy for them all day! Kiahli had some great shots on goal ...
our back line played fantastic, defending our goal and putting their bodies on the line!
Saskia worked well hard out on the wing today.
Our goalies (Jojo and Radhika) had a bloody fab game stopping many shots on goal!!
Congratulations to the player of the day Radhika after her amazing penalty save and then saving the corner straight after :-) Radhika also kept the Silly Willy award this week too
Well done team you all played hard! thanks for the good laughs and banter today just what we needed
OW SHNAP!
If you want to read Barrie's interpretation of it, click here!
A reminder that subs are now due.
Subs are $140, or $85 for students. Full or part payments can be given to Barrie at trainings or via internet banking to 01-0310-0056958-00 (make sure you reference your name!)
9 June A dogged first half by Rangers kept Whakatane to 0 - 0, but the visitors were too slick in the end, winning 4 - 0. Ali Scott player of the day. Paul Shakes did a very good job in the middle. The report.
5 June A disappointing loss, 3 - 4 at Rotorua, in that we took the lead, conceded straight away, a couple of lapses in concentration and we lost it. Ben Howe and Jords and Petir our best. Read the report. Photos are here.
1 June A good training tonight with 20 men there. For those people worried that the Rotorua teams have disappeared from the Federation's league table in mens and womens Bay ones, it is a glitch, both teams are still playing. Men remember it is a 1.30pm kick off in Rotorua, be there 12.30. You want to check where Rotorua are, look on our league tables!
28 May Sadly today the referee deemed our pitch unplayable so the women's game against Otumoetai had to be postponed. Strangely enough, Otumoetai couldn't play at a time 30 minutes later than the scheduled kick off, after the chance to play in Whakatane was offered.
This Saturday Rangers men will be surrounded by football Rotorua United have a Federation game starting at 12.30pm, then Rangers play 1.30pm, then Rotorua have a Fed Premier game at 2.45pm. Both Rotorua games are against Matamata, so the chance to see one or two ex-Rangers players if they're playing: Matt Aberhart and Mark Jeynes.
27 May A very gritty 1 - 1 draw at home to Otumoetai. Bazza, Razza and Muggsy spent quite a while drainiing the pitch so the game could go ahead. The dancing feet of Petir Gray earned Rangers a pen. Ot's scored midway through second half and then drama at the game's end when the whistle blew... Rangers thought it was for the Ot's striker being offside, Ot's thought it was for their striker scoring a goal, but the ref was signalling game over! Razza player of the day. Ben Howe back for his first game in four years. Josh's birthday. Here is the report.
26 May Club night was a great success last night. Well done Wetts for organising it and Katy for having food on sale. Good to see Ben Howe back running around again, and welcome to all the visitors from Edgecumbe College and elsewhere.
24 May Congratulations to Muggsy for winning our Fantasy League - again!! 2nd Craig Skiffington, 3rd Chris, 4th Rory Brown, 5th Bazza , 6th Mish, 7th Wetts, 8th Matt D, 9th Andy, 10th Frank Butler.... last Mike Johnstone.
Don't forget - club night tomorrow night after men's training. All welcome.
Sounds like the next club night is gonna be a music one, with drummers, guitarists, singers, etc all in our club. Looking forward to it already.
21 May Rangers women were missing a few players too. At least Cass scored some goals, a whole hearted effort, losing to Ngongy 7 - 2. Emma player of the day.
20 May An exciting day, even if Rangers lost the game. Today was the first day of the Events Centre Tuck Shop doing the morning food for the juniors games, then rolling over into food for the seniors game. Chef Katy did a fabulous job and made the place very homely to walk into. Rangers were missing a lot of players, but managed to field a team and some subs, with the College boys getting back from their away game at half time, so two of them got on. Pete was player of the day, doing a fine job in centre back. Good quality football from both sides, with two very good finishes from Taupo securing the Cup win. Here's the report.
Rather a strange result in the Te Puke v Ngongy cup game, with result listed as 6 - 6. Who won??
17 May Rangers club night after training next Thursday 25th. All welcome - mens and womens players.
A reminder too that subs are due by the end of May, which is only a couple of weeks away
(scroll down to 4th March news for the details).
If you know ex-Rangers player Ashley Hawkes, you might spot him on tv on a Kit Kat Katapult ad that has just started playing. Ash took a break (pun!) from football in Sydney to film the ad in Romania a few weeks ago. Click here to see the extended version of the ad.
14 May All the drama was at the women's home game today. Rangers women did well despite losing to the well performed Rotorua United 7 - 0. Michel got in trouble with the ref and Margaret set the aftermatch food on fire, setting off the alarms, and bringing the fire brigade! Sarah scored one of Rotorua's goals as well! Emma player of the day.
Rangers men didn't play their best at Papamoa, where a strong one way wind didn't help. Jords scored a good goal, but Rangers somehow couldn't keep out a long range free kick. A 1 - 1 draw.
Defenders Jamaal and Levi were Rangers best. The report.
7 May Rangers women did very well against the league leaders Taupo today. Kiahli scored to give us the lead. Taupo did win 5 - 1 in the end though. A much improved display. Gemma hit her head hard on the ground late in the game to bring an ambulance and an early finish. All the best Gemma. Here is the report.
6 May Glorious conditions, a hard fought game against Taupo, ended 0 - 0, the ref awarded Richie a goal, then after protests from the surrounding Taupo team, changed his mind. Ali Scott player of the day. Read the report. Great to see Sione able to come and watch. Welcome back Sione!
In the first round of Bay Sports Centre Cup on May 20th, Rangers have been drawn at home to Taupo's Bay Two side.
1 May Libby Shove was the Rangers player of the day in a high scoring game at Whakatane. Enough said!
29 April Rangers men played good football at times at Ngongy, got an early lead via Richie (first game back since injury last year), assisted by Hamish. Hamish got a late winner, although it needed Wetts to save a penalty. Jimmy player of the day. Here's the report. Rangers might be 8th in the league, but we have the best defence in terms of goals conceded!
23 April A good crowd to watch the local derby between Rangers women and Kawerau. In the end Kawerau were too strong, winning 5 - 0. Kiahli player of the day. Here's the report. Some good photos of the game at Pitbull Photography, including a couple of cheeky ones!
22 April Rangers men finally back playing football after three weeks off, thanks to Cyclones Debbie and Cook. Tauranga City deserved their 3 - 0 win , but Rangers battled well, suffered injuries to two important players. Muggsy was player of the day. Tauranga City were generous in donating money towards the Edgecumbe relief fund. Read the report.
Time to get some subs paid....

19 April Sadly, Rotorua Social have pulled out of the women's league, meaning there is now a bye in the league.
18 April Coach Wetts, is calling everyone to training on Thursday, followed by a beer and a catch up. Lots of flood and cyclone talk to be sure. We are home against unbeaten top-of-the-table Tauranga City on Saturday, and Rangers women are home to Kawerau on Sunday. Should be a big weekend.
16 April Final Phoenix game of the season tonight. Brilliant attacking but some poor defending, a 3 - 1 lead turned into a 4 - 3 loss away to Brisbane.
14 April Thanks to Cyclone Cook, there are trees down all over Tarawera Park, so tomorrow's game at Kawerau is postponed.
13 April Training is cancelled tonight!
Good luck to all Rangers players and supporters as the cyclone aproaches. Hopefully our surfers aren't tempted by the massive swells predicted. Our thoughts continue to be with all those affected by the Edgecumbe floods... Matt, Muggs, Bas, Cass, Josh and probably quite a few more.
10 April Muggsy continues to lead Rangers fantasy premier league table, with the Chelsea-mad Chris just behind him.
9 April Rangers women did well for the first section of their game at Papamoa, but fell away to lose 7 - 0 in the end. Player of the day keeper Radhika Arulambalam. Sarah Boyce and Shayna Penberth also impressed.
The Phoenix had a good 1 - 1 draw with league champions Sydney FC, but now can't make the play-offs.
7 April Rangers men's game with Katikati tomorrow is postponed. Field still very soggy from drains overflowing over half of it. All the best to all Rangers people that are flood affected. The results are in and the tables updated.
5 April Check out a few pics of the game, courtesy of Chris. The Beacon had a good one today of Wetts in full cry.
4 April Coming up soon at the Awakeri Events Centre a quiz night (Friday May 5th). They are looking for sponsors, to sponsor tables or quiz rounds. Only $100. Text Barrie 0274637791 if you would like to be a sponsor.
2 April A very disappointing start to our women's season. Rotorua rang this morning to default. In fact all three Rotorua teams defaulted today. What's going on??
Tonight the Phoenix had an excellent away win 3 - 0 against Melb Victory. Next Saturday's home game v champs Sydney should be a cracker.
1 April Rangers men started off their BOP 1st division campaign well. They showed plenty of heart to hold off Whakatane Town, with a 0 - 0 away draw. Keeper Wetts was in his usual outstanding form, player of the day. Debuts from Carl Imlig and Ranui Renata, wlcome back to Samuel Christieson and Jacob Heath. Petir got the first yellow card of the season. Read the report.
Good luck to our women tomorrow at Awakeri, 12.30pm.
25 March Rangers men had a tough preseason game at Kawerau. Nuff said.
In less serious news, diehard Chelsea fan Chris Butler has put together this history of John Terry, mainly for the benefit of son Frank. Have a look if you can bear it! (opens in new window)
The women's draw has changed. Plains Rangers men are still away to Whakatane on April 1st, while Rangers women are now at home to Rotorua Social on April 2nd. It's getting serious! See the rest of the draws on the Waibop web site.

Preseason games for men 11 March at home to both Papamoa and Matamata (Mark Jeynes has just transferred there!); and women 26 March at Kawerau.
Who has the men's strip (after the Kawerau game last season!!!)?

If you intend to play for the men's or women's teams this year, please be there, or contact Michel, Margaret, Christian or Barrie if you can't make it. Also, looks like Rangers men have a preseason date on Sat 11 March, at home to both Papamoa and Matamata. Time to get fit everyone!
Tonight's kick around tournament certainly helped with 2 hours of solid football. Well done to those 36 people who played and survived!
30 January The Phoenix played in horrific conditions last night in Adelaide, temperature 38 degrees. The Nix asked for the game to be delayed, but no. Players suffering from heat stroke. Hopefully they recover for the game in New Plymouth this Saturday. Bazza and Jezza are going. Anyone else?
27 January An even bigger kick about last night. Girls v boys! Quite a few goals, some good tackles. Some unfitness and some good passing. See you again next Thursday 6pm. There are a couple of photos in Photo of the Week, cheers Chris.
19 January
A very good turn out for tonight's kick about. We played 12 aside for over two hours. Another one again next Thursday, 6pm at Awakeri. All welcome.
Sad news that Malcolm Logan passed away. His son Daniel was a legendary striker for Edgecumbe. Malcolm used to often run the line for us at Edgecumbe and even took the whistle a couple of times. Haere ra Malcolm. Deepest sympathy to Beth, Dan and all.
18 January Two great results from the Phoenix, a 1 - 0 win over Central Coast on Sat, then a brilliant 3 - 0 win over Melb Victory on Tuesday. Victory (2nd in the league) were on a six game winning streak until then. Excellent goals from Bonevacia, Tratt and Barbarouses. Another home game this Saturday against 4th placed Brisbane Roar. If you're near Wellington, go see it!
Congratulations to ex-Rangers player Ashley Hawkes on his wedding to Gina Krone at Matata on Saturday. Oi oi Ash!
11 January Change of day for kick around... Friday 6pm, bring a cold drink, at Awakeri. All welcome. Spread the word.
6 January 2017 Happy New Year!! Phoenix were on the wrong end of a poor red card decision in Perth last night, and a Perth player headbutted Rossi and only got a yellow!! Oh dear. Next Rangers kick around: Thursday 12 January 6pm. All welcome.
