30 December 2016 First summer kick around went well last night. 5 v 5. Well done to Shazza being the only woman there. Good to see Josh back running around. Most nutmegged? Jamaal. Jezza looked sharp.

19 December Shane Smeltz is coming home to the Phoenix! A surprise move, but he knows how to score goals. Lets hope that means a happy new year!!

12 December A great result for the Nix, winning 3 - 0 in Hamilton. Disappointing that only 5200 fans were there to see Lia's brilliant strike and plenty of goal action.
Maybe this Saturday in Auckland there will be a good turn out.
Chris Butler and Chelsea on a good run in the fantasy league at the moment. It won't last! (thinks Bazza hopefully).

8 December Massive news for Phoenix fans, that coach Ernie Merrick resigned after a 2 - 0 loss to Adelaide on Sunday. Most fans and players are in shock. Bazza for one thinks Ernie should have stayed. Support the Nix this Saturday in Hamilton to try and get the ship back on course. Oi Oi Phoenix!

4 December Two Phoenix games coming up that locals can get to. Next Saturday in Hamilton, then Auckland the following Saturday (17th).

13 November A good weekend for football fans. The All Whites had a solid win against New Caledonia in a World Cup qualifier, then the Nix, despite missing 6 players on international duty, had a deserved 2 - 0 away win at Central Coast with a good performance.

6 November The Phoenix finally get a win, two good Roy Krishna goals.

29 October There was a cool article on our young player of the year Jamaal James in the Whakatane Beacon yesterday. A great advertisement for Edgecumbe College, Plains Rangers and Jamaal himself. Nice photo too!
Hopefully the Phoenix will score a goal on Monday night and even get some points.

20 October Click here to enjoy Ranee's slideshow of Rangers Women's season. Very entertaining!

18 October Check out Photo of the week for shots of the band on Saturday night.

16 October Break up and prize giving went well last night. The evening started with the AGM, then moved into prize giving. After that Ali Scott's band Alpha66 played some great music for the rest of the night. Many thanks to Ali and Alpha66 for that. The awards went to:

If you haven't had your vote on players' player of the year, please do so before cut off time! Text Margaret or Barrie. Oi Oi Rangers!

26 September Make sure you keep Saturday 15 October evening free for our break-up & prize giving. Details out next week. Not long till the first Phoenix game!!

11 September A great way to finish the season!! After the disappointment of the Pullar Cup being cancelled, Rangers women re-rearranged their catch up game with Ngongotaha and came away with an excellent performance and a 3 - 1 win. Kiahli scored 2 and was player of the day. Here's the report.
On Saturday night Christian Wetting did well, winning his match in Fight For Life. Earlier in the day the 11th grade Awakeri Warriors that he and Chris Butler coach had won a tense 1 - 0 game with league leaders Ohope to snatch the league title!
Also on Saturday, ex-Rangers player Jeremy Hawkes's Team Taranaki travelled to Wellington and managed to overturn a 1 - 0 deficit from the first leg of a play-off between them at Karori-Waterside to see who got promoted into the Central League next season, winning 2 - 1 to go through on the away goals rule. Well done TT! The newspaper report.
The Wellington Phoenix chimed in with a 4 - 1 away win over Melbourne City today too in a pre-season clash.

4 September Rangers men had a good go at Kawerau yesterday and were rather unlucky to lose to a late free kick 2 - 1. Two first half red cards were disappointing, with Kawerau's player provoking and then hitting our player, who retaliated. Jamaal was our scorer, his first goal in senior football. Wetts player of the day. Here's the report.
Good luck today to ex-Rangers player Jeremy Hawkes who is playing for Team Taranaki against Waterside of Wellington in a playoff first leg to see which of them goes into the Central League next year.
Good luck too to Wetts, who is the final bout of Fight For Life next Saturday. At least Wetts didn't join in the fight yesterday and bruise his knuckles!

29 August Sounds like a crazy afternoon at Otumoetai on Saturday, where Rotorua were leading 2 - 1 in an even game with 25 minutes to go, it ended up 8 - 2 to the visitors!!!!

28 August Rangers women lost 5 - 0 at Kawerau today. Gemma Stuckey player of the day. Rangers women are entering the Pullar Cup on 11 September, then they have a catch up game against Ngongy on the 18th.
Have a look at these cool pics of the men's game against Ngongy taken yesterday by Peter Olifiers.

27 August Rangers men lost an entertaining game 3 - 4 to Ngongotaha today. Hamish Wilde player of the day. He and Sione were the scorers. The report.

22 August Our photos of the football.

21 August Zach has some awesome photos of the jubilee evening and the jubilee games on his Pitbull Photography site. Check them out! Lots of fun at the social football today. In very warm conditions, there was a good turn out, a game of about16 aside was played. Michel scored a couple of goals, Ali showed yesterday's winner was no fluke, the kids showed their skills and courage... Many thanks to Matt's dad for doing the barbecue. Happy 25 years Rangers!! Oi Oi !!

20 August A great day for Rangers 25th jubilee. Rangers women played an entertaining, evenly matched game with the invitation XI. Thanks to Mishka Barry for bringing along a lot of her school team to make up the squad. Cassidy Spillman scored the winner for Rangers 1 - 0.
Rangers men v Whakatane was a good battle, with an Ali Scott strike late in the game grabbing a 1 - 0 win for Rangers. Coach Muggsy was happy - the Sponsors Cup has back to Rangers. A very good performance considering sickness took away two starting players and others played who were not 100% . Here's the report. Photos to come.
Jubilee evening was great, lots of good stories told, photos etc shared. Two lovely cakes were baked and iced by Joe and Sarah. Thankyou! Thanks too to Ranee for all the sober driving afterwards. Good to see quite a few ex-players there for the night.

17 August Rangers women win by default again! This time over Ngongotaha. Rangers women will now play an Invitation XI on Saturday. Keen to be part of it? Be there by 12 noon.

14 August Rotorua defaulted late... this morning 9am! Rangers women win 3 - 0.

13 August Rangers men had a good first half, opened the scoring, had some bad luck and ended up losing 5 - 1 at Taupo. The score flattered Taupo a bit. James Hart player of the day. The report. Some photos, courtesy of coach Chris. Jubilee registrations now at 50. They close end of Sunday.

2 July No ref appointed. After a scrappy start, Rangers settled down and earned a 2 - 1 win at home to Papamoa. Full commitment in defence was needed for the last half hour. Muggsy organised the defence, player of the day. Welcome back to Jimmy Hart. The report.
Sadly Rangers women had too many players uavailable for the game with Whakatane and defaulted.

28 June The draw for the next round of the Bay Sportsmed Bowl is out. Rangers have got Papamoa's Bay One side away on July 9th. Kickoff is now 2.30pm.

10 June Well done everyone who gave it heaps at training in the raining last night! A reminder, you need $5 for the feed, $5 if you want a team in Euro16 and don't forget subs! Oi Oi Rangers.

7 June Ex-Rangers player Jeremy Hawkes in Chatham Cup action for New Plymouth Rangers.

6 June A very interesting result with Tauranga City United knocking over league leaders Taupo 3 - 0 on Saturday. Rangers will have to be at their best to match them this time round, after beating TCU away earlier in the season.
If you want to be given a team in the Euros2016, have $5 with you at training. Mind you, we can't all have Spain! It might ease the pain of the Netherlands not actually being there!

4 June Literally a hard fought home win for Rangers. Rangers played some great football to lead 2 - 0, only for Kawerau to pull a goal back on the stroke of half time. Sione scored both Rangers goals, Hamiora scored Kawerau's. Matt Eveleens player of the day. Both sides piling in late in the game after Ben Sexton had fouled Hamiora was a disappointing end to the game. Game report.

31 May Rangers women are on a roll! A 2 - 2 draw on Sunday was a massive turn around from a 10 - 2 thumping in the first game of the season. Ranee player of the day. Well played! Here's the report.
Rangers men's postponed game will now be on the 25th June, at 2.30pm.

28 May Rangers v Ngongotaha postponed. Ground closed. Doh. Perhaps it was just as well: both Ngongy's teams in the Fed leagues were postponed as well! The All Whites beat Fiji 3 - 1 in the ONC. Next game Tuesday 6pm, Sky Sport 56.
Don't forget subs need to have started being paid!

15 May Ranee's report on a good win at Rotorua. Unfortunately player of the day Tara Edwards was carted off to hospital after a head knock late in the game. All the best Tara!
We won our first game for the season and we aren't even at the end of the season yet, just 6 games in, well done ladies. Great 2 goals score today one coming from Mikaela Mathis with an up close and personal goal right there in the 6 yard box and one coming from Kiahli Ibbetson with a shot just outside of the 6 yard box, these two great goals came from great passes Janie Paling and Libby Shove and with support from our mid fielders and all theses goal with in the first half of the game. For the remander of the game we had more chances on goal from Janie Paling, Libby Shove, Sophie Estall, Ranee Whiting plus more tries from Kiahli Ibbetson and Mikaela Mathis with then either going wide/high or just a bit to short. Libby Shove did some great running down the line and some great crossing with the ball and passes. Some more great work from Sophie Estall on the field playing left right and centre. The back 5 held strong as well. We all keep on fighting till the end, it was another physical game.
To read Barrie's version of the win, plus the men's game yesterday, click here! Also, photos of the men's game yesterday, thanks to photographer Chris Butler.
Also.... keep the weekend of August 20 and 21 free for Rangers 25th jubilee! Football games, remembering old and good times, an evening of socialising, past players games, etc etc.

14 May The Sponsors Cup was up for grabs, Ali played 30 minutes before rushing off to play King Bernard in the Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime, a lovely sunny day, but no goals! Rangers held onto the Cup with a 0 - 0 draw. Jimmy Krause was player of the day. Farewell to Jimmy Hart as he heads off over to America tomrrow for a couple of months. Watch out for some photos of the game tomorrow.
Club meeting this Thursday at 7.30pm. One topic will be our jubilee.

12 May A good training tonight in preparation for the local derby on Saturday. Laugh of the night Jamaal's encounter with a hedgehog!

9 May Rangers men's match had it all: controversy, bizarre events, ref Dave Taylor even got up to speak at the aftermatch about Rangers sportingly allowing Taupo to score, Taupo coach Alan Lamb even said the Awakeri pitch wasn't too bad and he'd played on worse. Maybe the long grass disguised the lumps and bumps! Read the report. Today Rangers women might have kept that generous Mothers Day spirit into the start of the game, but once they got going, it was a great battle with Whakatane. Injuries in all direction! Read the report.
The Bay Sportsmed Cup draw is out. Rangers have got Whakatane Town Bay 2 again on May 21, but at home.

3 May Great to see the Whakatane Beacon today had full page colour coverage of Rangers women's game!! Here are some cool photos of the game too, including Janie's goal. Thanks very much to Zach and Pitbull Photography. In fact you can click here to see more of them on Zach's web site. You can even buy photos from him.

1 May Rangers women turn on one of their best performances to grab a 1 - 1 draw at Kawerau. Janie Paling scorer and player of the day. Here's the report.
Congratulations to Adelaide United who beat Western Sydney in the A League final. It also meant Jordan got a win in a weird multi bet with a Mexican Premier League match!

30 April. Good to see Rangers players at the working bee laying the new floor in the Events Centre over the weekend. Not so good was Rangers slipping to a late defeat at Opotiki after having a deserved 2 - 0 lead. Peter Kirikbride player of the day. The report.

26 April News Flash!! There is a big working bee this weekend at the Awakeri Events Centre, laying the new floor of the gymnasium. If you can help.... It starts at 5pm Friday evening, then it starts again at 7am Saturday morning. It may continue Sunday. We need Rangers players and supporters to go please!
The work involves positioning and screwing in a large number of flooring sheets. If you have a cordless drill or impact drill that would be very helpful. Donations of food to feed the team would also be helpful.

25 April A couple of photos from Saturday in Photo of the week.

24 April Rangers men won a hard fought battle at Tauranga City, 1 - 0, thanks to a great Jordan Ogilvy header. Farewell to player of the day Jaiden Ibbetson as he heads over to the UK. Make sure you come back Jaiden!! Read the report.

16 April Rangers men lost 2 - 3 at Papamoa today. Richie Nillesen POD. Hamish Wilde went within 2 centimetres of getting a hat-trick! Alarming for centre back Matt Dalgity to see both outside backs cramping up at the same time! Read the report. Bad news that Richie's injury is not a good one, broken knee cap.

10 April Rangers women fought hard against a good Taupo team today in warm sunny conditions. Player of the day Sophie Estall. Taupo won the game. Highlight of the day was watching ref Norm march over to give the visiting coach a stern talking to.
The Wellington Phoenix lost their last game of the season, 2 - 0 to Runners up Weestern Sydney. Sad to see Phoenix legends Ben Sigmund (retiring) and Manny Muscat (transferring to Melb City) leave. Siggy in typical fashion with a head bandage covering up the blood!

9 April Rangers put in another good performance today, beating Rotorua 2 - 0. Rangers welcomed the return of Hamish Wilde and last year's captain James Hart. Sione and Jaiden were the scorers but lots of other chances were created too. Player of the day stand-in goalkeeper Ben Sexton. Read the match report.
Quote of the week, when Sione was asked by Andy after last week's game "Why did you bicycle kick the ball in?", Sione's reply was " I don't know how to head it!"

8 April Next week is National Referees Week. The Ref's Association is particularly keen to hear from footballers who are in their early 30's, in particular those who:

  • have played the game.
  • don’t want to get injured because of increased work and family responsibilities.
  • can’t afford to train with a team at a set time.
  • are looking for a new challenge.
  • want the opportunity to be involved at higher levels of the game.
If interested in refereeing please contact Paul Higgins on paul.h@waibop.co.nz

6 April Sad news that Dave Cook has passed away recently. Dave Cook, the driving force of the AFC Fury club, and Mount Maunganui in the old Natioanl League days was a huge character, liked or hated he will be missed. Read some insightful tributes here and a report of a famous game between Rangers and Fury here.
Good news.... Great for Dutch and Women's football fans. On Friday morning the NZ Football Ferns are playing the Netherlands. It will be live on Sky Sport 3 at 4.30am, repeated at 1 pm. There's that bit of ORANGE on the Plains Rangers logo!

5 April Check out our globe trotting Rangers hoodie! It's at the home of QPRangers, Muggsy's favourite team. Also, great to see Plains Rangers in full colour all over today's Whakatane Beacon! Make sure you get your copy!

4 April Photos from Rangers men's game on Saturday. A couple of blasts from the past and a new blast altogether!
Something for Wett and fellow Dutch/Kiwis to get excited about... the Football Ferns take on Netherlands on Thursday in a friendly. Hopefully we can find out more info on it.

3 April Rangers women had a high scoring game too at Te Puke, sadly though Te Puke got most of them. Player of the day Cassidy got two. Yay Cassidy! The report.

2 April Rangers men got off to a flying start, scoring after three minutes, then going on to win 8 - 1 against Otumoetai. James Krause player of the day. The crowning glory was a late bicycle kick goal from Sione Lotu on debut. Here's the match report, Photos still coming. The Beacon photographer was there too, so watch out for their pics.

28 March A good blow out on Saturday, with Rotorua capitalising on a couple of errors to win 2 - 1. Jaiden Ibbetson grabbed Rangers goal.
Changes for the women!!! Tauranga City have now pulled out of the Bay One league, so there is a new draw on the WaiBOP website. At least this Sunday's game is still the same.

18 March The draws are out, on the WaiBOP web site. Rangers men have two home games to start the season, the first on April 2 against Otumoetai. Rangers women are away to Te Puke on April 3. Our links on the left of the page have quite a bit of our draws on them.
In the meantime, trainings have been intense. Rangers men have a preseason game at home to Rotorua next Saturday (Easter Saturday), and possibly a game against Trident High School too. Rangers welcome back Jimmy Krause and welcome newcomer Sione Lotu, both have plenty of pace which will be an asset. Rangers women have a preseason game at Kawerau this Sunday (20th) at 12.30pm.

13 March An inspiring Phoenix win away at Sydney last night. Remember you need to register!!!! All of you! Otherwise you can't play. See 29 Feb for the link.

2 March A good turn out and good work at the women's training tonight, followed by a constructive club meeting. Under discussion was: leagues kicking off on April 2 & 3; 25th jubilee weekend later in season (e.g. 20 August) with home games and fun games; player registrations and transfers; sponsors for the season (any suggestions, or offers, see Barrie or Margaret). Coming up is the Federation BOP senior clubs meeting on 8 March in Tauranga (at Sport BOP, 630pm).

29 February Lots on this week: Tues 6pm kick around; Wednesday 7.45pm club meeting after women's training (all welcome); Thurs 6pm men's training.
Player registrations are now ready. All players need to complete the online registration form. Click here. Please choose the option: I am registering to this club for the first time.
A brilliant result for the Phoenix on Friday. Can they do it again this Saturdayagainst Adelaide who haven't lost since December 3? Check out our Nix pages.

21 February A good men's training on Friday. This week sees another Lathams Track run Tuesday, women's training Wednesday and men's training Friday. All 6pm starts. All welcome. Congratulations to Mike Johnstone, Sarah gave birth to baby Riley on Thursday.
The Wellington Phoenix couldn't back up their sensational game last week, going down away to Newcastle 3 - 2 last night. Hamish Watson scored twice then got sent off for a silly second yellow card. At least their new licence to continue in the A League has come through, along with talk of major signings.

16 February An incredible performance & result from the Wellington Phoenix on Sunday, with a superb Blake Powell perfect first half hat trick setting up a 5 - 2 away win over high fliers Western Sydney Wanderers.
Bad news today though that a major NZ Football stuff up has meant that Alex Jones's transfer to the Nix from Birmingham City has failed and he is flying home. NZF have apologised!!
A good run up Lathams Track tonight, guys and gals. Muggsy led the way to the top, just like his position in the Rangers Fantasy League!!

13 February A successful player muster last night. Rangers women have a squad of around 16 and Rangers men around 18. What's on from now? Pre-season training. This Tuesday, a run up Latham's Track. Meet at track start at 6pm. Women's trainings on Wednesdays at Awakeri at 6pm. Men's trainings Fridays for the next couple of weeks at 6pm, but switching to Thursdays. All welcome, come and join in.

4 February Kick around again tomorrow (Friday) evening 6pm. Bring a water bottle!
Official player muster next Friday 12th at 6pm, at Awakeri. All welcome, male and female, including senior high school students. Contact Barrie by email or phone 0274637791 for more info, or if you want to play but can't turn up at the muster.

27 January Check out this compelling Save The Nix video made by a genuine good dude Australian. You might even recognize someone in it.

24 January A puzzle for you... check out photo of the week!

19 January A fun hot afternoon of football on Sunday. There is more, this Friday 6pm at Awakeri. All welcome, men and women, high school students. Make sure you bring a water bottle! We won't talk about the Nix game.
Muggsy has knocked Bazza off the Fantasy league table top!

15 January Summer kick around this Sunday (17th) at Awakeri at 4pm.

14 January 2016 Phoenix put in a great backs to the wall show against lague leaders Brisbane, despite being without 8 players suspended or injured! Bazza had a good weekend down there, being the 1 millionth Nix fan through the gate, with its accompanying Huawei prize pack was only part of the fun!

31 December 2015 Happy New Year everyone. May your new year be better than the Phoenix's last two games!!

22 December Happy Christmas to all Rangers players and supporters! Congratulations to Peter Kirkbride, married last weekend.

12 December A good turn out at the kick around last night. 16 turned up for 90 min of football. Not sure when the next one is. Phoenix came within a few minutes of a result in the heat and humidity of Cairns tonight. Krishna another good goal. Looking forward to their next home game in Welly next Saturday. Check out photo of the week for the dodgy pitch from last Nix game!
News from the Federation that Bay Sportsmed are going to sponsor the knockout mens competition again next year, plus possibly a Women's competition. High School teams might also be allowed to enter the men's comp.

7 December A great result for the Phoenix, knocking Melbourne Victory off the top of the table. Awful Albany pitch and clash of colours didn't detract from a great game. Roy Krishna, Roly Bonevacia, Andrew Durante and Glenn Moss all got in the A League team of the week. Pretty funny chants going on in the 11000 crowd "We wish you a merry Krishna", etc. Fan boycotts at a number of other A League games meant the Auckland attendance was the biggest of the weekend!

1 December Sounds like the kick around went very well, plenty of numbers for a game. There's another on in two weeks - that'd be Friday 11th Dec. All welcome (including new players). A few of the boys are heading to Auckland for the Phoenix game this Saturday. Got your tickets yet?

24 November Feel like a kick around? Turn up at Awakeri this Friday, from 5.30pm onwards. All welcome, male & female. Hopefully with inspiration from the Phoenix game this Thursday night in Sydney. 10pm NZ time.
Also, next Saturday, 5th December the Phoenix have a game in Auckland, at North Harbour Stadium 7pm. A great chance to go watch them play. Shirts off anyone?!

17 November A great day in Wellington last Friday, 13600 turned up to see the Phoenix whip Adelaide 4 - 2. Awesome displays from Roy Krishna and Roly Bonevacia. Check out our Nix and A League pages.

12 November At the BOP Federation meeting this week a number of local issues came up: BOP divs 1 and 2 could be combined next season, with rolling subs applying to both leagues. Any defaults must now be notified by midday the day before the scheduled game. The BOP season should start on April 2nd 2016. Clubs will be asked about interest in a Federation Women's league involving 4 clubs from BOP and 4 from Waikato. There may be an opening for a new sponsor for the men's BOP knock out cup.
SaveTheNix campaign has been in full swing, including a scarf attack on Wellington. The TAB's facebook page has even featured a couple of Rangers players on their poster! All hoping for a big crowd and good performance tomorrow night in Wellington.

4 November Rangers player-coach & life member Wetts had his 40th birthday on Saturday night at the Edgecumbe Plains Hotel. It was an excellent night with many current and past Rangers players there, e.g Ronald Overdevest (check him out on our past squads listing in 1999!). Ali's band played some great music, Wetts even joined the band for a few numbers, Jenny was sober driver, well she said she was, Olivia was there from Gissy, Katy's cake was spectacular, Chris Butler organised a gift from Rangers to Wett's. Check it out here, plus the wind-up gift!
Sadly after a week of Phoenix torture, with the FFA not granting the Nix a ten year licence and looking like they want to get rid of them out of the A League, the Nix lost at Melbourne Victory 3 - 0 on Monday. Save the Nix campaigns are into gear with fans from opposing Aussie clubs even joining in. If you haven't ever been to a Nix game, there is one coming up in Auckland on Sat December 5th, which might also double as Pete's stag weekend! Go see the Nix before we lose them!

28 October The Phoenix had a great 3 - 2 win against Brisbane Roar on Saturday. Bazza and Jezza were there to see it and the before-match and after-match. Click here to see Jezza making friends with Nix captain Siggy (Ben Sigmund). Now news that the FFA doesn't seem to want the Nix in the A League. All sorts of protests have been launched. Perhaps they're scared we will win the league! Check out our Nix pages.

19 October Excellent result from the Phoenix last night and a rare goal to Vinnie Lia. Our Honours Board has been updated. It makes fascinating reading if you're into a bit of history!

18 October Rangers held a very successful break-up/prize giving last night. The evening started with the AGM. Click here to read the president's report which includes lots of season highlights. The prize giving followed. The prize list is in the president's report. Congrats to James Hart and Mikaela Mathis on taking out the players of the year. There are some awesome photos of the break-up night and prize giving on Pitbull Photography's site (Thanks Zack.) While we're at it, here is a very cool slideshow of the Rangers ladies (these links all open in a new window).
The speeches talked about the excellent club spirit, the celebration of Rangers 25th anniversary next year, the pleasing growth in player base, especially with younger high school age players... Watch out on this page for the fortnightly Friday night kick arounds that Christian mentioned.
Many thanks to Frank Wetting for the disco, lights, smoke (well, the Events Centre smoke sensors need to recognise the difference between that and real smoke!). A big thankyou to Janelle and Shane for the cool Rangers tee shirts. Thanks too to Jacqs McPherson for the photo of the lights being installed.
Lost property: Jordan's wallet (oh found by Pete), tee shirt and sunnies (oh they're Frank's), a cooler bag with drinks still in it (see Barrie).
Other highlights: Kirk Bain turning up a year late to receive his trophy from last season, the dancing (did the young fullas dance more than Levi did at the Edgecumbe College ball?!), talk of forming a jubilee committee early next year, the evacuation drill, Zack's photos...
Barrie has two named photos of the Rangers men's team A4 size printed, $15, let him know if you want one.

11 October Well that was a shit start to the Phoenix season. Rangers could teach Roy Krishna how to take penalties!

7 October The votes are in! Well done 35 people voted for Players' Player. All will be revealed at our prize giving. Saturday 17 October at the Events Centre. From 6pm at the Events Centre. AGM at 6.30pm. Prize giving at 7.30pm. $10 per person towards the food please. Family members welcome, but probably not suitable for kids. Get ready for a good night.

4 October Our Wellington Phoenix pages are being set up here. Well done Kawerau, confirmed as champions of the Fed Two league because West Ham only beat Te Puke 7 - 1.

29 September New team photos here. What a handsome lot! Make sure you text Barrie 0274637791 with your vote for players' player of the year by Friday 7pm. Text Margaret with votes for women's players' player by Friday as well.

26 September Good to see a number of Rangers players at the Awakeri Junior break-up today. Chris Butler played against the kids wearing his Diego Costa shirt (shouldn't you wear something else while he's suspended Chris??). Wett was rampaging down the wing, Jo was trying to let in goals so the kids could score....
Looks like it's congratulations to Kawerau, who drew 2 - 2 at West Hamilton to be top of Fed div 2 on goal difference. Mind you, West Ham can beat them if they can beat Te Puke by 33 goals next weekend!
Have you noted our breakup night on your calendar. More details soon.

23 September Awakeri Events Centre is having a quiz night the night before our break up. So the quiz night is Friday 16 October. Form a team and enter. $10 a person. Fundraising for the Event Centre. Warm up for our prize giving! Here's the information.

20 September Rangers women had a good day at the Pullar Cup tournament today, coming away as runner up in the Pullar Bowl. Rangers met Rotorua Utd in the first round, losing and then got a bye through to the final of the Bowl against Opotiki. Opotiki scored late in the first half. Rangers started the second half brightly and a good move ended with Cassidy Spillman hitting the post. Rangers had a fair share of territory but couldn't quite make it count and Opotiki won the game. In the Cup final, host club Whakatane had a two goal lead against league champions Otumoetai, who came back late to draw 2 - 2. However in the penalty shoot out Whakatane took it 4 - 1, converting all their kicks, and their keeper making two good saves. Otumoetai's coach was rather ungracious in defeat afterwards. However, the winners medals sat happily around the Whakatane's players' necks. Rangers women were happy with their runners up medals too!

17 September Rangers breakup & prizegiving & AGM night is confirmed for Saturday 17 October. Write it in your calendar!!

16 September A big turn out at the meeting tonight, after five of the men turned up and joined in the women's training! Good luck to the women for the Pullar Cup this Sunday. Supporters welcome. First game at Whakatane is at 10.30am. against Rotorua. Can anyone beat Ranee for golden boot?
Our break up / prize giving / AGM night is to be confirmed but could be Saturday October 17th. More details coming soon.
The Phoenix's season is getting closer, kicks off Sunday 11th Oct.
Muggsy is back in front of our Fantasy league.

12 September Sadly Rangers men had their game cancelled late this morning after Old Blues decided to default. The men and three women had a friendly game anyway, followed by two delicious crockpots.

10 September. Kawerau have pulled out of the Bay 2 competition. That means Rangers last game is this Saturday against Old Blues.

6 September The report and photos.

5 September Rangers won the Bay Sportsmed Bowl final today, 2 - 0 against Papamoa. Early goal to Andy, a couple of great saves from Wett, second half penalty converted by Andy and Rangers win the trophy. Outstanding team effort, Bazza player of the day. Report and photos to come. Plenty of singing in the changing rooms afterwards, bubbly sprayed around. "One Andy Willis, there's only one Andy Willis". Drinks at Matt's tonight!

30 August Rangers women did well at Kawerau, putting up a fighting effort. Libby player of the day. The report (both versions)!

29 August A 3 - 1 win in the end at Opotiki, after a scoreless first half. Niggly game. A great solo goal by Petir Gray opened the door. Chris Butler almost scored a diving header. Mike Johnstone player of the day. Read the report.

25 August On Thursday night at 7.30pm is the AGM of the Awakeri Events Centre. Some men might need to be drafted in from their training to make sure the numbers are there for the meeting.
Muggsy now leads the Rangers fantasy league, by a whisker!

23 August Rangers retained the Sponsors' Cup with a hard fought scoreless draw yesterday. Despite missing captain Jimmy and Jordan, Rangers put in a good effort in a new formation. Ben Sexton was player of the day. Read the Report and see the photos. Sorry no mention of photo of Chris's impressive bicycle kick!

20 August Rangers have agreed to a 1pm kick off at Whakatane on Saturday. Be there 12 noon! The Sponsors Cup is up for grabs. Hopefully Rangers can put into action the goal scoring drill that we spent an hour doing tonight!

19 August Rangers Fantasy league is kicking along nicely now with 15 people entered. Bazza, Muggsy and Jamaal are leading the pack!

15 August A wet Awakeri, no ref appointed, a competitive battle, a 1 - 1 draw, goal to Ben Sexton, Matt Eveleens player of the day. The report.
Sadly Rangers women could not muster a team for their game at Te Puke tomorrow and defaulted. Another game has been rescheduled for Sept 6th.

12 August The Pullar Cup women's tournament is on Sunday 20 September at Rex Morpeth Park Whakatane. A couple of new player profiles on, have a read. Others players feel free to email them in!

11 August The new split league is out for the men. Rangers are at home to Otumoetai this Saturday. Check out the rest of our fixtures or the draw in general. And who's leading the Fantasy Football table? hmmm

8 August Rangers men had a 3 - 0 win against Kawerau Sports today. Kawerau battled gamely, while Rangers took quite a while to get their shooting boots on. Petir Gray player of the day, with Jaiden scoring twice. Here's the report. Rangers women's game tomorrow has been transferred to Opotiki College, because some bastard has done wheelies all over the nice Magpie Park surface.

3 August Eight people have entered a team in the Fantasy Football Rangers Classic league. Be in to have some fun! All welcome. See details below in 1st August news.

1 August TCU scored two good goals, one after just two minutes. Rangers defended strongly and created some chances too. Jaiden player of the day. Read the report.
Any Rangers players or supporters want to join our EPL Fantasy League? Go to http://fantasy.premierleague.com/, get registered, Join the Rangers Classic League (private), its code is 1162492-283691. . Be quick the League starts next weekend!

30 July The full moon shines down on the Rangers boys (and 4 girls) training in the frost. Luckily Matt has brought his gas brazier for everyone to huddle around and sample Wetts' home brew afterwards. This is the life.

28 July The new draw is out for the Bay Womens league. Rangers women are away to Rotorua White this Sunday. The rest of the draw is on our Rangers results page and BOP results page. The Opotiki game will be played at Opo since we played them here in the first round.

26 July Rangers women had a great physical battle with Kawerau today. Kawerau won 4 - 1 in the end, but Rangers gave as good as they got. Jenny was player of the day. Great to see Kate Simons have a run, a good debut from young Taryn Tazza Forbes. Here's the report. Let's hope the new split league comes out quickly this week so there are no more weekends with no games. Here are some pics of the half time talk. What is Cassidy laughing about?! There are also some fab photos on the Pitbull Photography web site.

25 July Rangers men deservedly won on penalties in the BS Bowl semifinal away to Otumoetai today. Rangers had a Muggsy goal disallowed and were reduced to ten men for the last 40 minutes after our 3rd sub Levi Riri was felled with a ball to the head, but hung on to a 1 - 1 draw after extra time and won the shoot out. Wett saved two pens and, despite the "shittest penalties ever seen", had won the shoot out after four penalties. Jordan player of the day and Andy won the prize for the best penalty celebration! Read the report. Have a look at photo of the week!

20 July Good luck to Michel and Margaret Nillesen on their trip away. Richie Nillesen will be coaching Rangers women in the mean time. Welcome back Richie!
Our trusty SLH Contracting van is not available this Saturday. We will have to make other transport arrangements! It's a 12 noon start in Tauranga, so quite a few other arrangements might be needed too! Get organised everyone! This is our chance to play in a trophy final. Let's do it!

19 July Rangers men's game with TCU was postponed at the last minute after a torrential downpour and high winds stormed through Awakeri on Saturday, wrecking one of Rangers new gazebos in the process. On Sunday a great start for Rangers women with a goal to young Cassidy Spillman after Janie Soutar had hit the post twice! However Te Puke were too good in the end. Here's the report.

17 July Some changes for men's games.... BS Bowl semi final has now been brought forward to next Sat 25th, at Otumoetai. Federation trying to reschedule catch up game v Kawerau to Aug 1st. Hopefully they are successful!
Pretty awesome photos in Tuesday's Beacon!!

12 July Rangers women did well, turning around a 4 - 0 loss last weekend to hold Opotiki to a 0 - 0 draw today. The team was player of the day, with Ranee in top form. Here's a report. Watch out for pics in the Beacon.

9 July The hoodies arrived at training tonight. Just as well, it was a very cold night. Chris presented the College boys with theirs, unexpectedly! Most amusement came from people trying to figure out what C.F.C. stood for on the back of Chris's hoodie. Most guesses were unprintable! Of course those who remember that Chris wears a John Terry shirt can probably work out the true answer. Also Mumma Joe's hoodie for her daughter that was misspelt Tartless drew a few comments!
Bowl semifinal on 1st August may now be at Otumoetai, rather than Awakeri. We will be advised.

7 July Club meeting cancelled. Good luck to our women on Sunday in their first competitive game for six weeks!
Even though Rangers women have had some hidings in the past, they pale into insignificance compared to the thrashings Micronesia have had in the Oceania Cup this week. 30 - 0, 36 - 0 and 46 - 0 to Vanuatu today! More than a goal every two minutes!

4 July A depleted Rangers team traveled to Papamoa. After half an hour of solid defence, Papamoa got lucky a couple of times and had a 3 - 0 lead at half time. Rangers did better in the second half but ended up losing 4 - 0. Matt Dalgity player of the day, closely followed by Petir Gray.

30 June According to the Fed web site Rangers men play Otumoetai in the BS Bowl semi final on August 1st, with at this stage no games scheduled for July 11th and 25th. We are trying to confirm this or to see if the draws will be rescheduled. This would have to be the most disjointed season in history!

29 June Rangers' women's game with Opotiki on July 12th has, at their request, been changed to a home game. Lots of hoodie orders have been taken. Hopefully they will be done and ready in the next two weeks.

28 June Club meeting coming up on Wed 8 July, after women's training.
Today our women played well in a friendly against Opotiki, going down 4 - 0 in the end. Good to see Julie Reihana, Mishka Barry and Kate Simon back on the pitch. Check out these photos of the Rangers Women in their new strip!

27 June Rangers are through to the next round of the Bowl after a 2 - 0 win at Opotiki. Wett player of the day. Here's the report. Here are some cool photos (courtesy of Pete).

24 June An Opotiki weekend! On Saturday Rangers men are at Opotiki, 2pm kick off in the Bowl, while on Sunday Rangers women have a friendly against Opotiki at home at 10.30am. Remember, last day for hoodie orders is Friday. Money up front! See below (in bold). Also.... subs need to be paid too.

21 June At last, our new colours have a goal scored in them, after Jaiden and Jamaal hit the woodwork, Muggsy scored with a wind assisted header. Sadly though, a 3 - 1 loss at windy Blake Park. The report.

13 June Rangers men lost 1 - 0 at home to Rotorua. A good second half wasn't enough to earn the points. Bazza player of the day. Click here for some good photos (thanks Matthew). Here's the report.

12 June Orders are now being taken for the new club hoodies. They are black. $35 for adults, $30 for kids sizes. You need to give Barrie, Margaret or Ranee your money along with style (zip or no zip), size (XL, L, M, S), and name for the back of your hoodie (e.g. Your Name / Nickname). Deadline for order (with money) is Friday 26 June. Hoodies available for players, supporters, family members etc.
Can also be paid for by internet banking, our account is 01-0310-0056958-00. Make sure you give us the required details.
Entertaining game on the big screen after men's training last night. The arm chair experts all had their say! Portugal impressive, Junior All Whites looked good for a while in the second half.

4 June Men's training indoors was pretty hard out. Fun, exhausting, physical, 2 hours of good football.
No game this weekend. The postponed Cup game against Tauranga City will be played on Sunday 21st at Blake Park, Mt Maunganui, early kick off 12.30pm.

1 June Heavy rain and surface water caused the postponement of today's Bay Two game against Kawerau Sports.
Check out the new strip on photo of the week.

30 May Rangers did christen their new strip with a good performance, but sadly, a sloppy goal conceded and no luck in front of goal meant a 1 - 0 loss at Old Blues. Ali player of the day. Ronnie the winner of the punchbag contest at the aftermatch. Here's the report.

28 May Is your weekend not full enough with football already? Game on Saturday, game on Monday, but also.... excellent U20 games in Hamilton on Sunday too. Qatar v Colombia and Portugal v Senegal. The best long weekend ever?!
Lets hope Rangers christen their new strip with a great performance on Saturday at the Wharepai Domain. Early kick off. SLH van leaves Awakeri at 10.25am

23 May A trip to Tauranga to find that the field is deemed unsafe. Game postponed. A trip to the Te Puke pub.

The new strips for mens and womens teams are due to arrive at the start of next week. Men will keep the yellow and blue as their change strip, while the women will have the dark green strip for their change strip. Gazebos are being purchased for the sideline shelters. We have agreed to go ahead and organise hoody sweatshirts for club members and associates. Orders will be taken as soon as the price is confirmed. Rangers women can't rake up enough players for the trip to Taupo this weekend and have had to default, sadly.
Congratulations to Ben McPherson and partner on the arrival of a baby girl.

17 May Rangers men lost at home yesterday to league leaders Taupo, although the 0 - 3 loss didn't reflect some good football played by Rangers. Here's the report. Mike player of the day. Today, Rangers women put up a fight against Whakatane but no goals. The report.
Remember, meeting after women's training this Wednesday! 7.30. Men and women welcome!!

11 May There's quite a bit of voting on our fun poll. Leading in some of the stats are: Muggsy's tattoo, cricket, Rangers women one vote ahead of Rangers old fullas, soccer being perfect, and Cassidy! Now you'll have to have your say!

10 May Rangers women had an unlucky number at Papamoa today.... 13. Read the report. Janie player of the day.

9 May A poor ten minutes in the first half cost Rangers at Ngongotaha. The home team used the wind to grab a 2 goal lead. Later Rangers started playing football, and got it back to 2 - 1. A counter attack early in the second half saw Ngongy grab the win 3 - 1. Mark Jeynes player of the day. Here's the report.

8 May A reminder...
Subs are due by the end of May. Pay Barrie or our internet banking number is 01-0310-0056958-00

5 May The Phoenix's limp exit from the A League play offs will leave fans like Matt and Bazza downcast, although Chris will be on a high after Chelsea were cowned EPL champions. A couple of positive messages in our Guestbook, including one from our globetrotting coach! Have a read! Our fun poll is updated too. Have your say!!

3 May Rangers women put in a very determined display to earn their first point of the season with a 0 - 0 draw with Rotorua Utd White. Sarah Boyce player of the day. Here's the report.

26 April Congrats to Kawerau Sports (who signed Rangers player of the year Kirk Bain at the last minute) who beat Papatoetoe on penalties in the Chatham Cup after a 0 - 0 draw. An amazing score where Ngongy beat Colo Boys 17 - 0 as well!
A disappointing result for the Phoenix who lost 2 - 1 to Sydney after missing a penalty. Still they are in the play offs next week. At home to Melbourne City on Sunday.

**Rangers men are training on Friday night this week, 6pm!!

18 April Rangers have finally got their hands on the Sponsors Cup!! Today's 0 - 0 draw with Whakatane doubled as a cup challenge. While Rangers should have finished the game off by taking one of their chances during the game, it came down to penalties. Jimmy, Matt and Ben scored for Rangers, while Wett saved two of theirs, for a 3 - 1 win. Matt player of the day. Lovely feed afterwards. Click here for a few photos of the Cup success. Here's the Match report, although it doesn't tell of how Mark managed to flatted Wett, or how many shots were blocked after we got a free kick five metres from goal. Photos to come.
Good luck to Rangers women in their first outing, also at Otumoetai, tomorrow.

The Federation are sounding clubs out about whether to combine Men's Bay one and two, or just leave things as they are. We have voted to leave things alone, so Bay 1 would have three rounds. Bay 2 would have one round and then split into top and bottom. Clubs need to let the Fed know their feelings by tomorrow 10am. If there was to be a redraw it would come out later that day.
Good news too that Alignments Plus Ltd are back on board as a sponsor agin this season. A big thank you Raven and Leon!

7 April A depressing game from the Phoenix for the second week in a row. However, Rangers are gearing up for the season openers this weekend. Oi Oi Rangers!
Looks like BOP div one is down to six teams, with Rotorua Utd withdrawing.

2 April Another hard out training last night. Well done to coach Wetts for putting the acid on everyone. His determination is rubbing off! Not long till the season kicks off..... 9 days in fact!
Welcome to new sponsors SLH Contracting, courtesy of Chris Butler. SLH Contracting will be the naming rights sponsor of the men's team. Here is their web site.

29 March A massive turn out for Rangers men in friendly v Rotorua. 22 players altogether! Most people got a run, some not for long though. Constant showers kept the spectators damp. Two goals from Jaiden Ibbetson and one from Pat earned Rangers a 3 - 3 draw.
Here is Rangers draw so far. Our seasons start on April 11 and 12.

28 March A high scoring battle at Whakatane today, with an understrength Kawerau, led by ex-Rangers winger Cammy Wills, winning 7 - 4. A couple of Whakatane players went off injured. A tough start to the season for them.

25 March Looked like a good strong turn out at training tonight. Check out the Photo of the week for a shot of our tournament team that got 3rd place last weekend. Cheers Jenny (and Paige!).

22 March The preseason game this weekend might well be on the Sunday, possibly at midday. Details to be confirmed. The Phoenix had another great win tonight even though it was rained off after 70 min. They go four points clear at the top of the A League. Nathan Burns in scintilating form.

21 March An entertaining day at the tournament. Rangers were happy to win 3rd place. Good to see our two Gisborne players there: Olivia and Jenny. They are looking at playing for Rangers women again this season. Perhaps the longest traveling players in New Zealand! They probably won't make training nights though!

19 March This Saturday Rangers have a team in the 7 aside mixed tournament in Whakatane, raising money for the Chase Topperwein foundation. Kick off at 10 am, be there 930am.

Welcome back to past players Jordan Ogilvy and Mark Jeynes, plus a number of new men and women, plus some energetic young fullas from Edgecumbe College.
Coming up is the WaiBOP BOP leagues meeting. Next Wednesday (11th) at Sport BOP in Tauranga, 7.15pm. Unfortunately it clashes with training. So far 6 entries are in for Bay One men and eleven for Bay Two. Eight women's teams are entered for Bay One, including a team from Opotiki College.

1 March Mens and womens teams entered in league. Yay we have a women's team! New players for both teams still welcome. Just turn up at Awakeri Wednesday 6pm. Superb performance by the Phoenix tonight, beating Melbourne Victory away for the first time. Congratulations to ex-Rangers player Adam Barkla, who married Maria on Saturday. Several ex -Rangers players back in town for the wedding.

17 February Sunday's Events Centre working bee was very successful, lots accomplished. Well done to Chris Butler for waterblasting for over three hours! The deck is now glowing!
All welcome to our preseason kick arounds at Awakeri, Wednesdays 6pm. Men, women, high school students. Ignore the cricket being played on the pitch and come join us!

12 February. Meeting last night pushed ahead with charity grant applications for new strips for men and women. Lots of exciting strip possibilities under discussion!
Our women have 10 players, and need another 6 or so to safely enter a team. Anyone keen... contact Margaret 3084361or email us. We have to have numbers by deadline of 25th Feb.
Excitement is building for the Under 20s World Cup in NZ. Planning a Rangers bus trip to Hamilton for a double header either 31 May or 6 June.

6 February Quite a good turn out on Wednesday, but more players still welcome. Club meeting to follow training this Wed.
Working bee at Events Centre Sunday 15th at 9 am.

29 January Preseason trainings Wednesdays, 6 pm at Awakeri. All welcome! Men, women, senior high school students. Welcome welcome! Get out those boots or sneakers. Bring a water bottle. Quite likely socialising afterwards. Come and check us out. More info text Barrie 0274637791 or email or ring Margaret 3084361. Rangers play in BOP leagues.
Sponsors welcome too.

6 January 2015 Happy New Year!! Phoenix fans will have had a very good last week, with the Nix getting 3 wins and climbing to 2nd on the table, even without their two main strike weapons. A great send off to Jeremy Brockie in Wellington on Sunday, when he scored twice. He's off to Super Sports in South Africa. Over 10 thousand gave him and the team a standing ovation, lots of chants etc. Now the A League has three weeks off while the Asian Cup is played in Australia.

There is lots of fascinating news and trivia from 2013 - 14, 2008 - 2012, 2007-06, 2005, 2004, 2003 and 2002 and beyond. Have a read!
