Plains Rangers AFC

25 August 2018
Tauranga City One 0, Plains Rangers men 1

Rangers had a very different line up this week. Midfielders at centre back, Wingers as defenders and a different structure to boot.
The game started with an early attempt on goal by the Rangers, Chris Butler got his head to the ball but the goalie knocked it away for our first corner of the game.
Sam Christenson had some good runs up front but take many shots on goal
The first half was quite even with both teams having the odd chance to go ahead, however it stayed 0-0 at halftime

There were 3 substitutions at the half, with 2 new strikers and a reshuffle in midfield
The next 30 minutes were mostly controlled by Rangers
Holding position and having at least two one on ones with the opposition keeper
The Rangers were awarded a much deserved penalty for hand ball in the 18 yard box, in this period
Much to the delight of the spectators the Rangers goalie Christian Wetting came out of his goal to take the penalty
He smashed a low left shot in to the net and left the goalie stretched out on the ground to the right hand side
The ignited the Tauranga side and they came back with multiple shots on goal in the last part of the second half
With Wetts saving with a tip over the cross bar and another shot skimming off it again
Tauranga did get the ball in the net but it was not awarded
They were not happy when they had their goal disallowed due to the ball going out just before the shot was taken
The referee had signaled for the 'out' but blew his whistle after the ball went in to the goal
The linesman's flag was up before the goal, so they had little reason to complain
Rangers were relieved when the final whistle blew and took the 0-1 away win

POD Hamish Wilde
Highly commended was Ryan Elliot with heaps of attacking runs up the wing
