SLH Contracting Plains Rangers women travelled to play Ngongotaha in the Bay Bowl on Sunday with only eleven players. Rangers put in an excellent effort in the first half. Both teams created a lot of chances but couldn't finish them off. The score was 0 - 0 at half time.
Kiahli Ibbetson opened the scoring for Rangers after the break, converting one of her chances. However, tiring legs and no subs gradually gave the home team more opportunities. They equalised, then drew ahead. In the final seconds an unlucky penalty was awarded against Rangers' defender Sarah Boyce, when she put up her hand to protect her face, bringing the score to 3 - 1 to Ngongotaha. The score was far more comfortable than it looked.
Saskia Scaddan was selected as player of the day for Rangers, but the other ten players had also played their hearts out.
Plains Rangers men had their rescheduled game against Katikati postponed due to pitch conditions.
This weekend, Rangers men are at home to Ngongotaha, kick off 2pm, while Rangers women are away to Papamoa with a 1pm start.
