12 Dec 2022 The first ever home double header coming up for the Phoenix this Saturday, Nix men play Adelaide at 3pm, and Nix Women play Adelaide at 5.40pm. Should be fun!
Not so fun are the Rangers links to the FIFA World Cup semi finals this week. England are out, the Dutch are out. No connections with Morocco, France or Croatia that we are aware of. Ex-Ranger Juan Propato is a keen Argentina fan. Good luck Juan!
4 Dec Despite all the downsides of the FIFA World Cup being played in Qatar, the tournament has produced superb football, upsets, quality goals so far. Now down to the last 16 teams. Aussie were beaten 2 - 1 by Argentina this morning, Netherlands are through, England on the line tomorrow against Senegal, surprise packages South Korea, Morocco, Japan have their knock out games in the next two days. Enthralling stuff!
20 Nov Phoenix women have their first ever home game and set a non-finals attendance record of just over 5000. Melb City were too strong in second half, winning 4 - 1. Ava Pritchard the scorer. Check out our Phoenix pages.
13 Nov An awful last twenty minutes sees the Nix blow a 2 - 0 lead plus a missed pen to lose in added time 3 - 2 to last year's champs Western Utd. World Cup time for the next month now.
6 Nov A very good second half in Welly gave the Nix their first win of the season. Meanwhile, Chris Butler leads our Fantasy League, by a healthy 60 points.
30 Oct A remarkable comeback by the Nix away to champions Melbourne City to draw 2 - 2. Check out our Nix pages.
14 Oct Rangers team photos are on our website, finally. Also check out Photo of the Week for a couple of prizegiving pics.
10 Oct The Phoenix kicked off their A League season with a hard earned 1 - 1 draw against Adelaide in Wellington. Bazza was among 8400 fans who saw Brazilian Yan Sasse red carded for a dangerous tackle after 25 min. The Nix had some good openings in the second half after stout defence. Just after Jezza had yelled from the stands to the players "We want to take our shirts off!" the Waine Train scored, the crowd went wild (!) and it looked like a Nix win. However, the visitors scored in added time with a shot at the far post. Check out our Nix page.

Whakatane have defaulted their game against Ots Special Reserve tomorrow, gifting them the league championship. Pap United will be gutted. A sad way to have it decided.
29 Aug Rangers men produced a very gutsy effort, again missing quite a few players, including Wetts, Jon, Earle, Levi, Elijah, Matt, Chris, Peter, Kobi, Hus, Edison, Agustin, Bazza ... to draw 1 - 1 with league leaders Pap United. Even better considering Phil went off with a serious foot injury in the first half. A super free kick from captain Jimmy evened the scores up. A good day... Dave Taylor even rescinded Hamish's yellow card! Rangers have now opened the chance for Otu Special Reserve to win the league if they can beat Whakatane in a catch up game! Read the report (thanks Hamish!).
Wellington Phoenix have an Australia Cup quarter final aginst Macarthur FC on Wednesday night, 9.30. Here is the link to watch it.
21 Aug Rangers women almost shocked Whakatane in the first minutes, before eventually going down in an entertaining game. Ranee named the whole team players of the day, congratulations to Ranee and team on a fine season back in the league. A credit to you all. Here's the report.
20 Aug Rangers were missing 9 players today including 5 probable starters, meaning some of the regular starters had to play in unfamiliar positions, against Otumoetai Special Reserve. Rangers conceded early but then held their own for 40 min. However. two late goals in the first half led to an eventual 5 - 0 loss. Player of the day Jon, who was great in defence. Top games too from Mackem filling in in goal, Phil, filling in in midfield, Levi, filling in in left back and the never-say-die Sione. Great to see some players who don't usually get on the pitch survive quite a few minutes! Here's the report.
17 Aug The Phoenix knocked last year's league winners Melbourne City out of the Australia Cup tonight, goals to Kosta and Waino. Into the quarter finals.
14 Aug Rangers women had a tough last home game, losing 7 - 0 to Te Puke. Tracey player of the day in goal. Read the report.
13 Aug Rangers had a tough battle with Taupo in the first game of the Top 4 round. Captain Jimmy was away on holiday. Sione scored early, Taupo scored in the second half. A 1 - 1 draw. Mackem was superb in defence, player of the day. Here's the report.
9 Aug In a very strange decision, the Federation has left Bay Two catch up games till after the split rounds, thereby leaving some teams (e.g. Whakatane) in groups that they perhaps should not have been in! Why didn't they give teams one week to play all catch ups?
The official split draw is out. The league has been split into four groups of four, with points carried through. In the Top Four, Rangers play Taupo this weekend, Otu Special on the 20th and Pap United on the 27th.
7 Aug What a good weekend! Rangers women had a good 2 - 0 win at Otumoetai. Goals to Lexi and Danielle, who was also player of the day. Read the report ( and Ranee's report too).
6 Aug Rangers men knocked over previously unbeaten Papamoa United 2 - 1 today to extend their winning streak to eight in a row. Jimmy scored a deflected shot in the first half before Sione added a goal late in the game. Papamoa then hit the bar and scored in a frantic last fifteen minutes. Pete was player of the day for his player juggling skills. Check out Sione being naughty on Photo of the week (link to the right). Here's the report. (It doesn't mention Sione's behaviour or the eating of KFC at half time).
3 Aug The Phoenix have a very good 4 - 0 win to go through to the next round of the cup. The Waine train steams on!
2 Aug The Phoenix have their first game of the new season tomorrow night, an Australia Cup game in Tasmania against Devonport Strikers. It's at 9.30pm on You Tube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGmBw2gMdfc.
31 July Rangers women were at home today, with quite a few spectators watching, enjoying the fine, if windy, conditions. Ranee's report:
Us VS Papamoa Legends,
0 - 6
Well, I must say it was nice to have three subs today ladies.
Great game played by all; the wind didn't help us much. Our passing game is getting strong. We just need to make sure all our passes count and stopping of the ball as well. The first half we spent a lot of time playing in our own half. However, we did hold them out for 20 minutes before they got a goal. We had few moments where we watched the ball hoping it would come to us, next time we won't wait for the ball we will move to the ball. The second half was a better half, our play was flowing more, we moved more and shut down their play faster.
Danielle Haldane magnificent work in the centre mids today finding that space and passing/moving to those spots.
Dani Howard great game in the back line and putting your body on the line as well.
Sarah Wigzell great game today. Hope the tummy not too sore after the ball to it.
Player of the day goes to Julie Reihana. Once again another great game, you were in the action all the time and not letting them get away with the ball.
See you all at training Wednesday night.
30 July Rangers men made harder work of their win against Omokoroa than it might have been. 4 - 1 in the end (Waibop's website has it 3 - 1 and will change it no doubt). Goals to player of the day Phil (2), Jimmy and Elijah. Here's the report. Well done too to referee Darren Beattie, who travelled two hours from Taupo to do a fine job in the middle.
28 July The draw for the men's next A League season is out, with lots of home games for the Nix early in the season. First game Sunday October 9th against Adelaide. You don't have to wait that long though, because the Nix have an Australia Cup game next Wednesday evening. It'll be on You Tube. The Nix draw
25 July Rangers men's game against Fury this Saturday has been reversed and is now a home game for Rangers, because some idiot vandalised Fury's pitch at Omokoroa. Sad!
Papamoa Old Boys have now knocked Juggernauts out of the top four with their win. Unfortunately not many people know it because Pap Old Boys are slack at putting their results in to the Federation and still haven't got last week's win registered yet! Our results and tables pages are (by some miracle and trawling through facebook posts ) more up to date!
24 July Rangers women had to call on coach Ranee to play on the field again. Here's her report:
Us VS Papamoa Icons, 0- 2
It's was a cold windy wet day in Papamoa today, but we didn't let that stop us from playing a really good game of soccer today. Well done ladies on another great game of soccer, our passing game is great to watch and I saw some triangles that got made around the Papamoa players and they didn't quite know what to make of it. The wind didn't help with the play of the game but keeping the ball on the ground helped us out. Once again losing two players on way to game doesn't help us.
Thank you Paige Pullar for playing in goal for us today. You had a great game and saved some great shots.
Julie Reihana you had a great game of soccer, you were all over the field with great running passing and just everything.
Player of the day goes to Amie Morris. You start the team off on the passing and moving the ball and play around on the field and had some shots on goal as well. Week in week out you've played great games, well done.
Well done ladies on today's efforts, keep it up. See you all at training Wednesday night.
23 July A dramatic battle between Rangers and Tauranga City Juggernauts ended in a 1 - 0 win to Rangers. Phil was the scorer, Wetts player of the day after saving a penalty. The woodwork and a disallowed goal all played their parts. Here's the report.
17 July Rangers women had a tough day out. Here's Ranee's report:
Us VS Tga Blue Rovers, 0 - 9
Well ladies the morning didn't start off right for us with the strip turning up late and 2 ladies pulling out at last minute.
However we held our heads high and we carried on and played the game.
You should all be proud of yourselves today with never giving up and staying positive.
Our first 20 minutes we were a bit slow off the mark however we found our stride and played our game and we held them out for the rest of the first half. In the second half we held them out they got a couple past us but we shook it off and carried on, we just got a bit tired in the last few minutes of the game.
We received a great comment from the Tauranga coach about the great passing game we have and how much we have improved from when we first played them to now, and that is all down to our trainings, keep it up ladies.
I'd also like to mention our passing game. It's looking spectacular to watch and with that we are getting the ball up the field and having chances on the goal. Instead of kick and run and hope for the best.
It was a well fought 90 minute game. We are making big improvements from every game we have played so far, you should all be proud, keep it up ladies.
Lots of good talking on the field as well.
Lexi Pullar another great game, just leave players' noses and legs/ankles alone lol. Nice work with your passing and picking up and chasing back, you had a great game in the centre mids.
Shannon Frost great game on the wing and holding your own and passing the ball up and around.
Acacia Wakefield another great game in the back again.
Danielle Haldane you also had a great game. You had a couple of knocks but you got up and carried on and got to every ball that you could.
Someone (won't mention a name) took their gear along for shits and giggles today, thinking they'll be right they won't need it lol. Hello, they ended up playing. We will see how sore I am tomorrow!
Player of the day goes to Rebekah Johansen. Well done mate on your game today, getting into there and going hard, stopping balls, running with the ball up the field, I think a little bit of pushing involved today. Well deserved.
Thank you for the ones that played today. Thank you Jason for being the stand-in Coach today.
Rest up and see you all at training Wednesday night.
16 July Rangers men played very well, controlling a lot of the play at Tauranga City. Goals to Phil and Jimmy. Sione player of the day. A 2 - 0 win. Read the report. Sorry, not included: trees across the Matata Straights having to be sawn up so some people could get through (Chris helped clear the road), Sione's still-red hair ("they said it would come out after ten washes"), Matt finally getting to the game (it was before half time) but at least he had a chilly bin of beer, Chris getting a good run at right half, Carl getting another injury, Jimmy sneaking ahead in the golden boot race, Shane-o winning lots of foot races with his quick opponent, Phil "I'm never going to score this season" getting another goal...
15 July Pics of the women's game were in today's Beacon (Stevie, TJ and Katie), along with an interview with coach Ranee and the write-up of last week's men's win at Taupo.
Sad to see a number of games not being played this weekend - teams defaulting and having to postpone games. Hopefully the rest of the fixtures go ahead. Want to watch some A League v Premier League tonight? Melbourne Victory take on Man United, kick off at 10pm. It's live on Spark Sport. A pre-season game for both clubs.
10 July Rangers women had a good battle with Lakes today. Nice to get a goal. Player of the day Stevie did well, got winded, did enough play acting to get subbed off for a rest. Look for pics of the game in the Beacon. Barrie's version of the report.
Ranee's report: Us VS Lakes,
1-4
Great day for a game of soccer, little sun, little cloud no rain.
You all had a great game of soccer today the game was great to watch with the passes going back then going wide then heading up the field. We had so much game time in the other half.
Big thank you to Paige Pullar for being our goal today much appreciated.
Nice work on the wing Shannon Frost and never giving up as well.
Amie Morris nice work in the centre back and mids.
Tayla Jones good to have you back on the field even if you weren't 100%.
Player of the day goes to Stevie Clarke with all her practice corners till one finally paid off and we got a goal, nice wotk on all the corner kicks and you work in the centre mids.
Nice work Acacia Wakefield and Danielle Haldane with working together and getting a goal for the team.
Nice goal Danielle.
See you all at training Wednesday night.
8 July Unfortunately, Otumoetai have had to default their game against Rangers men tomorow, with sickness and unavailability leaving them with few players.
5 July Some Phoenix news, the men started pre-season training yesterday. Their key dates are 3 August Australia Cup game in Tasmania. Men's A League starts Oct 7, breaks for World Cup between Nov 18 and Dec 8. Women's A League starts Nov 18.
3 July Rangers women went down to a good Tauranga City team 0 - 6 today. Here is Ranee's report:
Us vs Tauranga City, 0-6
Sad end to the game ladies with our player leaving in an ambulance. Hope all is well Dani.
Well it was a cold start to the day but the sun was shining bright.
We had an amazing first half with no goals going in until the last seconds lol.
Second half we lost momentum however we did have our moments when it all fell into place for us. We managed a few shots on goal. When we got our passes working it was great to watch. We need to work on our communications during the game.
We kept our heads high and kept playing the game even though we had only one sub.
Amy Maybe Hayes nice work on the wing today, you had a great game.
Nice penalty save today Tracey Buckley.
Player of the day goes to Acacia Wakefield. You had a amazing game in the back line today. You are using everything you learnt at training on the field and it's working for you, keep it up.
Well done ladies on the game today. See you all at training Wednesday night.
2 July Rangers continued their great run of form, coming back from being 2 - 0 down at Taupo to grab a late 4 - 3 win, despite injuries - blood being spilt by Mish and Carl, Sione's shoulder getting dislocated, Elijah and Pete limping off - and players unavailable. Goals to Jimmy, Elijah, Hamish and an unlucky own goal. Bazza player of the day! Read the report.
27 June Read Chris's report from the fine win against Whakatane on Saturday. The Sponsors Cup comes home! Elijah and Earle the scorers, Jon player of the day.
19 June Read the report from yesterday's game.
18 June Rangers started well and finished well in their game at Papamoa today, earning a 6 - 1 win. Jimmy Hart 3 goals, Hamish 2 and Elijah 1. Report to come. Will it include Teimana getting flattened by a flying-elbows-up defender ( and the ensuing discussion about whether yellow cards will ever be issued when the ref does not carry cards), Makem breathing on his opponent which earned a penalty, Bazza making an appearance as striker, Sione's new boots or Hamish playing while 'dusty'?
16 June Some very nice football and combinations at training tonight. The far goal, under the influence of the rising full moon, worked as an extra defender, stopping many shots at goal with its crossbar and posts and deflecting some close range shots over the bar. All aboard for the visit to Papamoa NKOTB, for a 1pm kick off on Saturday.
Sadly Rangers women, affected by covid and sickness, have had to default their game at home to Whakatane Town on Sunday.
Even sadder, NZ's loss to Costa Rica in the World Cup qualifier yesterday, virtue of refereeing decisions, despite being the dominant team.
12 June Rangers women did not have one of their better days at Te Puke, losing 9 - 0 in the end. Dani player of the day. They did not have it so bad as Rotorua United in the men, who lost a staggering 18 - 0 to Otumoetai Special Reserve yesterday!
Ranee's report:
Us vs Te Puke
0 - 9
From the thunder and lightning this morning to a heavy down poor's of rain on the way to the game, the big question was "Are we were still playing?"
We played and it was a tough game for us, however we played till the end and kept our heads up.
The first 15 minutes wasn't our finest, however we did find ourselves and started playing our game in the last 25 minutes in first half. It was the same for the second half as well.
Sarah Wigzell I checked in with you at the 30 minute mark, you were all good. Big well done on playing your first full game.
Tayla Jones nice work today. Your passing and running was nice work to watch.
Alexaan-Kelly Puutu Dredge every spot on the field we played you, you played great. You've got the speed, the passing and the turns.
Katie Peterson you kept up a good fight on the wing even when you and the Te Puke player had your moment.
Jamie Stanton rest up and take it easy. You were having a great game too. Between you and Stevie Clarke you were both doing great clearing of the ball.
Player of the day goes to Dani Howard. Big thank you for playing in goal in the second half today. What a great game you had in there and the sprint backs you had to do in the first half. There were a few of them!
The ref we had today- Chris Marlowe- was one of the best we have had. He did a great job reffing, very fair and great communication.
Thanks ladies for today, we will move onto bigger and better things this week. See you all at training Wednesday night.
11 June Rangers men had a strong first half, led 1 - 0, thanks to Earle's cool finish. Papamoa blitzed us straight after half time to lead 2 - 1, then Phil got sent off. We traded goals, with Jimmy getting one, but Papamoa won 3 - 2. Jimmy player of the day. Read the report. Impressed with young ref Liam Dooley's performance in the middle. Unimpressed with some rugby spectators doing wheel spins in the mud on their way out of the grounds.
10 June Rangers men had a good work out last night in prep for the clash with Pap Old Boys tomorrow. Old Boys have won the last three meetings with close scores. We have Liam Dooley appointed for our ref tomorrow. Let's make sure it is an easy game for him to referee. Thanks to Hamish for putting the lineup professionally on our facebook page.
Another interesting fixture in our division is the Papamoa United v Whakatane clash tomorrow.
6 June Papamoa are the only BOP team left in the Chatham Cup (check out the results on our BOP draw, results page), having survived three rounds, beating Papatoetoe, Ellerslie and today Claudelands Rovers.
3 June Somehow, the Beacon managed to mis-print our women's team's result as a 4 - 1 loss, and only printed the write up of one of our goals, so Stevie's hat-trick didn't get a mention. If you want to read what we sent in to them, click here!
1 June A reminder that subs were due at the end of May. Players need to have paid all or part subs by now. Full fees are $195, with youth fees $100.
Full or part payments can be given to Barrie at trainings or via internet banking to 01-0310-0056958-00 (make sure you reference your name!). If you register, you have to pay the subs. We also have a social sub of $50 for people who don't want to play, but want to be club members.
29 May Rangers women turned it on today with some great passing and even better goals than the men. Outstanding hat-trick by Stevie Clarke. Katie Peterson the other goal and Shannon Frost player of the day. A 4 - 1 win. Read Barrie's report.
Here are Ranee's notes:
Us vs Otumoetai, 4 - 1
Well what a game ladies, proud of you today. It was a tough game but you all hang in there till the end and look at the result we got.
From sun to rain to wind to Barrie going on the field to pick up dog poop, to Katie Peterson trying to knock opposition over but falling over herself, we had it all!
Our passing today ladies was the best I've seen so far. You were knocking it around their players like nobody's business. It was great to watch and nice through balls happening as well.
Thank you Jamie Stanton for taking a couple of hours off work to come play today.
Well done to Stevie Clarke for getting a hat-trick of goals today and Katie for your goal as well.
Alexaan-Kelly Puutu Dredge you had an awesome game in mids and wing. Your speed, your passing, your attacking... it was great to watch.
Amie Morris you had a great game today passing and moving that ball around in the mid field, and if I remember correctly you had a couple of shots on goal as well.
Lexi Pullar you had a good game in the back line, taking the ball wide and getting it up the line today.
Chloe Burgess you also had a great game in the centre backs from being first to the ball to doing great stops and defending that line well.
Player of the day goes to Shannon Frost today. You had a great game on the wing, from your passing to attacking and your run with the ball up the line was great to watch. What made it great to watch was laughing at the Otumoetai player trying to push you off the ball. You never gave up. Well done Shannon.
Thank you for today ladies. See you all at training Wednesday night.
28 May Rangers men win 3 - 0 at Tauranga City, not playing quite so well as last week, but goals to Wetts (from 25 m), player of the day Russell and Hamish. Hamish had cause to celebrate, winning a bet with the unlucky linesman Earle by scoring with his right foot volley! Two more assists by the in-form Levi. Tauranga City mixed things up by having three different people have turns at refereeing. Good to see Sam today too. Read the report.
A couple of big games to watch: The A League grand final tonight Melb City v Western Utd, the Champions League tomorrow morning (Spark Sport) Liverpool v Real. Tomorrow also Rangers women are at home to Otumoetai. Go along and support. 12.30pm kick off.
22 May Rangers women went down to Papamoa Legends 4 - 1. Stevie was the scorer with Tayla player of the day.
Ranee's report:
US vs Papamoa Legends, 1 - 4
Between the sun and the wind, Ranee forgetting the goalie gloves and printing off the wrong team sheet and Alexaan-Kelly Puutu Dredge giving away a penalty kick, it really wasn't a bad game to watch today!
Well done ladies for hanging in there today, we had a few problems in the first half but they sorted themselves out in the second half and it showed in the score line. What you have all be learning at training has been paying off with the nice passing up the field, nice ball to feet action, some nice tackles as well, also some nice runs from the back line up the field.
Julie Reihana a pleasure having you on the field again today. Maria Puutu thank you for today as well. Also thanks to Rebekah Johansen for playing today.
Chloe Burgess you had a good game in the back line and as wing, lots of running and passing for you today. Amie Morris great game today in the centre mids, you did some great passing of the ball and you kept it all moving in the middle with passing and running up the field. Congratulations Stevie Clarke on the chase and follow goal today.
Player of the day goes to Tayla Jones first game out today. You had massive game with lots of running around, lots of passing and intercepting of passes between Papamoa players and taking the ball for runs. Well done today ladies proud of you all.
See you all at training Wednesday.
Oh Sarah Wigzell I still have your umbrella lol.
21 May Rangers men played their best game of the season today. Two superb goals from Earle, before he was red carded, then goals to player of the day Hamish, Levi and Teimana. Here's the report.
15 May Rangers women grabbed their first win today, a 3 - 0 result against Papamoa Icons. Player of the day Katie Peterson scored a hat-trick. Ranee's report:
Us vs Papamoa Icons, 3-0
A big well done ladies on the win today, you all had a massive game and played your hearts out and it showed in the end result with a win.
We did wonderful one two passing up the side of the field. Good clearing of the ball as well. We had some big knocks on the field, but we got up and carried on playing. Everything we have been learning in training is paying off in the games.
You should all be proud of yourselves today. Rest your injuries and niggles up.
Sarah Wigzell you had a good game today, nice stopping and clearing of the ball and your speed is improving every week.
Dani Howard another big game in the centre backs for you with a couple of runs up the field chucked in as well. Amy Maybe Hayes great first game.
Amie Morris great game you had in the midfield, great passing of the ball.
Alexaan-Kelly Puutu Dredge great to have you back on the field today, great game on the wing and in midfield.
Player of the day goes to Katie Peterson. What a game you had today, coming away with 3 goals for the win, keep it up Katie.
Once again ladies I'm very proud of you all today. You all played a great game. See you all at training Wednesday night.
14 May A first minute slip up was the main difference in the game today, with Rangers going down 1 - 0 to Otumoetai SR. Rangers defence had to be on their game as the home team pushed hard. Player of the day Ian Makem Gray was outstanding, closely followed by Shane Baillie and Earle Tuhimata. Read the report.
13 May Hopefully everyone survived Friday the 13th intact, and that Gunners fans recovered!
Excitement is building among Rangers Phoenix fans with the elimination final tomorrow night against Western United. It may be 6th v 3rd, but we are very hopeful! Rangers men had a good full on training last night. 8 v 8 of trying to outpass and outscore each other.
8 May Rangers women scored a goal in their loss to Blue Rovers. Yay Stevie Clarke. Ranee's report:
Us vs Tga Blue Rovers, 1-7
It was a very hard fought game today ladies with a few injuries as well. However, you all never gave up and you kept fighting the whole game, proud of our efforts today. Each week we keep improving on the field and it is showing with the great passing that was happening, that the ball was making it up the field. A few changes in our player lay out and you all adjusted to it well. The back line had a very tough game, with the runners coming down and through and crosses from Tauranga, however you made then fight for all the goals.
Poto Williams great game in the backs, you did some amazing 1 - 2 passes with the wings and mid field.
Danielle Haldane great game in the backs and up front.
Nikki Butler awesome effort up the front today, know to put the ball in the back of the net.
Stevie Clarke cracker of a game. Big effort up the front with lots of running, then to play in the backs and to score a goal. You did some hard work and it paid off. Must say first time I've seen you push another player with both hands front on!
Player of the day goes to Jamie Stanton. What a game you had in the centre mids. I didn't know you had a kick on you and you held that spot well and you kept going after the ball. Good passing and clearing from the middle of the field, well done.
Once again well-done ladies on today's game. Proud of you all. Rest up, take care of the injuries and see you all at training Wednesday night.
7 May Rangers let a 2 goal lead slip to have a 2 - 2 draw with Ngongotaha. Goals to Phil and Jimmy Hart. Earle player of the day. Here's the report.
6 May Yay, we have a ref for our game tomorrow! Some nice one touch football at training last night. Rushed home to watch a nervewracking Phoenix win 2 - 1 to get into the finals playoffs. Great entertainment, right down to Hooper and Piscopo wasting about three minutes at the end of the game, holding the ball at the sideline. Check out our Phoenix pages.
4 May A massive game for the Phoenix tomorrow night. 9pm kick off, so time to get home from training, have a shower and watch. If the Nix beat Western Sydney, they get into the finals playoffs with a game to spare.
Even though it's early in the season, some clubs / teams are not good at putting their results in to the Waibop results system. E.g. we hear that Papamoa Old Boys have had a win and a loss in their two league games, but on the table they have played 0, earning 0 points.
1 May Rangers women had a hard away game to Lakes FC today. Here is Ranee's report:
Us vs Lakes,
0 - 4.
Second game done and it was a tougher game today. We got put under a lot of pressure. Come the second half we changed our layout on the field. Our passes with ball to feet working well for us out wide and some good passes through balls to run on to was good to watch. We managed to get a few shots on goal but we had to work hard for them. We managed a couple of close moments in getting goals too. It was a very bunched game in the middle of the field, which made it hard to play the game. You all played amazing out there today. Tracey Buckley another great game in goal today. Lexi Pullar great game on the wing and you started getting hungry for the ball.
Amie Morris another great game in the centre mid, finding those passes out of the middle to our players to open up the game.
Sarah Wigzell nice game today with some great stops /blocks with the ball.
Player of the day goes to Dani Howard you had a wicked game, played most positions today apart from goalie and striker. You had a couple great runs up field with the ball and lots of running, passing blocking and defending.
See you ALL at training Wednesday.
30 April Rangers turned in a good second half to beat Otumoetai Extras 3 - 0. Rangers continued their trend of getting penalties each week, converting two. Goals to Hamish (2) and Phil. Player of the day Jon.
The report- will it include the game starting 12 min late, the search for corner flags, Hamish's run in with the first ref, Bazza's cameo, Brittany filming everything but the goals, Teimana's blisters? Probably not! Read it and find out.
24 April Rangers went down in a tight Miller Cup game to Papamoa Old Boys 2 - 1 yesterday. Wetts put away an early penalty, while Wetts Junior (Elijah) pulled off several great one-on-one saves in goal. Rangers couldn't capitalise on a couple of great chances. Teimana Awhimate and Jon Barnes stood out along with Elijah. Read the report.
TCU Relics were knocked out of the cup by Otumoetai Special Reserve, and there were a couple of big hidings. Check them out on our
BOP draw, results page.
Today the Nix hung on for a 1 - 0 win in Auckland against WSW. Lots of drama. Check out our Phoenix pages.
22 April Another good hard out training game on Thursday night. Sione was back to his bullocking best, Teimana finally found some boots that fitted him, Chris showed he can't be given time and space, Po showed her usual full commitment, Ash did some great runs, Agustin put in some super long passes.... Early kick off tomorrow.
14 April The Cup draw is out. Rangers are away to Papamoa Old Boys in the first round of the Miller Cup, on Anzac weekend. Check it out on our BOP draw page.
13 April The Phoenix grind their way to a 1 - 0 win against Perth and now head to NZ for two actual home games. Who is going to either Wellington and or Auckland to watch??
11 April The Bay Two draw has been updated, with two new teams added - Whakatane Town and Tauranga City New Blues. The addition of Whakatane Town means that the Sponsors Cup can be put at stake when Rangers meet their neighbours.
10 April Rangers women fielded a team (Yay!!!) against Tauranga City. Mind you they only had two subs, so if anyone is keen to join... Rangers played very well and were certainly competitive. Here is coach Ranee's report:
Us vs Tauranga City
0-3
What a great first game of the season ladies, proud of you all. I told you to go out and have fun and I hope you all did. Considering we haven't had a full team at training we played a great game. We did great passing of the ball around the field and moving for the ball. You should all be proud that we held them out for 34 minutes in the first half before they were able to score, the last two goals they got in the second half were very lucky goals for them. Stevie Clarke you had a brilliant game just unlucky in the goal scoring, however beautiful shot on goal. Tracey Buckley fantastic goalie work today you had a banging game. I feel like I could mention all your names cause you all had a great game today and all played your parts well. Player of the day goes to Alexaan-Kelly Puutu Dredge you had a brilliant game on the wing and also in the centre mids as well.
Thank you ladies for a great first game.
Rest up the muscles and take care of the blisters and see you all Wednesday night for training.
9 April Rangers' men's first game of the season, away at new club Lakes FC at the Rotorua International Stadium. Warm and sunny. A new formation didn't work too well defensively, with Rangers 3 - 0 down by half time. Reverting to a better known formation worked well, with goals to sub Russell Margan on debut, captain Jimmy Hart and a penalty by Christian Wetting to bring us back to 3 - 3. However a final minute misplaced pass from defence was pounced on by Lakes to grab a 4 - 3 win. Player of the day Shane Baillie. Here's the report.
The Phoenix grabbed a good win away at Western United 4 - 1.
8 April Some not so good local news. Kawerau Sports have withdrawn from mens football this year, and Whakatane Town have pulled their team out of the Federation league. Rangers welcomed new players to last night's training, gaining at our neighbours' expense. There are now two byes in BOP div two, as the Federation wait for a club (rumoured to be Whakatane) who will take up the space created by Old Blues withdrawing. Good luck to Rangers men's and women's teams for their season openers this weekend.
4 April The new season is about to start this coming weekend. Rangers men are away to Lakes FC at the Rotorua International Stadium, early kick off on Saturday, while Rangers women are at home to Tauranga City on Sunday.

21 March Waibop have decided on the Bay leagues set up. Two divisions of 12 teams, one round then a top six and bottom six split.
19 March Very sad news that Rod McPherson was killed in a truck accident on Wednesday. Rod's and Jac's boys Ben and Sam were a big part of Rangers from 2007 to 2014. Rod and Jacs were staunch supporters. Much love to Jacqui, Ben and Sam in their massive loss.
Today Rangers men had their first preseason game, at home to Lakes FC from Rotorua. Rangers were caught cold, conceeding two goals in the first few minutes, after that though it was a hard fought even affair ending up 3 - 4 to the visitors. A neat backheel by Earle Tuhimata put Levi McIntyre through and he buried a good shot. A beautiful outswinging corner by Elijah Wetting was headed home in style by Ian Gray. A quick throw in by Christian Wetting set up a shot from Phil Ballingall, which the keeper parried and Peter Kirkbride volleyed into the goal. Rangers came very close to an equaliser: Christian had a goalbound header headed off the line, and Jon Barnes smacked a strong shot that ended up hitting Earle rather than finding the net!
Next Saturday Rangers have another preseason game, against Papamoa Buccaneers at Edgecumbe at 2pm.
News from the Federation: Season start will be delayed till April 9 & 10. Clubs are being asked to vote on one of two BOP plans. The first one has Plains Rangers men in BOP div 2, in a 12 team league. The second has Plains Rangers in an eight team BOP div 3.
12 March Sadly the Nix snap their unbeaten run with a loss at Brisbane tonight.
In Rangers news - the women have started Wednesday trainings at 6pm, but they are still welcome at the men's trainings on Thursdays. There will be some sore bodies after Thursday with coach Wetts inflicting a lengthy session of planking on the squad, followed by ten rounds of other strengthening fitness rotations. The football that followed was good. Some well constructed play and combinations.
Next Saturday is Rangers first pre-season run.
9 March Phoenix grab a late winner to move into the top six.
7 March Plains Rangers men have two preseason games coming up. On Sat 19th March Rangers host Lakes FC from Rotorua at 2pm. On Sat 26 March Rangers play Papamoa Buccaneers. See ya all Thursday 6pm.
5 March Great news, it looks like Rangers have a women's team again this season. More players needed though - all welcome from age 15 upwards. Contact Ranee on 0274679792, or just turn up on Thursday nights 6pm at Edgecumbe Sports club (field behind the rugby ground). No experience needed. Male players age 15 and above welcome too for the mens team. Same place, same time!
22 February Well done to those Rangers players who turned up for the working bee at the club on Saturday. Quite a bit of paint was splashed about. While the painting was done, the gossip and banter was being created. Hmmm
16 February The Phoenix had another win to lift them to 5th on the table after being last only ten days ago! Oli Sail in goal is as good as Wetts, saving his team a couple of goals a game! 3 - 0 win. Wouldn't it be great if they could come home and play in New Zealand! Check out our Phoenix page.
11 February Rangers had a good kick around last night, more than 20 players. The Phoenix women made history tonight, grabbing their first ever win in the A League. 3 - 0 away to Canberra. Well deserved. Check out our Phoenix pages.
9 February The Nix score their third league win in a row, knocking over FFA Cup winners Victory.
6 February Phoenix scored a good win tonight, could've been by more. Good preseason turn out on Thursday. Levi showing good skills. Pete's Middlesbrough knock Jon's ManU out of the FA Cup. Will the banter ever cease?!
30 January Sadly the Phoenix couldn't hold on to their lead in the Cup semi final, losing to Victory. In better news, the Federation are pushing for an Over-35s BOP league and have used Ali Scott as a poster draw card for the league! Check it out on Photo of the Week. Ali will be hoping for a commission on the entry fees!
27 January Another good kick around tonight, 7 v 7. Sad news to come through tonight though. Norm Howe has passed away. Norm did refereeing in the BOP for many years, right up until he turned 80! He was well known for letting the game flow and "Play on!" was called out to the players several times a game. Norm did a huge service to the game of football, a huge thankyou to him from all of Plains Rangers. We miss characters like him.
26 January Come along to the presason kick around tomorrow (Thursday) night. 6pm at Edgecumbe Domain (on the pitch behind the rugby field). All welcome - high school kids, men, women, Newcastle supporters even!
The Phoenix are building up to their FFA Cup semi final against top of the table Melbourne Victory this Saturday night. It'll be on Youtube not Sky. Here's the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Z3OMnhGTaQ
22 January A good kick around on Thursday. 12 people there. Julie scored the winner, better than getting the ball kicked into her face earlier on!. Some impressive goals and good passing. The Phoenix men had a good win last night and the women went oh so close.
16 January Phoenix women can't hang on to their lead, losing 2 - 3 to Brisbane. Keeper Alfeld saves a penalty.
11 January A healthy first pre-season kickaround on Friday evening for Rangers. 6 v 6.
5 January Phoenix win the quarterfinal of FFA Cup, knocking out champions Melbourne City despite having lots of players unavailable through covid. Very solid with Rufer playing centre back. Pennington and Lewis good in centre midfield. Alex Paulsen three saves in penalty shoot out after extra time. Pennington buried the last one.
4 January 2022 First Rangers kick around of the new year happening on Friday, 5pm at Edgecumbe. All welcome! The Phoenix's next chance to get their season back on track is tomorrow (Wed) night with an FFA Cup game against champions Melbourne City. It's on Youtube not Sky. Happy New Year everyone!
27 December 2021 Nix women show great improvement to go down to a late Jets goal, after losing 5 - 1 to them only 2 weeks ago.
19 December The Nix lost both games to Sydney, though the young boys made Sydney sweat in the end. Old and Waine made a difference. Sail injured so young keeper Paulsen debut.
14 December The Phoenix bounced back from a tough weekend - men lost 4 - 0 and women lost 5 - 1 - by knocking out Avondale from the FFA Cup with a 4 - 1 win. Sotirio two excellent goals.
7 December A very young Phoenix team knocked Western United out of the FFA Cup. An excellent Ben Waine header from a Louis Fenton cross. 1 - 0 win. Lots of debuts for young players.
4 December Phoenix women's team had their first ever A League game last night, a very creditable 0 - 0 draw against WSWanderers.
They played some very well organised football. Sadly, the Nix men had their 13 game unbeaten run broken, losing to the Wanderers 2 - 0.

The Phoenix have their first game this Sunday evening, kick off 8.15 pm against Macarthur FC. The first A League game is this Friday (Melb City v Brisbane)

11 October Wow, a 15 - 0 result in the Papamoa clash. Well done to the All Whites beating Curacao 2 - 1. It will be a tough one against Bahrain on Wednesday morning, 5am. In the heat, at their ground. Bahrain beat Curacao 4 - 0!
Rangers kick around Thursday evenings 6pm. All welcome.
The Wellington Phoenix have announced the new coaches for their first ever women's team. They are Gemma Lewis and Natalie Lawrence. The Phoenix women kick off on
December 3rd. The coaches will have to sign a whole new squad of players and get training! Excitingly the women's games seem to be organised as double headers with men's fixtures. Won't it be great when we can see them back in NZ!
7 October Rangers boys looking to have Thursday night kick arounds, all welcome. All Whites live on TV this Sunday morning 5am, v Curacao (Roly Bonevacia plays for them), and again v Bahrain next Wednesday, same time.
Rangers Bay Two league table is nearly complete, waiting on a Papamoa result. Some game weren't played however (e.g. Rangers v Old Blues).
2 October The boys played really well at Ngongy without turning the football into those crucial things goals, losing 2 - 1. Player of the day Levi scored after some great work by Jezza. Lots of chances created. Keep a watch for our club prize giving night.
1 October Our final game of the season tomorrow. Hopefully we can scrape a team together for the trip to play Ngongotaha. The draw for the new season of the Wellington Phoenix is out. Here is our Phoenix page for the new season. Hopefully the covid situation will improve and the Nix will be able to come home to play in NZ again!! Exciting times with a Phoenix women's team to join the league too.
27 September A team photo from Saturday. Thanks Brittany! Apologies to all those who weren't there on the day.
26 September A hard fought game at Rotorua yesterday. Their team seemed reinforced compared to when we beat them 5 - 0 in the first round. A 1 - 1 draw was a good reflection. Jimmy our scorer. Phil hit the post and had another couple of efforts well saved. Carl player of the day, with Phil and Jon close seconds. Read the report. Neither the 'fight' nor early warning are mentioned!
22 September Some cool action pics from Saturday's game by Bruce Belcher. Click here!
The Miller Cup tournament scheduled for Oct 2 has been postponed to a preseason tournament for next season because of covid restrictions. Therefore Rangers will have a catch up game against Ngongy on that day, our last game of the season.
19 September An entertaining, hard fought game. Rangers lost to Tauranga City 2 - 3. Matt player of the day. Jacob did serious damage to his knee unfortunately. Goals to Jimmy and Hamish. Read the report. Photos to come - Bruce Belcher was there, plus Beacon photographer Brayden.
Sad to see Papamoa win Bay One without playing their final games, when Kawerau and Katikati defaulted home games to them.
14 September The rest of all the Waibop draws are on our draw, results page. Some teams in Fed Championship have pulled out of their remaining fixtures, a bit sad for those meant to play them.
9 September The draw for the rest of the season is out. Rangers have two games scheduled and two games that could be played midweek, or will otherwise be cancelled. Tauranga City home and Rotorua away are definite. Old Blues and Ngongy away are probably cancelled. For the Miller Cup tournament to go ahead we will need to be at level one, otherwise one more round of the league will be played.
7 September With our area of NZ moving down to covid level 2 tonight, our football can resume. Now there is a rush to get the remaining fixtures completed. Rangers have four games to play in the two weeks from September 18, the season finishing with the Miller Cup tournament planned for Saturday October 2nd. The Federation says the revised draw for the rest of the season will be out this Friday. Looking forward to seeing everyone at training this Thursday, 6pm (not at midnight tonight, like one rumour). Talk of an intersquad game this Saturday. Oi Oi Rangers!!
24 August The lockdown continues, so this Saturday's Miller Cup tournament has been postponed. Oh well, at least the EPL Fantasy League is off and running. Three ex-Rangers players are leading our mini league. Cmon boys!! If you haven't joined yet, better get in before everyone is out of sight. Scroll down to July 30 for details.
19 August Sadly the outbreak of covid 19 has seen the postponement of all football throughout New Zealand this weekend. Hopefully the lockdown will ease next week and we can get back to training and prepare for the Miller Cup tournament. Keep safe. Oi oi Rangers!
15 August Rangers, minus Wetts, scored a hard fought 2 - 1 away win at Otumoetai. Mackem player of the day in goal. Jimmy and Sione scored the goals. Welcome back to Earle after many weeks. Hamish's butt saved a goal! Here's the report.
1 August A hard fought game at Taupo yesterday, ending in a 1 - 0 loss. Wetts superb in goal as usual, player of the day. Read the report. Great to see lots of travelling support, a fine sunny day. Rumours of a rather messy night in Taupo following the game. Carl, where is the strip? An amazing result from our league: Ngongy 6 Pap Old Boys 5.
The NZ Football team drew their quarter-final 0 - 0 , after extra-time came the dreaded penalty shoot out, where NZ managed to emulate the English team's Euro display. Still, history was made - NZ won their first game at a mens top tier tournament and got out of their group. Well done!
30 July Rangers are getting psyched up for the trip to Taupo tomorrow, not forgetting that at 9pm tomorrow night NZ play Japan in a quarterfinal of the Olympics football.
Join in our EPL Fantasy League, try and beat last year's guns Andy and Jaiden. https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/auto-join/7rpuqa is the link, the League code is 7rpuqa for the Plains Rangers mini league.
Heaps of fun - choose your premier league squad, manage it from week to week...
Be quick, the EPL kicks off on August 14th.
26 July What a day it has been, with Hamish Wilde's little brother Hayden earning NZ's first Olympic medal of the games in Tokyo, with a bronze in the triathlon. Massive congratulations to Hayden, Hamish and family.
Last night NZ, after beating group favourites South Korea last week, lost 3 - 2 to Honduras after leading with two excellent goals - a Cacace thunderbolt volley and a beautiful Eli Just cross finished by Chris Wood. Captain Winsotn Reid carried off after three minutes. A couple of defensive disasters gifted the goals to Honduras.
On Saturday Rangers played very well in a hard fought 1 - 0 loss to league leaders Papamoa Old Boys. Player of the day Shane. Read Chris's report on the game.
22 July This week's opponents Pap Old Boys had a big win 12 - 1 against Rotorua on Saturday. Should be a good challenge for our defence, who have only conceeded one goal in the last four games.
At 8pm tonight NZ Olympics men v South Korea, will be a big challenge but our boys are in with a shout!
17 July Gale force winds made for an interesting game at home against Omokoroa. Rangers played superb football for the first half an hour and controlled the rest of the game to win 2 - 0. Levi and Jimmy scored, Bazza player of the day. Read the report.
A reminder that subs are now overdue. If you haven't paid yours, please arrange to do so. Here are the details:

01-0310-0056958-00 (make sure you reference your name!). If you register, you have to pay the subs. We also have a social sub of $50 for people who don't want to play, but want to be club members.
14 July The Olympics football is almost upon us. NZ had a good 2 - 0 win against Australia in a warm up game on Monday (goals Chris Wood and Eli Just) and they have another game against Aussie on Thursday night 9pm kick off. The games are televised, just updates on Twitter. NZ have a strong team and must stand a reasonable chance of gettng out of their group (Honduras, Romania, Korea Republic - aka South Korea). First game 22 July v South Korea.
12 July Hoping for a good turn out at training this week. Plenty of players need to put into practice the skills they have watched in the Euros, and put up their play to back up their talk on chat.... Will we be eating pizzas again this weekend ?
11 July A number of players missing, Rangers had a tricky game at Papamoa Buccaneers yesterday. Young Levi scored a good goal assisted by fellow high school player Elijah. Rangers conceeded with only five minutes to play. A 1 - 1 draw. Levi player of the day. Here's the report. Lots of football banter flying around today with Argentina winning the Copa America and England v Italy in the Euro final tomorrow morning. Rangers' poms are well fired up... Only one person in the squad was alive when England won their last trophy!
3 July Rangers were held scoreless for only the second time this season, a 0 - 0 draw with Otumoetai Special Reserve. Injury affected, but a good even game. Jacob Davis player of the day. Read the match report.
27 June An excellent team performance yesterday, goals by Jon (welcome back) and Levi (courtesy of a defender's clearance) earned a 2 - 0 win over league leaders Old Blues. Mackem deservedly player of the day. Read the report. Welsome back to Pete too.
21 June Lots of football happening off shore at the moment. Euro 2020 - Rangers players have links to England, Netherlands, Scotland; the A League finals - thats down to Melbourne City v Sydney FC final.
19 June A first half perfect hat trick from Hamish wasn't enough to secure any points for Rangers in a see-sawing 5 - 4 loss to Ngongy today. Strong winds, injuries, errors, nice goals - very entertaining for the neutral spectator if there had been any. Hamish player of the day, Elijah the other scorer. Here's the report.
14 June The club was very pleased to receive a very positive piece of feedback from Rotorua United today about the atmosphere in the clubrooms after Saturday's game and the good spirit of the game itself. The feedback pointed out how good it was to see the rugby and football codes combining after the games, the hospitality and the speeches led by kaumatua. Kia ora Rotorua!
12 June Rangers played some good football especially in the second half, to beat Rotorua 5 - 0 today. Earle player of the day. Goals shared between Sione, Phil, Jimmy, David and Edison. Welcome back to ex-Rangers player Andy Willis. Some awesome whaikorero, waiata and haka in the clubrooms afterwards, as the aftermatch also included the Edgecumbe and Te Teko rugby teams. Read the report.
11 June A full on training session last night. Good work boys! A reminder about the club fundraiser on Sunday morning, doing kiwifruit pruning with Jimmy, 620 Western Drain Road, 8am.
Well done to Tauranga City who beat West Auckland in the Chatham Cup 3rd round and now meet giants Auckland City in the 4th round.
8 June Rangers had a tough day out at Tauranga City on Saturday, missing several key players. However, they did win the second half. Player of the day Elijah. Read Chris's match report.
Sadly the Phoenix didn't get into the finals series, despite extending their unbeaten run to eleven matches with a 3 - 0 away win over finals team Macarthur. Farewell to Mexican star and captain Ulises Davila who ironically has been signed by Macarthur on a $2 million deal.
2 June After the Phoenix's dramatic 2 - 2 draw with Perth at Eden Park on Sunday afternoon, their route to the finals is now difficult, depending on other teams and on winning their final league game this Friday night. Will they still be in the mix by Friday? Tonight's game between Brisbane and Perth will have an impact. The Nix can only catch two teams if they win their last game, Brisbane and Adelaide. Adelaide play Thursday night, so it may be all over by Friday...
Matt and Bazza were part of the 22000 crowd on Sunday, along with quite a few from Whakatane, who had their games cancelled.
Late news, Brisbane won tonight, so they are out of reach. Now only Adelaide are in reach for the Nix. They need to lose against WSW tomorrow night!
31 May Rangers shared a 5 - 5 draw with Otumoetai on Saturday! Here's the report.
27 May Reports that Whakatane lost their Cup game 7 - 5 after extra time at Ngongotaha, but are credited with a 3 - 0 win on the Waibop website. Interesting...
26 May A great gutsy win away to Western Sydney by the Nix, two goals from corners, Piscopo injured, serious damage to shoulder by the look. Next up Auckland on Sunday.
25 May Welcome back to NZ Peter Kirkbride. Pete is doing two weeks quarantine. Congratulations to Andy Willis for winning the Plains Rangers fantasy league (sigh). Two other ex-Rangers players came 2nd and 3rd (Tiemen and Jaiden) with the top current Rangers player Chris Butler 4th. Andy was 2nd in the Waibop league.
Watch out for the next Nix game tomorrow night.
24 May Read the write up of Saturday's game, thanks Chris!
22 May A great day all round. Rangers knocked first division side Otumoetai Legends out of the Miller Cup, away from home, 3 - 2. Edison and Elijah shared player of the day. Scorers: Earle, Phil and Jimmy. More details to come. Three Bay Two teams have knocked Bay One teams out of the Cup so far, with not all results in.
The Phoenix set a new record home crowd (in a non-play off game) of over 24,000 and beat Western United 3 - 0. An emotional send-off for ex-Phoenix skipper Andrew Durante. Melbourne City won the Premier's plate tonight, beating CCM 1 - 0.
21 May After we asked for clarification, the Federation has now added in what division the teams in tomorrow's Miller Cup round have come from. Otherwise, Tauranga City, Ngongotaha and Rotorua United had two teams each in the draw with exactly the same names. The draw is on our BOP draw page.
20 May Looks like Ian Makem Gray will be making a return from injury for Rangers this weekend. Rangers are excited to be pitted against a first division team in the Miller Cup. Oi Oi Rangers!
Don't forget, fees are due to be paid (either part or in full) by the end of this month.
16 May The Nix have a full on exciting 2 - 2 draw at league leaders. Finals chances pretty slim now. Only a week till the Phoenix play in NZ, looks like a good crowd is going to be at Wellington. Hopefully Mexican star Davila is over his injury by then. Then the following Sunday, is the Nix's game in Auckland. Rangers' Nix fans are ready!
11 May Check out these great match photos from Bruce Belcher.
9 May Rangers and Taupo had a hard fought game, ending 2 - 2 when Jimmy scored a late header. Phil got the first goal. Carl player of the day in defence. Read the report. Bruce's photos to come.
7 May The BOP Cup draw is out. First round May 22, the Bowl and rest of rounds are being played as a one day tournament on August 28 at Fergusson Park. Rangers have got.... of course... Otumoetai Legends Bay One team in the first round.
Phoenix tonight, 9.30pm.
6 May Sorry for lack of updates. Computer upgraded, which means that some usual software didn't work!
Rangers weren't in best form at Papamoa. Level at half time, but going down 3 - 0 in the end. Here's the report. Levi player of the day.
26 April This Saturday's game shapes as a biggie, with Rangers and Papamoa Old Boys equal top of the tables, same points and same goal difference.
Chris Wood made it a very memorable day for himself and NZ football when he scored a hat trick for Burnley as they ran over Wolves 4 - 0.
Neighbours Whakatane Town got bundled out of the Chatham Cup, beaten 10 - 0 by Otorohanga! Ouch!
25 April Read the report from yesterday's game.
What a dramatic win by the Nix tonight, scoring a last minute penalty to get up into the top six. Very impressive considering three games in a week and flights from Perth to Tasmania to Sydney in between each one.
24 April Great to visit new club Omokoroa FC. A comfortable win, 8 - 0. Hamish player of the day, got three assists from long throw-ins! Fines of the day went to Sione for stealing Bazza's goal and Wetts for calling 'Keeper's ball' twice, even though he was playing out on the field! Quote of the day though was one of the Omokoroa defenders in total frustration yelling loudly to another of his players 'You have to f***ing pay money to watch football, so get off your a** and do something!'
22 April a hard fought training tonight. Welcome to Edison, who showed quick feet and determined defending. The Nix game was disappointing though after taking the lead, conceding and then going a man up, they couldn't nail the win.
19 April The Phoenix had a huge win in Perth last night, 3 - 1. A big week for the Nix with another game on Thursday (in Tasmania) and yet another on Sunday. Check out our Phoenix pages.
18 April A good win yesterday, 3 - 1 against Papamoa, despite several players being out injured. Goals to Hamish, Isaiah and Shane. Isaiah player of the day. Read the report. A big game for the Phoenix tonight, away at Perth Glory, kick off at 10.15pm

11 April A seesawing game to open the season at Otumoetai, ending in a 4 - 4 draw. Goals to Wetts (2), Kaleb and Sione, player of the day Jacob. Read the match report.
7 April Sad news today that Rangers have had to withdraw their women's team this season through lack of numbers. Rangers have had ten straight years of women's teams. Hopefully we can bounce back again next season. One of the Old Blues teams in Bay Two has also withdrawn.
Rangers men have only a few days to make sure they have registered for the season. Don't leave it till the night before first game on Saturday!!!
Great news about the trans-Tasman travel bubble that might mean Phoenix fans could get to see their team play a couple of actual home games!
30 March A good preseason game with Trident tonight. Rangers controlled the first half, but didn't create many scoring chances. The second half was a little more even. Trident scored against the run of play, pouncing on a poor clearance, and converting from a well placed cross. Rangers bounced back with a good goal, some good passing was finished off by Isaiah Davidson. Rangers had another couple of chances, but would be happy with their team shape.
Players need to register with My Comet... There is a help page on the Waibop website. 24 March Great game by the Nix tonight, beating Victory 4 - 1. Stevie Taylor is back! Check out our Nix pages.
Chance of a friendly with Trident High School next Tuesday.
20 March Thanks Papamoa for organising a fun preseason mini tournament. Rangers had three games, and while several first teamers were absent, it gave the chance to other people to get game time. Rangers went down in the first game against Otumoetai, who scored from a goalmouth melee and also straight from the second half kick off with an extremely well judged lob. Rangers bounced back to win the second game 1 - 0 against Papamoa Doubros. Young keeper Elijah Wetting (yes, son of legendary keeper Christian) provided the assist with a great clearance that striker Phil Ballingall latched onto to bury with a left foot volley. Papamoa Old Boys played some nice football and earned a first half penalty after a foul in the penalty area. Elijah made a superb save in the second half, but Old Boys took the game 1 - 0.
News from the Federation that the BOP men's leagues start on 10 April, women's on the 11th. There are ten teams in Bay One, and 12 in Bay Two, with both leagues expected to play two rounds. The Fed says there are 10 teams in Women's Bay league, including a bye, which you must presume means there are 9 teams.
The draws are due out early next week.
Rangers women's team is still needing a few more players. Please contact Sarah 0278824710 if you are interested, players returning after a break, and also high school players are most welcome.
15 March Papamoa couldn't get a team togther for Sunday, so Rangers just had an intersquad game. However, this Saturday there is a pre-season tournament at Papamoa. Rangers have three 30 min games against other Bay Two teams. Games at 12.30, 1.15 and 2 pm. Be at training on Thursday for final arrangements
12 March Rangers men have a preseason game, at home this Sunday against Papamoa DBs. 2pm kick off, squad be there at 12.45. A good run around at training last night, good to see some nice passing combinations developing.
The draw for the Federation leagues is out, check on our BOP draw page.
7 March Rangers are looking for more women players to boost their squad. Minimum age 15 years. All welcome. More info contact Sarah Wigzell 0278824710. New men players also welcome.
Terrific Nix performance to beat Perth 3 - 0. Great news for the Nix with old captain Stephen 'Jetski' Taylor back for the rest of the season. He's doing quarantine.
Happy 21st birthday to ex-Rangers player Petir Gray.
News from the Rangers AGM. Christian, Chris and Margaret all carrying on with their roles in club management. Fees for the season were set at $195 for adults and $100 for youth players.
8 February A frustrating loss for the Nix, hit crossbar twice, lost 2 - 1 at Sydney.

27 January Reminder about the muster tomorrow, all very welcome. There was an error in today's Beacon regarding the AGM. The AGM will be on the 18th February. See you tomorrow, 6pm, dust off those boots, grab your water bottle, even if you're not sure of playing the season, come and have a kick around!
24 January Rangers preseason muster this Thursday 28th, 6pm at Edgecumbe Domain. Bring a friend, cold drink and football shoes. Men, women and senior high school students all welcome.
The Nix showed that you can dominate a game but lose, going down to the Jets 2 - 1.
Congrats to Hamish who scored over 100 points in Fantasy League this week, despite having two players not play and no subs to add to the score!
18 January The Nix go up a place on the table without even playing! Check out our Nix pages.
9 January Red card to Rufer robbed the Nix of a likely win. Very poor decision by the VAR / ref. The Nix had been controlling much of the game up till then. Lovely goal by Bally.
3 January 2021 Happy New Year to all Rangers players, supporters, and football people in general. The Phoenix started their new season with a very good performance, but a 2 - 1 loss to last season's champions Sydney 2 - 1. Check out our Phoenix and A League pages.
10 December Today Ashley Hawkes (ex-Rangers player, now living in Wollongong, NSW) was interviewed on local tv (ABC Illawarra) for an item about the Wellington Phoenix, who are now based in Wollongong for the foreseeable future. He video-called his dad Bazza as part of the interview. If travel restrictions ease, Bazza will hope to go watch the Nix play over there. They are also interviewing some Nix players, so the result will be interesting when it comes out.
Stories of a wonder goal scored by Elijah Wetting at summer football last Friday, a rabona volley was how it was described. Go Elijah!
3 December The A League draw is out. First up the Nix have Brisbane Roar on December 29th. The Nix have signed an Israeli Tomar Hemed to replace striker Gary Hooper. Can he lead the line as well as Gary? Hopefully. Check out our A League and Nix pages.
27 November Very sad news on 25th that Diego Maradona has died, aged 60. He was a genius. The world will miss him. Special thoughts to Juan and all Argentinians.

27 September A very good end of season for Rangers, coming 3rd in the Miller Cup & Bowl tournament yesterday. We knocked two Bay One teams out of the Cup, before losing to eventual winners Tauranga City in the semifinal. We also won the 3rd place play off. Great work boys, and also to the women's team over there supporting us. Here's the report. Squad photo is here.
Highlights: Great goals from Phil and Jimmy, Wetts getting kicked in the forehead (not easy to do) but not getting a free kick, Kawerau's coach getting red carded, the predicted scrap with Kawerau, Bazza's run away goal in the 3rd place game, the girls' chilly bin getting emptied,
Kaleb and Aaron on the pitch together, lots of sun and very little wind (a rarity for Fergusson Park), watching some entertaining penalty shoot outs, Kirk making an appearance....

Ranee's report:
Us VS Waiariki
0 - 3
Well ladies that is a wrap, season is all over and done, well done ladies on making it to the end and what a season it has been. Well today we had a heap of laughs on and off the field and was great to see. We had good passing moments, some triangles were happening too. Some good getting in there and tackling as well. Laura Powick you had a good game in the mid, nice shot on goals, that silly post got in your way. Julie Reihana you had a good game, nice seeing you finish the game up as a striker. Sarah Boyce you had a good game in the back line and that was a lot of running back you did today. Danielle Haldane you had an awesome game, you were all over the pitch today. A big thank you to our ring ins, if it wasn't for you I don't think we would have seen the season out, so thank you for playing for us, it was much appreciated.
For player of the day it goes to the whole team you all deserve it, so we'll done ladies.
So you will no longer get reminders about training or game day information, enjoy your summer girls and hope to see you back next year.
P.S Prize giving is the 10 October, time TBC.
12 September Rangers men fought hard but lost to a strong Tauranga City team 3 - 0. A couple of unusual goals didn't help! Jimmy player of the day. Here's the report. Watch out for some awesome photos of the game taken by Bruce Belcher. They should be on here on Monday. In bad but unsurprising news for Rangers Nix fans, star striker Gary Hooper has signed with an Indian Super League club.

Ranee's report: Us VS Tga City
0 - 2.
What a game we had today ladies, we all played well, we kept our heads and decided to changed some of you around in different positions today. We did some wicked passing and had some good shots on goal. We held them out for 43 minutes before they managed to score that was fantastic work. It was the same in the second half we held them out for ages and they were getting more frustrated that they couldn't put a ball away. Nice ladies. Thank you Karen Toone for standing in the goal today much appreciated and you had a awesome game, thanks for calling MINE for the ball lol. Rhylee Mahy you had a fantastic game on the wing and got some shots on too. Laura Powick great game in the centre mids today, lots of running for you today. Sarah Boyce needs to go to specsavers but other than that you had a good game Sarah, thanks for doing the speech too. Hope you had fun just standing on the field Amie Morris! The ref picked our player of the day and that goes to Mishka Barry, well done Mish.
Last training this Wednesday ladies, see you there.

1 September Rangers drop to 3rd after the result of Old Blues game finally came through.
The Federation Leagues have now been split, with points carried through.
31 August Some awesome photos of the game, many thanks Bruce.
30 August Rangers men and Taupo played lots of good football in a hard fought top of the table clash yesterday. Two goals in the last five minutes saw the score blow out to 4 - 1 win to Taupo. Sammy player of the day, Phil nailed another goal.
Read the report. Some great photos coming too, courtesy of Bruce Belcher.
24 August Rangers men did it tough, coming back from 2 - 0 down to grab a draw at Papamoa. Phil was player of the day on debut after coming on to score a brace. Read the report. Watching the Nix dominate their Elimination final against Perth and lose 1 - 0 was very disappointing. Rangers women had a tough day on Sunday too against top team Te Puke. Here is Ranee's report:
Us VS Te Puke
0 - 8
What a day at the office ladies, at least we didn't get rained on. We always knew today was going to be a hard game for us, but we played our game plan and we held them out really well. It took them ages to score that first goal and you could tell by the way we were playing that they were finding it hard to get through and they were getting pisses about it. Each week our passing is getting better and better ladies. Well done.
Everyone had a great game. Laura Powick you did awesome work in the backline, you did what we asked of you and it paid off. Rhylee Mahy you had another amazing game in the backline, you were getting right in there. Sarah Boyce you had a great game as well. Danielle Haldane another great game from you. Jenny McIntyre as always what can I say... you were just you. Rachel Elliot another great game from you as well. Thanks Stevie Clarke for your massive 30 seconds. You're a star. 16 August Rangers women had a good battle at Kawerau today. Here is Ranee's report:
Us VS KTown 2 - 5
Well ladies that was one hell of a game played by all. The score does not reflect how well we gelled as a team. A couple of their goals were just plain lucky, nothing we could do about them. We did some amazing passing of the ball, really making them work for it. Every one was holding their positions today, and we were going for the balls not just standing off and waiting for it to come to us. Good work on that ladies.
A big thank you to Katie, Nikki, Rachel Elliot, Mikaela Mathis and Stevie Clarke for playing today, big high fives to you. Alex Bentley-Dalgity you had an amazing game in the second half in the mids. You held that position well and did some awesome work. Rhylee Mahy man you had a cracker of a game, you did top effort work on your side. Rachel you had an amazing game on the wing. Julie Reihana what a little cracker you are. You were all over them, well done. Macca it was like you never left the team... awesome work in the mids and well done on the goal as well. Well done Stevie too for getting our second goal today. Congratulations to Danielle Haldane on getting player of the day. You held that position great and you stopped a lot of balls and players coming through. Great work today.
Once again ladies well done today top effort.
Catch ya all at training Wednesday night.
Bad news for Nix fans, that star striker Gary Hooper will miss the finals playoffs through injury and is returning home to the UK.
15 August Quite a few Rangers players on the sidelines watching games in Whakatane. Lots of players with Rangers links: Petir Gray played in the 1 - 1 draw between Whk and Taupo in Fed Championship, then Husnul Gray, Jordan Ogilvy, Caleb Hyndman, Chris Stanton and James Krause all played in the Bay One game between Whk and Kawerau. Jimmy's Kawerau team won 4 - 2, helped by two red cards to the hosts!
14 August Breaking news... Rangers men's game against Waiariki tomorrow has been postponed to Sept 19, due to covid worries about Rotorua. A shame, after a full on training last night, but it's good to play when hopefully everyone feels safe.
The Phoenix dominated but got beat 3 - 0 last night. Sigh. They will probably still finish 3rd. The finals series kicks off next weekend (22 / 23 August).
Check out our Phoenix & A League pages.
11 August No training tonight - too wet.
Good news: The Miller Cup and Bowl is being played this season.
Venue - Fergusson Park Otumoetai. Date - Saturday 26th September.
Games - 30 minutes - 15 minute halves.
Time - 9am -4pm approx.
Entry - No charge.
If teams do not wish to be involved, let the Federation know.
Tonight's League match Adelaide v Melb City might decide if the Phoenix can finish second. Adelaide would need to win. Then Melb City lose their last game and the Nix win theirs on Thursday.
9 August Rangers women had a good battle with Blue Rovers, ending with a 3 - 1 loss. Laura was player of the day and goal scorer. Here is Ranee's report:
Us VS Blue Rovers,
1 - 3
Sun shine all day and no rain, best weather to play in. Well done ladies on the game today. We all had an amazing game and nice work happening out there on the field. Lots of passing amongst us and clearing of ball and some big chase backs. Michelle Corbett another great game in goal even if you give us a couple of scary moments. Rhylee Mahy you had an amazing game in the back line, you were doing some impressive work with your passing and defending. Jenny McIntyre nice job on the wing today you really kept Gemma on her toes. Sarah Boyce impressive work in the mid field you were a natural. Congratulations to Laura Powick on player of the day amazing work up front and nice goal as well.
Rest up the injuries girls.
Catch ya all at training Wednesday.
8 August Rangers had a really good battle with Old Blues today, well refereed by Michel Nillesen. Rangers came back to earn a 1 - 1 draw, courtesy of a Hamish Wilde thunderbolt. Muggsy player of the day. Read the report. In the clubrooms afterwards, we had a combined aftermatch with the rugby teams. Our keeper Wetts has played for both rugby teams - Edgecumbe and Whakatane Marist, as well as Rangers of course!
4 August News that Old Blues lost at Waiariki, means they will be fired up for their visit to Edgecumbe this Saturday. Can Rangers avenge their loss in the first round? Beacon photographer there Saturday, get your hair sorted!
A busy week: Training tonight, Phoenix Wed 8pm, Women's training Wed, Training Thursday, Quiz night Friday, Game Sat, Women's game Sunday.
2 August Rangers women played into a strong cold wind for the first half at Otumoetai, which mysteriously weakened to a breeze when they changed ends. Mishka a lovely goal, Julie player of the day. Here's the report.
Here are Ranee's notes:
Us VS Otumoetai.
1 - 6
Well what a windy and cold day at the office. Well done ladies on a hard played game. Ones with injuries rest them up and take it easy. We had some good moments of passing on the field with some triangles chucked in as well. Also we were having shots on goal as well and not waiting to try and shoot in the box. Amber McKenzie good playing and hope your knee comes right. Danielle Haldane welcome back to the field, you had a great game as well today. Mishka Barry well done on getting the goal today and nice play and passing on the field with Amie Morris. Your guys passing was on point. Rhylee Mahy you had a spectacular game. Thank you Katie for playing today you had an awesome game. Congratulations to Julie Reihana on player of the day - you had an amazing game on the wing well done.
Catch ya all at training on Wednesday.
1 August Rangers went to the top of the table with a gritty away win at Papamoa Old Boys. Sione and Muggsy got the goals and Wetts saved a penalty. Hamish player of the day. Read the report. Nix fans shook their heads at their team's 1 - 0 loss last night, featuring a red card and a horror head clash.
27 July Playing at Ocean Downs, early goals to Rangers put them on track for the 3 - 1 win away against TCU. Read the report (thanks Chris). Player of the day Sam. On Saturday night the Nix fielded only a few first choice players, but still drew with Adelaide, to move to 2nd on the table.
Rangers women put in a brave effort at Waiariki, losing 5 - 0. Mishka player of the day.
Ranee's report:
Us VS Waiariki. 0-5
Top effort today ladies even though we only had 12 players, we all dug deep and played our hearts out, we were all buggered by the end. The passing of the ball to our players was on point and great movement on and off the ball. Back line you all had a hard game today but you all keep them out as much as we could. Thank you Laura for offering to go goalie today you had a good game in there, and played well out on the field. Amie you had a good game in midfield. Sarah you too had a good game in the centre even if you were coughing up your lungs. Player of the day goes to Mishka thank you for being goalie second half and when you were on the field you were holding your own and not giving up. Nice work.
23 July Gritty win by the Phoenix last night, now just one point behind 2nd placed Melb City, with a game in hand.
Cool headline in yesterday's Beacon, referring to Jimmy giving Otumoetai a 'Hart Attack'.
20 July Read the report from the pulsating game on Saturday. Here are some great photos of the game, thanks Bruce Belcher.
18 July A hard fought 3 - 2 win against Otumoetai. Sione and Jimmy scored the goals. Carl player of the day.
15 July Two days till the A League restarts. Check out our Phoenix and A League pages. The draw is open to shuffling though with Victoria's teams in isolation and a possible relocation to Queensland because of Sydney outbreaks of covid. Come on the Nix!
A good run around for Rangers men last night, with rain forecast over the next few days.
13 July Chris's report from the game at Taupo.
The count down is on for the Phoenix's first game back after the covid19 break in the A League. Friday night against league leaders Sydney, should be a cracker!
11 July A hard fought 0 - 0 draw away at Taupo today. Player of the day, Jon Barnes on debut. Report to come, if everyone gets back intact from the Reporoa Pub!
6 July Here are some great action photos of Rangers men v Papamoa, from Bruce Belcher. You can check out more on his facebook page. Compare the photos with the report.
5 July Rangers women had a tough day out, lucky they have a bye next week to recover. Best wishes to Peter Kirkbride and his family. Pete's father has passed away in the UK, with covid19 making things like this even tougher than usual.
Don't forget everyone... Our fees are NOW DUE!!! Scroll down to February 22 for details.
Ranee's report:
Us VS Te Puke, 0 - 11.
It was a rough day at the office today playing Te Puke, we knew it was going to be a tough game. Our passing training has been paying off, because our passing was great and the ball to feet pays off as well. Playing with one extra in the back line helped out. Alex Bentley-Dalgity you had a good tough game up front, but you were fighting for the ball. Amie Morris you had a great game in the mid field fielding the balls and just generally being there, hope your ankle feels better soon. Thank you. Rhylee Mahy you had a great game in the back line.
Player of the day goes to Sarah Boyce you had a great game being the sweeper today, stopping the stray balls and being a great back up.
It was a tough game but you all kept your heads up and kept on playing with your all. At the end of the day that is all we can ask.
Rest up ladies and rest those injuries as well. See you all at training Wednesday night
4 July A 2 - 1 win sounds close, but realistically Rangers should have won by quite a few. The woodwork was hit three times. JP came on for a minute before half time and scored direct from a corner! Chris Dell unluckily scored for Rangers, something he didn't manage when he played for us! Kaleb Muggeridge player of the day. Sione did well in goal. Read the report. Some great photos, courtesy of Bruce Belcher coming tomorrow. Thanks Bruce!
28 June Rangers women had a close local derby with Kawerau in sunshine (mostly) today. Kawerau grabbed a 2 - 1 win. Amie was player of the day in the midfield. Ranee also impressed with a length of the field run. Read Barrie's report.
Here is Ranee's report:
Us Vs Kawerau, 1 - 2.
It was a close game today, we held them out for a long time before they got to score their first goal, which was good going for us. Once again our passing was good on the field and the passing back to go forward was great to watch. Well done to Kiahli on your goal today, you had a tough game. In the game we did some ball watching, next we gotta go for those balls. However we didn't give up as much today, we kept fighting for that ball which is good. Laura another good game by you. Michelle good goalie work. Back line you had a tough game with lots of through ball that came though. Alex you had a good game up as striker today. Well done to Amie for getting player of the day, you wanted that ball you went for it, you kept on fighting and never gave up.
Well done ladies on a tough game today. See you all at training Wednesday night.
27 June Strong winds, rain, thunder and lightning... and a good 3 - 1 for Rangers against Waiariki. Isaiah player of the day, Hamish a goal and two assists, Muggsy 65 minutes, three father and son combinations on the pitch... Quite a few ex-Rangers players on the sideline with Whakatane's and Kawerau's games called off. Here's the match report.
26 June Great news today that NZ & Australia have been awarded hosting the 2023 Women's World Cup. It will be amazing. Rangers players who went to games when we hosted the FIFA U-20 and U-17 tournaments remember them very fondly.
22 June Rangers women scored 3, actually a Kiahli Ibbetson hat trick, to earn a point at Blue Rovers. Rangers men had good moments, but couldn't turn them into goals at Old Blues in the rain. Read the men's report.
Ranee's report for the women:
Us vs Blue Rovers 3 - 3
Well what another cracker of a game ladies, thumbs up to you all. We had some high and some low moments but at the end of the day we played as a team and what a team we are, and that's all that matters. We are who we are. We had good passing moments, and those passing moments were good, the balls to feet really worked for us today. We had good clearing of the ball and we are moving as up and down as a team. Some good crossing of the ball as well. Our strikers were run off their feet today, you were certainly busy little beavers. Oh and can't forget about the body slam as well!
Well done Kiahli Ibbetson on your goals today, good to have you on the field. Rest up your injuries Mishka Barry and Dani, and any others that got injured.
Player of the day goes to Danielle Haldane. You had a great game in the back line. They certainly kept you busy on that side of the field, you did great passing of the ball, and defending, well done.
Catch you ladies at training Wednesday.
15 June A very good opening weekend for the season. Rangers men won 2 -0 at home to Papamoa Old Boys and Rangers women drew 2 - 2 at home to Otumoetai.
Men's report (thanks Chris):
The Plains Rangers senior men's football team's highly anticipated first game of the season versus Papamoa Old Boys got off to a quick start with several early shots on goal by the Rangers attacking players. The long balls played through to Jamal James paid off in the 42nd minute when he slotted a left foot acute angle ball past the keeper to go in off the far post and in to the goal.
The Papamoa team went in to half time 1-0 down.
The away team had more position in the second half and provided some spirited attacking moves but the Rangers defenders were solid and their stoic resolve proved to hard for the away team to breakdown. None more so than the experienced Ian (Maken) Gray & the fleet footed Carl Imlig in their central defensive role pairing.
Rangers players Hamish Wilde & James Hart were dynamic in the midfield and provided the perfect foil to link up the defenders turnovers into attack.
This was highlighted when Hamish was fouled in a promising attacking move in the opposing teams top third in the 57th minute.
James Hart coolly took the resulting free kick from 20+ meters out. His bending inside out rocket strike swivelled around the defensive wall causing the keeper to move left then dive right but to no avail, the ball smashed into the back of the old onion bag and the crowd went wild.
The game was well refereed by Neil Walker and no cards were given.
The 2-0 win to the Edgecumbe based Rangers team was well deserved.
Women's report (thanks Ranee):
Us vs Otumoetai 2 - 2
What a great start to the playing season ladies, proud of you all. We had a great game. When we put our passes together it was like watching magic happen. We had some great one on one shots at goal and the two goals we did get were fantastic, congratulations Mishka and Dani. Great running today. You're all going to have some tired legs tonight, rest them up and have a drink to celebrate.
In our second half, what brilliant half. Man did we keep the pressure on them, and they felt it too.
Laura you had a great game, with some good running back and clearing of the ball.
Congratulations to Michelle for getting player of the day, well done and well deserved. You played well and held your position even if you did have a couple of moments on the ground and you even tried to play soccer lying on the ground as well.
Once again great game ladies and catch ya all at training Wednesday night.
8 June Rangers men had a good preseason game with Otumoetai on Saturday. Rangers held their own against first division opposition and knocked the ball around well. After twenty minutes a misplaced pass in the defensive zone gave the ball to an Otumoetai attacker who chipped the ball into the goal with a quality strike. The game was evenly balanced for the most part, with Rangers having some good spells of dominance. With ten minutes to go, young left winger Kaleb Muggeridge hit a shot against the underside of the visitors' bar, but it bounced back out and was cleared. The final score remained Rangers 0, Otumoetai 1. Rangers had lots of good personal performances, with the pick of them being Carl Imlig in defence and the centre midfield pair of Hamish Wilde and James Hart. Many thanks to referee Neil Walker for controlling the game well.
Training continues Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6pm.
4 June The BOP draw is out. Rangers men start in Bay Two on Sat 13th against Papamoa Old Boys, and Rangers women on Sunday 14th against Otumoetai.
3 June Ten days to go till the season finally kicks off! An energetic training last night, young Ben Burr made some great runs. Make sure you're there tomorrow night, ready for a pre-season game against Otumoetai Special Reserve on Saturday. The season starts the following Saturday, the 13th. The juniors kick off this Saturday.
22 May Two good training sessions this week, strong turn outs, lots of energy and some nice football developing. Welcome to our newcomers Thanks to Chris for his communications, covid instuctions, hand sanitizer, etc. There might be few sore bodies out there, recovering in time for next Tuesday. Oi Oi Rangers.
15 May URGENT!! Further to yesterday's good news, everyone needs to be registered with Comet to be allowed to come to training. Scroll down to February 22 for details. Paying your fees is separate to registering. Fees not needed quite as urgently.
14 May MEN'S UPDATE We are starting up training again next week.
For the first couple of weeks we want to have a kick around game on Tuesdays and the main training on Thursday.
Just so we can get more time on the ball before the season starts (expect the season start to be in 2 or 3 weeks - but date still to be confirmed).
The level 2 training guidelines are we keep to groups of 10 (eg 5 a side games), contact trace names, clean shared equipment (eg ball) etc.
Chris will go through all the level 2 rules with everyone on Tuesday 6pm. Let him know (text 0272381001) if you can be at training next week.
13 May Sounds like the 10 person gathering rule announced by the government on Monday applies to football training when we move into level two tomorrow.
Sounds like the Phoenix will be heading back to Aussie to complete the A League season that they were doing so well in. Hopefully stars Davila and Hooper can get back from overseas to rejoin the team.
9 April An update on possible football start date from NZ Football:
New Zealand Football and the seven Federations have announced that the community football postponement has been extended until at least Queen's Birthday Weekend (Saturday 30 May 2020), due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the country still in Alert Level 4, the extended postponement gives the football community new guidance on when NZF aims to resume play, providing it's safe to do so.
Community football, including junior, youth, senior and social competitions – start postponed until at least 30 May
In person workshops and courses, including coaching and refereeing – all postponed until at least 30 May (in some cases, an online alternative will be made available so please check with your course provider)
All football clubs are still taking registrations for the 2020 season.
All team training should be suspended until 16 May, or two weeks prior to the start of the season.
22 March The covid19 pandemic has seriously affected football (and everything else). All local football has been put on hold till the start of May (for now). Clubs have been told to not train. The Phoenix are now in quarantine in Australia awaiting their first game of a rescheduled draw, while other clubs at the moment are playing A League games in front of empty stadiums. The feeling is getting stronger though, that the A League will very soon be put on hold like most other sports. Check out our A League pages. Keep safe and well everyone..
P.S. The A League season was suspended and the Phoenix came home. Will it resume?
16 March Rangers had a good work out in their first preseason game against Papamoa, who ended up comfortable winners. Rangers improved in each of the three thirds. Aaron Muggeridge scored with a calm slot past the keeper, running onto a ball from Jimmy Hart. Debuts from Isaiah, Ian, Quinton and Chris W.

Some Federation leagues news: Waiariki is a combination between Ngongy and Rotorua Utd. Melville and Old Blues have pulled out of the Fed Premiers, replaced by Huntly and West Ham(ilton).
Federation Leagues kick off on March 28, one week before BOP leagues. Click here for the draws.
2 March A fun club day for Plains Rangers at the Edgecumbe Sports Club on Saturday. There was a fairly even number of Rangers players and rugby players, well done too Rhylee and Zahara for being the only female players participating. There was a good football game first up, some nice goals and combinations. Highlight was Sione's nutmeg on the turn. Next up was a touch rugby game. Highlight was Chris's somersaulting dive for the try line. Finally there was netball and then some very nice food, many thanks to the kitchen. Here are a few pics, thanks Chris.
28 February The draws for the Federation Leagues has just come out. Neighbours Whakatane Town are in the Championship. Ngongotaha are now called Waiariki, they have dropped back in from the Northern League. Federation Leagues kick off on March 28, one week before BOP leagues. Click here for the draws.
26 February Updated... This Saturday is club day at the Edgecumbe Sports club, meet at 10.30am, fun games of football, touch, etc. Try hard to be there, to support the club in this opening day activity. Bring a $5 koha for food.
Coming up on March 29th is a sausage sizzle outside of Bunnings. People will be rostered on to work the stall.
22 February Lots of news... From the AGM: Many thanks to Christian, Chris and Margaret who are carrying on their roles running the club. We are looking for a coach for the women's team, If interested, please contact Christian, Margaret or Ranee. We are short of money. Anyone keen to sponsor, with anything from $500 through to naming rights sponsor, please contact us. Subs have remained the same (cheap compared to most clubs): Fees are $170, or $100 for students. Full or part payments can be given to Barrie at trainings or via internet banking to 01-0310-0056958-00 (make sure you reference your name!). If you register, you have to pay the subs. We also have a social sub of $50 for people who don't want to play, but want to be club members.
Registering: Registrations for the season are now available. Here is the URL to the MyCOMET registration portal https://mycomet-oceania.analyticom.de/en/login where you go to register. I have also included this link to a short registration help video which could be
useful as well, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AD0OwespZJQ&feature=youtu.be
When you are registering you’ll need to add Plains Rangers in the “Choose Seller” field of MyCOMET.
This will ensure the registration items for our club are displayed.
Also this year all players have to complete their profile before they can register. This means when you sign into
MyComet you will be taken to your ‘Personal Info” page. On this page there are 10 compulsory fields that you need
to complete before you are able to select ‘Register’ from the left-hand menu and continue with your registration.
All the compulsory fields are marked in red so, they are easily identified.
Our Phoenix fans are happy. The Nix scored a good 2 - 0 win in awful weather in Wellington on Friday night, to move up to 3rd on the ladder.
18 February Another top performance by the Phoenix on Saturday, as enjoyed by Matt, Chris, Bazza and 15,000 other people. The Nix got 5 players in the A League team of the week! Trainings are now Thursdays at 6pm. A reminder about the AGM this Thursday, 7.30 after training.
10 February Another good preseason kick around on Friday, with good numbers and a couple of new faces. Fridays to continue this week, then maybe a switch to Thursdays.
Good luck to young Rangers player Xavier Bain heading to have a trial in Spain next month. Show them your talent Xavier!
Sounds like some Rangers players are heading to Auckland for the Phoenix game this Saturday. Should be good!
2 February Another fun, full on preseason session. Lots of good play with a focus on communicating and combining with other players and not being selfish.
25 January A good turn out at the player muster last night. There will be some sore muscles after a 2 hour game. Welcome to the new players, any more newcomers welcome at pre-season trainings. For now these will continue to be Fridays at 6pm at the Edgecumbe Domain. After training some of the Phoenix followers went to Matt's place to watch the recorded Phoenix game and compare their skills, errors and goal shooting with the professionals!
20 January Plains Rangers player muster for 2020, happening this Friday (24th) at the Edgecumbe Domain, on the pitch behind the rugby field. Starts 6pm. Men and women players and senior high school students most welcome. Rangers usually play in BOP division one, in men's and women's leagues. Bring a water bottle! Hope that the Phoenix are winning while you run around! For more info: email us, text Wetts (men's coach) 0278111525, Chris (vice president) 0272381001, Ranee (women's manager) 0274679792.
13 January Sounds like Rangers first pre-season kick around game went very well on Friday. Enough players for 8 aside, plenty of goals scored. Look out for the next one, coming soon, date to be advised.
Jaiden's fantasy league team is topping our EPL league at the moment, with Frank Butler beating his dad Chris by 2 points in second place.
Oi Oi Rangers!
12 January The Nix equalled their best ever unbeaten run last night, with two excellent goals. Can they beat it, away to Brisbane in the heat this Saturday?? Happily in the top four now.
6 January 2020 Happy New Year to all football fans, especially Rangers, Phoenix fans. The Nix have now gone 8 games unbeaten. Another home game coming this Saturday.
30 December Sydney did very well to be a man down and 1 - 0 down for over an hour, and to win 2 - 1 against second placed Melb City.
28 December The Phoenix deliver again, a win in 35 degree temperatures away, seven games unbeaten. Playing excellent football. Who's going to Wellington to see them next Saturday? Bazza is, anyone else?
23 December Ditto, Nix dominated quite a lot against the league leaders Sydney. Conceded two soft goals, scored two good ones. Davila missed a sitter. Have a great Christmas everyone!
15 December The Nix can't make total domination against Victory, who had ten men in the end, pay. A 0 - 0 draw.
8 December Another 2 - 1 win for the Nix. Davila can score pens, Sotirio lobbed the keeper of his old club. The Nix are in the top six now.
1 December The Nix win again, dominating Adelaide away, playing good football. David Ball scores his first.
23 November The Nix get off the foot of the table with a win against Brisbane at home. Gutsy showings from Rufer and Cacace. Taylor scored then cleared off his own line. Check out our Nix pages.
9 November Looking forward to the Nix playing Victory on Sunday evening 6pm. The Nix were robbed of a draw by the VAR allowing a handball penalty decision against Louis Fenton to go ahead after it clearly struck his chest. Louis will go down in folklore for his aftermatch interview with Archie Thompson "100 per cent no pen because it doesn't even fucking hit my hand. It's fucked." Sadly Louis is now out injured with another shoulder dislocation.
30 October Bazza and sons braved the cold gale force winds to watch the Nix go down to Perth Glory.
The Federation is putting out feelers about the BOP Women's league next season and looking for feedback. Here is their message, if you want to say, talk to Ranee or Christian.
Hi Clubs
In recent years the number of teams entering into the Womens Bays 1 league has declined. At the recent Women's Forums some options were discussed on what format the players in these league would prefer, to enable clubs to be able to continue to field teams in this league. We have also had further discussions with our staff, and have come up with the following options:
Option One – 7 v 7
7 v 7 - with revised 7-a-side rules, field size and goal specifications
Normal season with games starting on the 5th April, no games Queens Birthday Weekend
Option Two – 15 week season
11 v 11
Calendar reviewed to play a shorter season. 15 week season as per the Juniors. Start date 3rd May, no games Queens Birthday, or the middle or last weekend of the school holidays. Last game scheduled for 30 August.
In the above two options, if numbers allowed we could look at running more localised leagues initially with a cross over at the end of the league to try and reduce the amount of travel involved.
Option 3 – League stays the same
11 v 11
Normal season with games starting on the 5th April, no games Queens Birthday Weekend
Competition Fees
In all of the above options the competition fees would be amended accordingly if required, depending on the final decision.
Can you please talk to the players and coaches involved with your current or potential Bay 1 Womens teams, and provide us with your clubs preferred option, and any other feedback by Monday 11th November.
A decision will be made based on the feedback supplied – so please ensure that you have sent in your preference by the date above. If you do not send in any feedback, then we will note that you are happy with the league in the current format.
Regards, Catherine
Catherine Clark
Competitions Manager, WaiBOP Football Federation
20 October. The Nix were desperately unlucky to lose to champions Syndney 2 - 1. Cacace red carded, no penalty given, Ball hit post, Davila scored, Rufer header just wide... Who's going to Wellington next weekend to watch them play Perth?
15 October The Phoenix season kicked off on Sunday, with a home loss to Western Utd. Nix had a couple of good chances but couldn't convert. The fans welcomed back ex-coach Rudan and captain Durante with plenty of boos, but gave Dura an ovation at the end. Keep tabs on our Phoenix pages, going back into history as well as current.
2 October Check out these cool photos of the men's awards. If anyone has pics of the women's awards, let Bazza know.
30 September Prize-giving day/night was great fun. The games combined with the rest of the sports club worked out really well, giving everyone a chance to get to know people, mix and mingle. The Islands theme night was lots of fun, check out the photos for costumes, tattoos, etc. The food was great. Some very cool awards, as listed below. That authentic islander Sione was asked to present the collegiate girls' rugby awards. He did so in good style. The dancing was fun. 4 September Answering my own question... Relics beat Whakatane to win the Cup, Otumoetai beat Taupo in the Bowl final.
It's pretty tight at the top of Rangers Fantasy league, with Jaiden leading from Ben and Andy by only a handful of points. Perhaps Muggsy really isn't going to enter this year, even he would have trouble coming back from this far back!
The article about Bazza in East Bay Life! There are a few good other photos from the game against Kawerau in the online version of it, scroll down to the bottom to see them.
31 August It's the.... yawn... off season! Keeping us going: Rangers EPL Fantasy League, looking forward to the break up in four weeks and looking forward to the Wellington Phoenix season starting in six weeks.
Anyone know who won the Miller Cup and Bowl finals today??
25 August Rangers women had a good outing in their last game of the seaon. Here's Ranee's report:
Tauranga City VS Plains Rangers
2 - 1.
Woohoo last post for the season........
What a way to end the season off ladies. The first half we dominated the game and it showed by scoring in the first 3 minutes with nice foot work from Mishka. However the goalie tried to take the ball and fumbled. Amber picked it up and scored WELL DONE AMBER. We had plenty of shots on goal, however nothing eventuated from them, just got plenty of practice in for next year! In the second half we were having some little sleeps, however when it counted we were there and we still got shots on goal. Beautiful corner kicks from Amber and Mishka. Awesome passing of ball to players with some mishaps passes as well. Some wicked tackling and pushing. Nice saving of the goals Joe once again. Joe you do an awesome job in goal. Karen you had a great game in the back, you had lots of action on your side. Laura once again great game you had and you did great work on clearing the ball. Mikaela nice body work on the ball from stopping it with your head, your chest and your legs and the outcome is your ball marks.
Everyone had a great last game of the season and it been a pleasure playing with you ladies this season. Catch you all at prize giving for some more fun and laughter and drinks.
20 August Watch out for some photos from the game in the Beacon this week. Some good ones came through to potentially be used - of Carl, Matt, Wetts and Ronan.
Jaiden and Andy lead the way in our EPL Fantasy League after two rounds. Right, Muggsy, you've given us all a two week start, must be time you signed up again. Anyone else had better hurry or they'll be left too far behind. Scroll down to July 19 to see details of joining the comp.
17 August Rangers men wrapped up their season with a win against local rivals Kawerau 1 - 0. Rangers made hard work of it, hitting the woodwork twice and narrowly missing chances. Eventually Kawerau's keeper couldn't hold onto a shot from right back Shane Baillie and it went in. Kawerau lost a player, dissent led to a red card. Player of the day centre back Carl Imlig. Read the report.
The Plains Rangers break up prize giving will be held with the rest of the Edgecumbe Sports Club on Saturday 28 September. Theme is Islands style. $15 entry - DJ and finger food. Also talked about games of netball, rugby & football during the day.
11 August Rangers women had a muddy 3 - 3 draw at Blue Rovers. Here is Ranee's colourful report:
Plains vs Blue Rovers 3-3
So I said our 1st half was rubbish .....( Even tho we were 2-1 up at half time) I was meaning this as a comparison to how we usually play, the fact we played on muddy wet shitty field and our lack of control (again wet slippery ball didn't help matters) and our position structure which wasn't the best. We did how ever manage to get 3 shots on goal before Karen put a pearler in from the backline, which bounced over the keeper and in. Mishka with some lovely foot work going 1-1 with keeper and scoring in left side. I'd like to thank Zahara for picking up the slack in the midfield for Macca who was deff not 100 today (subbing off at half time) . 2nd half waaaaayyu better! Mishka scoring again straight off the bat. We sent the ball wide out of the mud pit! And had loads more shots. Welcome back to Jo in goal you had a great game in there today, saving loads of attempts! Welcome back also to Jenny after injury working hard what ever position we put u in. Amber playing well down the left wing, chasing balls and defending. Gemma played awesome sticky to their main play maker and shutting her down! Thanks to our ring ins!
Players of the day today (couldn't decide so have 2 this weekend):
Po (Laura) you work hard every game covering in our backline. Cleaning up any loose balls and defending our goal!
Mishka for your hard work up front. Fighting for position and scoring goals, fancy foot work putting pressure on their backline (pissing meeah right off) if u end up looking like a panda can we have a pic plz?
Well done both of you well deserved today.
Silly willy for Jenny today for getting her tail on her onesie stuck in the seat. Although I feel Ranee should have had it for her falling on her arse, sliding skid mark on the pitch.
Thanks for travelling and playing in the poor conditions. See u all Wednesday at training.
10 August Rangers men had a deserved win at Te Puke today, 2 - 0. Goals to Ronan and Wetts. Matt Eveleens player of the day. Report on the game.
Who will top Rangers Fantasy League this year??! After one game
Ben Burr leads. If you haven't joined up yet, be in quick. Scroll down to 19 July for details.
7 August Phoenix on tonight at 9.30pm, looks like they're missing three experienced players, including captain Taylor and Mexican attacker Davila, will be a challenge to beat Brisbane Strikers.
Rangers women have Blue Rovers in the cup this Sunday, away.
3 August Rangers did pretty well at Rotorua, taking the lead, conceeding two (not so good), then having a number of good chances in the second half. However, a 2 - 1 loss. Ronan player of the day. Read the match report.
Last chance to join our Fantasy League!! Be in to have fun, all welcome. Scroll down to 19 July for details.
The first chance to get look at the Wellington Phoenix for the new season. They play away against Brisbane Strikers on Wednesday night, 9.30pm, in the FFA Cup. It's meant to be on Sky Sport.
Also, there's an excellent football movie on at the Rialto in Tauranga at the moment. The Keeper. It's about Man City goalkeeper Bert Trautmann. He was a prisoner of war in England, grabbed out of prison for his football skills and famously played on with a broken neck to win an FA Cup final. Lots of other elements to this story too. Well worth watching.
30 July Rangers men DO have a game this weekend. The first of a bottom four one round, away to Rotorua. Check out all the fixtures on our BOP draw page.
28 July Rangers women had some chances, but couldn't convert any. Tauranga City scored some nice goals to win 6 - 0. Here's the report. Watch out for some photos in the Beacon.
The draw is out for the Knock Out Cup. Rangers women have a bye first up!
21 July Rangers women put in a top effort today, much better result than the previous two times they have played Te Puke. Ranee's report:
Plains vs Te Puke 0-7
Damn awesome game today ladies you should all be proud of yourselves, there was lots of passing ball to feet happening, we had a few ball volley comps happening as well, nice work Stevie. We really worked well as a team, backed each other up and stuck to our players. The first half we held them out well with only letting them have 3 goals and we spent a bit of time in their half, having some shots. Come the second half well we were having a little sleep when the game started, but we came back and kept fighting, and we had some more brilliant shots on goal. Nice work Kiahli playing with a broken arm, (that you broke in work) lol. Stevie great game from you again nice shooting, nice passing, nice running. Gemma nice game and nice dropping and covering as well. Samantha nice game back, just watch how high to lift feet. Back line you had a brilliant game, nice dropping back and covering and picking up and clearing of the ball. Karen nice little slow motion run in the middle and getting around 3 players. Another great game in goal Ranee some great saves and one epic miss save!
SILLYWILLY - Goes to Matthew not listening to girls when subbing, oh and for leaving at home pen and paper.
P. O. D - goes to whole team, was to hard to just pick ones and we had an awesome game, well done ladies.
In the men's Cup and Bowl semifinals, two scores are listed as draws, if anyone knows the result of the penalty shoot outs, send Bazza a text 0274637791. The games were TCU Bay 2 v Whakatane Bay 1, and Whakatane Bay 2 v Taupo Bay 1.
20 July Rangers bounced back from last week with a 5 - 3 win against Te Puke. JP, Ben and Jaiden scored the goals, with Sam player of the day, followed by Husnul. Here's the report.
19 July A good training last night. The reds got on a couple of rolls and scored heaps of goals, but the coloureds scored in golden goal extra time to win the game! JP managed to stick Sione in the eye. Hoping he can see straight tomorrow.
Chris has set up the new EPL Fantasy League, Plains Rangers edition. Log on here, (opens in new tab), choose a squad, team name, then find the Plains Rangers league and enter the code jzy07d
Get your team organised before the season starts (Sat August 10th) , so you can give Chris and Muggsy a run for their money.
16 July The Federation has followed the wishes of the clubs and organised the women's season after the league finishes into a knock out Cup and Bowl competition, running from 4 August to 25 August. Each team will get a minimum of two games.
14 July Ranee's report on the women's game today
Plains Rangers vs Taupo.
0 - 8.
Coming into this game we all knew it was going to be a hard day at the office, and the weather didnt help out at all either: from sun shine, to wind, to overcast, to pissing down with rain and then it chucked in some hail for good measure.
We kept the fight alive on the field we never gave up, we put in some awesome passes to each other. We also manage to get some good shots on goal as well.
Great running up front today Gemma and good shots on goal as well. Kiahli good work up the front and some epic falling too. Zahara great work in the mids today. Big thanks to the back line today for all your hard work today. Your chase and follow was good with some good clearing of the ball thanks Karen, Mikaela, Amber, Joe, Georgia and Julie even though you got a nice own goal today LOL.
Thanks to Ranee for being in goal, nice work today.
Big thanks to our ring-ins today as well. You guys all had a great game and helped out lots.
Congratulations to Stevie for getting player of the day. You had an amazing game today, even though you played every position on field including yours in the mid field, nice work.
Sillywilly goes to Mikaela. You'll get a laugh out of this. She fell over thin air and landed on the ground. (Think that's the second game thats happened in.)
Catch you all at training Wednesday night.
13 July A bizarre game, with a serious injury and refereeing decisions having a big impact.
Rangers started the game well. A Jimmy Hart free kick after 10 mins was well saved. The corner was headed in by Jimmy for an early lead. Rangers controlled a lot of the half and led 1 - 0 at the break. A couple of minutes into the second half, Xavier Bain was flattened by a strong tackle. He dislocated his elbow in landing heavily. Play was stopped for some time and Rangers were put off their stride somewhat. Midway through the half a hesitation in defence saw Kawerau equalise. The lift in their confidence was followed by two well struck further Kawerau goals. Rangers bounced back when Sam Christieson fed Petir Gray who slotted it past the keeper. Another Jimmy free kick got through to Petir at the far post and he turned it in to make it 3 - 3. Late in the game referee Dave Taylor had a big say in proceedings, sending off three Rangers players for various infringements and awarding a last minute penalty, which meant Kawerau won 4 - 3. Petir was player of the day, with Ronan a close second.
7 July Rangers men competed well, putting in a much improved scoreline against Katikati, but losing in the end 4 - 0. Player of the day Jimmy Hart.
Our report: The game started out evenly, with Rangers first chance a Petir Gray header that went wide after ten minutes. After thirty minutes of even contest, Rangers were unlucky when a Kati shot took a deflection and wrong footed keeper Christian Wetting. Ten minutes later, Kati were awarded a penalty, which they converted.
In the second half Kati scored when keeper Wetts came out of the box to clear a ball. The visitors took the throw in, while Rangers were appealing that the throw should be theirs, and crossed it to tap in. Later in the game Kati made it sure with a well worked goal. James Hart was a rock in defence, Jamaal James tackled like a demon, Petir Gray worked his usual magic, Wetts pulled off several fine saves and Sione Lotu played with his shirt on back to front!
Sadly, Rangers women have had to default tomorrow's game against Blue Rovers.
30 June Well done Rangers women! A win, Zahara the scorer. Here's Ranee's report:
Plains vs Ngongotaha,
1-0 win.
Both teams came out fighting and it was a very evenly matched game. Was very impressed with our 1st half, playing ball to feet, out wide, talking, passing, shots on goal and just having fun. Unfortunately unable to put any in the back of the net 0-0 at half. Our kick off in second half, again came out playing hard. We had a few close calls from Ngongie but our defence managing to keep them out. Finally after what looked like a scramble Zahara slotted 1 into the back of the net. We had chance to increase our lead to 2-0 with a penalty unfortunately saved by the keeper. Thank you to our ring ins today you played hard and fitted in well with the team. Well done to our 11 who turned up, you all played awesome!!
P. O. D Sasha
D. O. D Jenny an out loud inappropriate prostitute comment to the opposition! (did I say that out loud?!)
29 June Rangers, with Wetts on the field, Sione in goal, lost 3 - 0 to TCU, a close game but a couple of costly errors. Good to see Pete and Ali back. Petir player of the day.
22 June Rangers men put up a great fight in the first half at Whakatane and then had a dead set penalty not given. Whakatane then capitalised and went on to take the game, 5 - 0 in the end. Sam player of the day at left back. Injuries, injuries, injuries. Good to see Xavier and Corey on board. The report.
Sadly, Rangers women have defaulted tomorrow's game at Tauranga City.
16 June Rangers women's game had a red card in it. Here's Ranee's report:
Plains v Te Puke.
0-11
Lovely weather with a little altercation!
Well ladies for the few seconds of the game we were having a little sleep and Te Puke got a goal, we woke up and started playing the game. It was a tough game but we kept playing and kept fighting. We had a goalie change from Ash coming out and Ranee going in (bloody foot). Back line you girls had an epic but hard game. Strikers did a lot of running. Wingers/midfield did some great work. Ladies we did some great passes and running onto balls and chasing and following up of balls. Zahara you had an amazing game in the midfield. Gemma you had a great game as well some great tackles and passing. Mikaela you were having a great game in the mids lots of passing and great kicks and talking. Jenny awesome game from playing centre back to right back even when you keep drifting our of your position. Nice to have both Julie and Caitlin back on the field.

Kudos to the Edgecumbe College boys: Bon, Kaleb and Ben for backing up from their game, driving two hours and playing again to help out. The girls as usual had lots of fun on their two night away trip. Onesies, injuries... Players of the day Tara and Bazza. Most injured: Husnul, Pat, Tara and Laura and the two silly Taupo players who ran into Wetts! The reports.
Ranee's womens report:
Rangers Vs Taupo. 0-12.
Well we went down in style with our hats, gumboots and onesies.
We played a good game, with the wind for and against, our passing around the ball was really good and it showed in how we got the ball up the field. There was plenty of talk happening on the field. Thank you Carl for being there for our kick off much appreciated. Tara and Laura you both had a tough and good game in the centre backs with lost of chasing back and cleaning up and covering. Hope you both are feeling better. Zahara you had another great game on the wing with lots of tackling and taking on players. Mishka great play you sure brought the ball away with you. How's the marks? Samantha you did some great work holding your players in the mids. Ash great game in goal, it was a tough day getting the balls - low, wide, high and very high. Thanks Emma for coming and playing once again great work in the back line. It was a great tough game played all round.

Rest up ladies, can catch you all at training Wednesday.
1 June Rangers ended up with a hard-to-take loss at home to Otumoetai today. The visitors led midway through the second half and Rangers all but grabbed at least a point in the final minutes. Husnul Gray had a goal bound shot brilliantly saved by the keeper, Rangers keeper Christian Wetting came up for a corner and powered a header into the goal. The ref however had seen a push elsewhere in the area and disallowed the goal after seemingly awarding it to begin with. 0 - 1. Jimmy 'The Wrestler' Hart was player of the day. The report.
Next Saturday Rangers play a double header at Taupo, both the women's and men's teams.
Today Wetts had to wear a Chelsea shirt, because of a bet he had made on the result of the Europa League final. Tomorrow morning there will be lots of interest in the Champions League final between Liverpool and Spurs, being played in Madrid. On Monday morning at 6.30am the NZ Under 20s play Colombia in the second round of the World Under 20 Cup.

25 May Rangers had the walking wounded playing today, our one sub came off injured, Sam played 90 with a sore hammy, Bazza got 70 at right half.... Lost 2 - 0 at Te Puke, who played well. Jamaal's playing 'on the edge' earned him player of the day. Wett's charge up field from goal was halted by a cynical foul that earned a yellow card. Hopefully our girls have more players to choose from tomorrow at Edgecumbe v Blue Rovers. A report.
22 May Check out these pics of the men's game at Otumoetai. Thanks Chris! For pics of the women's game, you need to get yesterday's Beacon. Cool photos girls! Also have a look at photo of the week. For some reason, Chris wants it posted for all to see!!

Rangers Vs Ngongotaha
4 - 0
Damn girls what a game we all had today and the score shows it. We all worked like a well oiled machine on the field from excellent passes to running onto balls and fighting for that ball as well, and just straight out not giving up and keeping the team spirit alive. Well done ladies give yourselves a pat on the back. Big thanks to Samantha for helping out Ngongotaha and playing for them when they had no players. Laura you where having a great game in mids till injury struck. You were doing some great passes and used your body stopping the balls. Rest up and take it easy! Back line you girls had a great game, with your chasing back, picking up players and clearing the ball. 4 May Rangers went to league leaders Katikati and were determined to put up a fight. Success, with lots of good personal battles, despite the score blowing out to 10 - 0 in the end. Sammy player of the day, with Ronan also having his best game. Jords was in goal with Wetts in the midfield. At the aftermatch, the Katikati spokesperson likened Petir's skill to Eden Hazard. That's rather a large compliment, even if you're not a Chelsea fan!
The Phoenix put in a determined effort last night, but still went out 3 - 1 away to Victory. New coach announced: Ufuk Talay.

28 April Rangers women's bubble burst... Ranee's report:
Rangers vs Taupo
0-9 loss
1st home game on our new field and what a tough game it was! Taupo came out fighting and put together beautiful through balls and passes to come away with the win. Unfortunately We just didn't have our mojo today. We still played hard and in great spirit like we always do. 2nd half was played waaaaay better, we started putting together passes and even had some shots on goal. Welcome and well played on the wing today to Zahara. Awesome work in the mids by Gemma and Jenny, who hassled the opposition and took some hard balls on their bodies. Well done on your shots at goal Gem, keep them going they will eventually go in. Awesome job by our back line again and Jojo in goal who had to work hard all day! Unfortunately we converted our penalty and don't get the 3 points for that! Well done girls, tough game but you all tried hard. Win some u lose some.

Thanks to everyone who came down to support us today much appreciated!

23 April Not much to report from Rangers men's loss at Rotorua. Andy scored. Wett made quite a few saves, including one with his face! Petir player of the day. Rotorua 4, Rangers 1.
At least the Phoenix lightened up the weekend with a 94th minute winner, Krishna hattie.
14 April Another good performance from Rangers women as they earned a 2 - 2 draw at Tauranga Blue Rovers. Kiahli two goals, Macca player of the day. Read the report.
Phoenix bad news, that coach Mark Rudan is leaving at the end of the season, balances out the news that they have definitely made the play offs. Big game this Sunday, home to Melbourne City, to try and earn a home play off.
13 April A good hard first home game for Rangers men. Jamaal got an early yellow card, Taupo scored a goal from a corner, with Rangers players questioning whether the ball had gone out over the goal line and back into play again. Ali Scott had a heavy landing and has damaged his shoulder. Jamaal player of the day. Taupo won 1 - 0. The report.

Ranee's report:
What a great start to the season Ladies, you should all be proud of your efforts today. For our 1st game we gelled really well together on the pitch, we passed the way we were facing, spread the ball wide and put together sequence play. Awesome crosses from Shayna, Kiki and Mish. Some amazing through balls from Laura and Macca resulting in some fab goals. 5 to be exact! 2 for Kiki 8mins and 26mins in. 1 for Mish 18mins 1st half and some great shots from Ranee 30mins hitting the post. 2nd half Mish with her 2nd 12mins in, Rach putting pressure on their keeper and put away a header goal 31mins in. Ranee and Gemma taking great shots unfortunately not finding the back of the net and Jenny scoring a goal 5mins after subbing on, but was unfortunately disallowed due to being offside . Our back line (Tara, Po, Amber, Karen, Jojo) played an awesome defensive game keeping the opposition at a zero result. Ash had a good 1st game in goal. Overall we played bloody brilliant!! Well done ladies
Player of the day = TEAM
Silly Willy = TARA (NgongoMataha in TePuke)

30 March Field set up on the Edgecumbe Domain. Everyone working... measuring and marking lines, digging holes, putting up goals, spraying lines. Pitch 95 m by 68 m. Highlight: Chris and Andy hanging from the crossbars trying to get the slight upward bow out of them. Next door, the Edgecumbe rugby team were getting ready to play Matata.
Phoenix had another fine win tonight, David Williams hat trick.

Another good Phoenix win last night, totally dedicated to the families of the tragic, horrifying shootings in Christchurch. Mandi's free kick was about as good as Caleb's goal yesterday!
17 March A minute silence in respect to the terrible events in Christchurch on Friday preceeded Rangers next preseason hit out. Rangers men had a very good work out in their game hosting Rotorua United. In hot conditions at the Edgecumbe Domain, Rangers were determined to be patient passing the ball around. This proved their undoing in the first section of the 3 x 30 minutes game. They were caught on the ball in front of goal and the visitors scored. Up front Sam Christieson went close twice for Rangers, hitting the post and scraping the post. Rotorua pounced on a moment of indecision after the break and doubled their lead, but Rangers kept up their passing game and a good move saw Xavier Bain score a nice goal, beating the keeper from 20 metres. Soon after, Caleb Hyndman had Rangers back on level terms with a thunderous shot that dipped and flew into the back of the net. Into the final third, Ben Burr had a couple of chances for Rangers, but Rotorua scored with a well taken goal. Rangers showed excellent attitude to keep their game going and were rewarded when a free kick was won and Petir Gray hit a shot round the wall that the keeper couldn't keep out. Rangers kept up their work rate in the heat, and after playing several triangle passes, young Ben Burr had a shot that was parried but Xavier raced in to blast it home. Rangers 4, Rotorua 3. It was a competitive, evenly fought game, good value for both teams.
15 March Rangers men have another preseason game tomorrow (Sat) at Edgecumbe against Rotorua United, starts 2pm. Players be there 12.30pm. At training last night Jaiden looked like he was saving up all his accurate shots at goal for another day! Maybe Saturday, maybe not.
The teams are out for the BOP leagues:
Bay One: Plains Rangers,Katikati, Taupo Lakers, Otumoetai Legends, Whakatane Town, Te Puke, Rotorua Utd, Kawerau Sports, Tauranga Blue Rovers, Tauranga City.
Bay Two: Otumoetai Special Reserve, Otumoetai Green, Whakatane Town, Papamoa A, Papamoa B, Rotorua Utd, Ngongotaha, Papamoa Old Boys, Tauranga City Relics.
Women's Bay One: Ngongotaha AFC, Plains Rangers, Te Puke, Tauranga City, Taupo, Whakatane Town, Papamoa , Tauranga Blue Rovers, Otumoetai.
10 March Rangers had a good first pre-season game, hosting Otumoetai. They played on a pitch at the Edgecumbe Domain, with Awakeri's field not deemed playable. Near the end of the first third, Andy Willis flicked the ball through to Jamaal James, who scored with a calm finish. The visitors replied with a well taken goal. In the second 'half' Petir Gray scored a screamer from 25 metres, but Otumoetai replied straight away when Rangers defence didn't deal with a bouncing high ball. Into the final stanza and the visitors scored after a one-two around the last Rangers defender. Rangers 2, Otumoetai 3. It was good to see a debut from Ben Burr, who combined well with Caleb Hyndman and Sione Lotu up front in the middle 30 minutes. Welcome back to Jamaal, who did well in the midfield, combining with Petir and Hus Gray very well. The Edgecumbe Rugby Club hosted the footballers afterwards with a great feed.
On Sunday, the Phoenix blitzed Central Coast 8 - 2 away from home, to climb to 4th on the table. Should make for a good run towards to
the finals. Check out our Phoenix pages.
This Saturday Rangers have another pre-season game lined up, against Rotorua Utd. Venue TBC.

4 February Good to see ex-Rangers player Juan Propato in the crowd at the Perth Glory game, sadly Juan wearing a Phoenix shirt didn't influence the result as the understrength Nix lost to the league leaders 3 - 0. After our kickabout this Thursday, we can go home and watch the Nix attempt to knock over Newcastle Jets.
The Plains Rangers AGM is coming up, after training on Thursday 14th.
26 January The Nix grabbed a 1 - 0 win against Melbourne City tonight, thanks to superb display from keeper Kurto in the second half. We were great in the first half, but Kurto pulled off heaps of saves in the second.

Check out our Phoenix pages.
All Whites' greatest ever player Wynton Rufer had a heart attack during the week, but after CPR from bystander, he is expected to make a full recovery. If you have never seen him play, have a look at these goals he scored for the Auckland Kingz when he was player coach in their first year in the Aussie National League, at age 37. The first one is amazing! His nephew Alex Rufer is playing centre midfield for the Phoenix.
9 January 2019 Happy New Year everyone!!! For Phoenix fans it's been a great new year so far. The unbeaten run continues (7 matches). Can the Nix make a new club record this Saturday? It'll be tough, with their 3rd game in a week. A couple of Rangers players will be in Wellington to try and cheer them on!
