Plains Rangers AFC

25 & 26 May 2019
Te Puke 2, Plains Rangers men 0
Plains Rangers women 3, Tauranga Blue Rovers 1

Plains Rangers women took pride of place for the club at the weekend. They hosted Tauranga Blue Rovers, who they had drawn with in the first round. Blue Rovers caught Rangers asleep in the first ten minutes to open the scoring. Rangers came to life: playing balls to feet, sending it wide, crossing in well and scoring goals! Ranee Whiting scored from a beautiful Gemma Stuckey cross. Mishka Barry put away the second and player of the day Gemma Stuckey backed herself to score the third. Blue Rovers came out fighting in the second half but they couldn't get past the hard working Rangers back line. Goal keeper Ash Allan also did some great work. The final score was Plains Rangers 3, Tauranga Blue Rovers 1.
On Saturday, an injury-hit Plains Rangers men's outfit cobbled together a team to play Te Puke away. Rangers held their own for the first half an hour. However, Te Puke had the luxury of a full subs bench of fit players to roll on and off and it started to tell. With five minutes of the half left, Rangers were opened up by a good passing move through the midfield and Te Puke scored. Rangers best chance of the half was Sione Lotu being put through , but the defence scrambled back to block his shot in the nick of time.
In the second half Rangers defended well and tried to create chances. However, Te Puke got away, with the Rangers defence appealing in vain for offside, to score and earn a 2 – 0 win. Player of the day for Rangers was hard working Jamaal James, who tackled like a demon in defence. This Saturday Rangers men are at home to Otumoetai Legends and will hope to have some more players to choose from. Kick off at the Edgecumbe Domain is at 2.30pm.
