Plains Rangers FC

9 September 2023
Tauranga City Juggernauts 2, Rangers men 1

Plains Rangers last game of the season against the league leaders Tauranga was always going to be a hard game to win. The first half of the game was quite even with both teams putting shots on goal and competing well in each other's half.
The first goal came in the early part of the second half. With Elijah Wetting breaking out from his own half and playing a lovely through ball for Hamish Wilde. Hamish then beat his defender and kept his composure to make the keeper the dive the wrong way, giving Hamish an open goal to score in to.
Tauranga were under pressure to score, as they not used to going behind, having only lost one game all season. Tauranga replied quickly, by going up field to put in a cross that one of their forwards headed past the Rangers keeper. With the score now even at 1-1 Tauranga continued to pile on attack after attack. They hit the Rangers crossbar twice more with the Rangers digging in with their defensive efforts. With only 10 mins to go the Tauranga side scored from a good offensive move putting Rangers behind in the score for the first time. Unfortunately Rangers ran out of time to change the score and the game ended with at 2-1 result for Tauranga.
The Rangers player of the day was Elijah Wetting and the club farewells Carl Imlig who is off to further his footballing career in Australia!

Thanks Chris for the report.
