An excellent first half performance was not enough for
Gary Fowell Builders Plains Rangers when they traveled to play the high
flying Otumoetai on Saturday.
Rangers started with a hiss and a roar. Jaiden Ibbetson had the first
shot on goal within seconds and draw a good save from the home team keeper.
Five minutes later the lively left winger had robbed the defence of the
ball and rolled the ball into the net. Rangers were well worth the lead,
dominating the midfield through captain Ben McPherson and player of the
day James Krause and putting together some useful attacks. Strikers Tom
Davison and Aaron Muggerdige both went close. Late in the half, against
the run of play, Otumoetai equalised with a header following a good team
move.
In the second half Rangers couldn't keep their domination going, and the
home team hit the front when a long low shot crept in at the far post.
Midway through the half another headed goal made the job tough for Rangers,
although Krause went close after a great ball in from the right wing.
The final score was Otumoetai 3 Plains Rangers 1.
This Saturday Rangers are at home to Whakatane Town in what should be
an entertaining local derby. Kick off at Awakeri is at 2.30 pm.
