The closure of the Awakeri fields on the weekend meant
that Gary Fowell Builders Plains Rangers home clash with high flying Otumoetai
was postponed till August 27.
This Saturday Rangers will need to be at their best for a local derby.
They meet Whakatane Town at Rex Morpeth Park, with a likely kickoff time
of 12.30pm.
In the BOP Women's league, Rangers were off to a good start in their game
at Te Puke. Rangers made space and created a few opportunities by way
of some good structured football. Unfortunately Te Puke's speed and accuracy
made sure Rangers were in for a tough game. Te Puke put five goals away
in the first half; which, if it were not for player of the day Amy Campbell
in goal, it could have been many more. Amy played with a lot of heart
and kept her head in the game. Also there were commendable results from
our midfielders and wingers who managed to play some great triangles out
of our own half right up to the goal box. The second half which brought
not only the falling of rain but also of the team's spirit, saw a lot
more goals past the line but all in all the Rangers were adamant not to
let it get to them. They played heartily through the rain and held their
heads up to the final whistle. The score was non-reflective of how they
played; final score 14-0 to Te Puke.
This Sunday Rangers women are home to Taupo.
