The steady rain and lightning and thunder made for an
interesting backdrop when Gary Fowell Builders Plains Rangers played Ngongotaha
on Saturday.
Rangers were unlucky to strike the home team when their first team had
no game. Consequently it was a strong Ngongotaha side that took the early
lead, capitalizing on a goalbox melee to score. The home team made the
best of a good opening thirty minutes, taking a three nil lead before
Rangers hit back. A long throw in by captain Christian Wetting found striker
Jeff Krause in front of the Ngongotaha goal. He did well to beat his man
and fire it home. The remainder of the half was well contested, with both
teams playing good attacking football, and keeping the brave spectators
well entertained. Cameron Wills combined with strikers and midfield to
good effect. Krause and Jeremy Hawkes both had shots saved.
The second half was a fairly even affair, with Ben McPherson creating
gaps down his wing. James Krause was unfortunate to hit the crossbar with
the well performed Ngongotaha keeper beaten. However, the home team sewed
the game up with a fourth goal. The final score Ngongotaha 4, Plains Rangers
1, and with that the rain stopped!
While this was a disappointing result for Rangers, there was good quality
football played. In good form for Rangers were Mark Jeynes, Jono Whitaker
and Wills. This Saturday Rangers are at home to Te Puke. Kick off at Awakeri
is at 2.30 pm.
