Plains Rangers were out to consolidate their good recent form when they hosted Te
Puke in soccer’s BOP Division Two on Saturday.
Rangers got off to a good start. An attack into the Te Puke penalty area brought a foul
on centre midfielder Dan Logan. Logan put away the resulting penalty comfortably.
After fifteen minutes Rangers doubled their lead, Logan collecting the ball 20 metres
from goal and driving a super shot into the bottom corner of the visitors’ goal. Despite
a healthy share of Rangers possession, the Te Puke defence kept the home team out
for the remainder of the half.
After the interval, the game continued along similar lines. However, midway through
the half, a quick Te Puke attack ended with a well hit goal to bring the game back to
life. However, with fifteen minutes to go, the Te Puke keeper stumbled over a
clearance and Aaron Parker was on hand to roll the ball into the net. Logan then
rounded off his hat-trick with the final goal, earning the player of the day plaudits.
The final score: Plains Rangers 4, Te Puke 1.
This was a workmanlike effort from the home team. Apart from Logan, others to
shine were centre defender Mark Thompson, and left half Craig Julian.
Next Saturday Rangers are away to Rotorua Boys High School., who have also started
the season strongly.
