Ngongotaha Lakes 1, Rangers men 1
Rangers women 1, Waiariki

Plains Rangers men travelled to play Ngongotaha Lakes on Saturday. Pitch conditions at Jessie Martin Park were excellent, unaffected by the rain showers throughout the game. After an even tussle, Rangers eventually opened the scoring after striker Eli Thomas pounced on a loose ball in the Ngongotaha goal area and finished calmly. The home team turned up the pressure, and a raid down the left was sent across goal. The ball was laid back for a powerful strike from 20m that gave keeper Christian Wetting no chance of saving it. Earle Tuhimata went close to taking the lead back for the visitors, following a great turn on the end of an excellent team passing sequence, but his shot went narrowly wide. The game was locked up 1 – 1 at the break.
After the restart the play became quite fragmented and Rangers struggled to get a flow going for quite a while. Ngongotaha had a couple of great chances to take the lead, but put their shots wide with the goal at their mercy. Rangers did eventually get back into gear and Ben McPherson's goal-bound shot was miraculously palmed over the crossbar by the home team keeper. Late in the piece, Ngongotaha got the ball into the Rangers goal and looked to have won the game, but referee Darrin Beatty ruled it out for off-side. The final score: Ngongotaha Lakes 1, Plains Rangers 1.
Rangers will know they were rather fortunate to escape with a point from this game, but they did prove they could play patches of good football. Their player of the day was right back Anaaru Awhimate.
This Saturday Rangers men are at home to Rotorua side Waiariki FC. Kick off at the Edgecumbe Domain is at 2.30pm.
On Sunday, Plains Rangers women hosted Waiariki in the Bay Women's League. Rangers were full of enthusiasm for their first home game and started out strongly, using a good passing game. The home team dominated the possession in the first half and gave Waiariki few opportunities. After 16 minutes, Rose Sinkinson scored with a well-taken free kick. Rangers led 1 – 0 at the break.
The home team continued their possession-based game in the second half, but Waiariki did get more breakaways and one of these resulted in the equaliser. Rangers continued to play well, but couldn't find the winner. The final score was Plains Rangers 1, Waiariki 1.
Player of the day was Megan Wait, who shone on the wing, being part of some good moves and making some strong runs.
This Sunday Rangers women are away to Lakes FC in Rotorua.

Ranee's report: Us Vs Waiariki, 1 - 1

What a great day for soccer today, the ladies were all fired up and ready for a fantastic game.
The ladies started out strong and had a great passing game on, and everything you are learning at trainings you are putting into play on the field and it is noticeable and paying off.
In the first half we held possession of the ball for quite a lot of the half, and we held the Waiariki team out for all of that first half and didn't give them many opportunities to have shots at the goal.
A beautiful free kick from Rose Sinkinson 16 minutes in resulted in the first goal for the season for the team . Nice work Rose.
Come the second half we picked up where we left off at half time, keeping that possession going and the passing game was working wonders for us all. Waiariki had a few runaway moments however they did get a few shots on goal, and one just happen to make it in , but we didn't let that stop us from coming back hard and having plenty more shots on goal.
Ladies we had plenty of shots at goal and did amazing work on the field. Back line you all did an amazing job today holding that line and paying to our strengths.
Fantastic work today ladies you all should be proud of yourselves, keep putting everything you are learning from training into practice on the field and we will get more results like today with more goals.
Congratulations to Megan Wait for getting player of the day, you had an awesome game on the wing and making some great plays and great runs up the field.
