Plains Rangers AFC

5th June 2021
TCU 5, Plains Rangers 2

Plains Rangers did not have a good start to their away game at Tauranga City on Saturday.
The home side scored four goals in the first 30 minutes, which would drop the heads of most Bay Two football teams. However, this spurred the Rangers into action. In the first minute of the second half young Elijah Wetting pounced on an ineffective goalkeeper save to score the Rangers' first goal. Less than ten minutes later Rangers scored again. A long pass assist from Elijah was controlled and scored by striker Phil Ballingall to halve the deficit. Rangers continued to apply pressure and had several other promising attacking moves to keep the Tauranga team on the back foot. Unfortunately for Rangers, the home side scored again which made the score 5-2 and relieved most of the pressure on the hosts. This ended up being the final score.
The scoreline didn't reflect the 60 mins of domination by Rangers who had let the game slip away from them in the first 30 minutes. Player of the day was Elijah Wetting. Special mention also to the stand-in goalie Sione Lotu, who played really well in an unfamiliar role.
This week Rangers are at home to Rotorua United at Edgecumbe Domain with a 2pm kick off.
