Plains Rangers AFC

24th July 2021
Plains Rangers 0, Papamoa Old Boys 1

The Plains Rangers players knew they were in for a hard game against the league leaders Papamoa Old Boys on Saturday
The weather was perfect and there was a good size crowd of supporters on the side line
The game started with both sides playing good passing football
The visitors had the best of the early chances to score but the Rangers keeper Christian Wetting produced a couple of top saves
Rangers fashioned some good on goal shots as well but the score was still 0-0 at half time
In the second half the intensity increased with the referee handing out a yellow card to a Papamoa player for a late tackle on the outstanding right wing Shane Baillie
The play was going from end to end with corner kicks being saved leading to attacks happening straight back down the other end of the field
Unfortunately for the Rangers one such attack caught the defense out and the visitors scored
The Rangers came back straight away and nearly scored with the fleet footed striker Sione Lotu getting in to a one on one with the keeper with the ball ending up just going above the cross bar
Then a well struck free kick from Rangers captain James Hart was saved by the keepers stretching dive
Phil Ballingall also had several attempts on goal, as did Hamish Wilde
The Papamoa team then did everything to hold the ball and scrambled well to play out the clock
The final score ended up being 0-1 to Papamoa
It was a very even affair and the game could have gone either way
Rangers Player of the Day was Shane Baillie
The Rangers are on the road next week with a trip away at Taupo
