Taupo Lakers 0, Plains Rangers men 0
Plains Rangers traveled to top of the league Taupo looking to continue with their recent good form.
Both sides kept possession well but it was the Rangers who had an early chance to go ahead after a well struck corner from young Kaleb Muggeridge was dropped by the keeper and an easy tap in attempt was wasted when the keeper got to the loose ball first.
Both teams defended well and most of the chances on goal were kept to long range shots, as the tight marking at the back made any attacking plays through the middle of the field infrequent.
There were two yellow cards given out in the first half, one to each team.
The second half continued as an even affair but with Rangers holding the majority of the possession.
A Hamish Wilde free kick which was pushed over the bar was the closest scoring opportunity in the second half.
Taupo didn't change their tactics of shooting from out wide until later in the game, as Christian Wetting in goal was stopping any long shots from them with ease.
The Rangers veterans of Jason Pullar, Aaron Muggeridge and Chris Butler were subbed on late in the game to steady the boat.
Ian Gray had another good performance in defence but the new signing Jon Barnes, in his debut game put on a great display of skill and speed and was the Rangers Player Of The Day.
Plains Rangers are sitting in second place in the competition and host Otumoetai at Edgecumbe Domain this Saturday 2.30pm kick off.
