Te Puke v Plains Rangers women
Plains Rangers got back to winning ways on Saturday when they hosted fellow cellar dwellers Te Puke in an entertaining BOP division one clash.
Rangers started off playing some crisp football, passing the ball around nicely. After a couple of close attempts, Rangers finally got one in the net after twenty minutes, Jason Pullar scoring with a header from a Ronan Mitchell corner. Ten minutes later another corner saw Ben Burr volley the ball in and Rangers looked like they must be cruising. However, the visitors kept on plugging away and shortly before the break they got one back. Rangers bounced straight back, Jordan Ogilvy went down the left wing and pulled the ball across for Jaiden Ibbetson to score. At half time Rangers led 3 – 1.
Soon after the restart, Te Puke capitalised on some sloppy defending to score, making the home fans nervous. Fifteen minutes into the half an Ibbetson strike from distance restored the two goal difference. Te Puke got another goal back with fifteen minutes to go, following up from a free kick. Ibbetson sealed the win with his third goal late in the game to make the final score Rangers 5, Te Puke 3.
This was a good result for Rangers, with three players suspended and captain Petir Gray unavailable. Left back Sam Christieson was named player of the day, with centre midfielders Husnul Gray and Jason Pullar also in top form. Young Kaleb Muggeridge also made an impact when he came on at left half, with some good runs and link up play. Rangers will have to wait to find out who their next opponents are as the league has catch up games before a proposed split league.
