Plains Rangers FC

14 & 15 June 2014
Plains Rangers men 0, Old Blues 1
Rotorua White 1, Plains Rangers women 0

It was a case of the women's game mirroring the men's for Plains Rangers last weekend.
On Saturday Plains Rangers men were at home to the third placed Tauranga Old Blues team in BOP division two. Rangers were missing a couple of players from their regular line-up, but they were determined to play their usual brand of good football. However, maybe it was the aftermath of watching sublime football from the World Cup, but both teams started out without a lot of intensity. Rangers held a good solid defensive shape but struggled to build a lot going forward. Keeper Christian Wetting only had long range shots to deal with, while Rangers' best chance came with a well hit strike from stand-in attacker Matthew Orr-McKeown. A scoreless first half looked like turning into the final result until late in the second half when a good move down the wing set up a well taken goal for Old Blues. Rangers threw everything at their visitors for the final ten minutes, but to no avail. Old Blues 1 Plains Rangers 0.
Player-coach Wetting named Tiemen Corporaal player of the day after his excellent performance in the centre midfield. Tiemen Corporaal senior also had an impressive game, holding the ball up well up front.
Rangers' men have no game this Saturday as they have a bye in the Baysportsmed Bowl competition.
On Sunday, Alignments Plus Plains Rangers women travelled to play Rotorua United White in the Federation Plate. It was a very competitive game with the home team scoring a rather fortunate goal to take the game 1 – 0. Gillian Green and Jenny McIntyre were jointly named players of the day for some fine work down the wings for Rangers.
This Sunday Rangers women are away to Papamoa.
