One local derby was the main focus for Plains Rangers
this weekend.
Rangers men had the weekend off after Whakatane ran short of players and
postponed their scheduled Bay One clash.
However, Gary Fowell Builders Plains Rangers women also had a local fixture,
as they were at home to Kawerau Town. The game started evenly, with both
teams playing with lots of determination. Rangers had plenty of territory
to begin with, but Kawerau came into the game and opened the scoring after
twenty minutes. They doubled their lead ten minutes later with a great
header from a corner.
When Kawerau scored right after the start of the second half it seemed
that Rangers might have been looking at a beating, but a commited display
in defence kept the visitors to only one more goal. Plains Rangers 0,
Kawerau Town 4.
The nonstop work of Holly Davis had her named player of the day for Rangers.
Others to impress included defenders Mary Collier, Kine Boee and Julie
Reihana.
This weekend Rangers men travel to play Ngongotaha, while Rangers women
have a bye.
