Despite being low on numbers, Gary Fowell Builders Plains
Rangers managed to keep their unbeaten run going in a wind affected game
away at Old Blues.
Rangers played good football in patches in the first half, with the wind
partly behind them. Rangers forced a series of corners and John Stephen
went close with a couple of headers. Late in the half, a massive clearance
from Rangers keeper Christian Wetting was headed on, but wide of the Old
Blues goal by Ben McPherson, with the home team keeper beaten.
In the second half Old Blues had a good spell for the first twenty minutes.
They created some good moves and went close when a diving header went
over the top. Wetting earned himself player of the day with a double save
after twenty minutes. He parried a close range shot and then saved the
follow up shot. Rangers were always a threat on the counter attack, but
the game ended in a 0 - 0 draw. The draw means Rangers will finish BOP
division one in a creditable third place.
Apart from Wetting, other players to stand out in a determined performance
were right back Kirk Bain, centre back John Stephen and midfielder Andy
Brabant.
This Saturday Rangers have their last league game. They are at home to
Taupo. Kick off at Awakeri will be at 2.30pm.
